Chris O.
I finally got out and played a round this morning. The front nine was a little rough to me. Actually I was rough to it. Just couldn't get things going. I got things turned around on the back nine and ended with a 41-36 for a +5 77. My ball striking hasn't been as good lately but the short game is dialed in, which I'll take any day of the week. Here are some pics. StrokerAce
Played in my US Amateur qualifier yesterday. Was one of the worst all around performances I have had in competition. I did not drive the ball well, did not hit green and when I did I 3 putted. (77-80) I did play with 2 very nice and good college golfers (they finished 1-2 and are moving on). I know after yesterday that this is a young mans game. In no way was the course too big, but the distance these kids hit the ball is unreal. I knew I was in for good day of watching golf when on the 4th hole of our morning round I hit one 325 and was 30 yards behind them. Just the speed that they carry thru impact is awesome. But back to my poor day. It wasn't the balls or the clubs it was just the lack of a consistent swing, and no touch putting. My best shot was a 23* Ft Worth Hi on the par 3 7th. Hit it into the wind (220 yds) to 10 ft and made the putt. My wife caddied for me and asked on our 27th hole "why do you do this to yourself". I asked her what she meant by it. I had just hit a wedge from 104 yds in the fairway (425 yard hole) that had no chance of holding the green. The ball hit 10 ft short of the flag and went over. (All of us in the group went over). And she replied you hit a good shot and do not get rewarded, why play in this these conditions? And my reply was I have no clue. We came to the conclusion walking the last 9 that yes I am getting older and yes I am not as fast but I love the competition. So from now on its just State Am's and State mid-ams where maybe the setups are not as tough. It was a long day and but I had fun and got to see 2 very good golfers. I also had a lot of fun with my wife. She did her very best to try and get my game and swing where it needed to be. Below are the stats and they are not good. ...a whole nother level... If I *ever* hit one 325 and shot in the seventies on the same day I would probably stop right there because I would have died and gone to 'golf heaven'... sp0rtsfan86
I've played like hot garbage last few weeks, struggling to break 90. My driver which was the most reliable club has been hit or miss especially since I started putting the xr 16 anywhere near my bag. I put 2 in houses the last time I played. I haven't hit 50 yard misses in a long time. My irons have come around recently, to the point I was actually hitting some really great approaches. Even better, my dad fixed my short game, so now I'm getting up and down. For me the big key is right now trying to put that all together. Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy mobile app OK, after walking 18 with the guys, I went back out and played another 9 holes in the evening with my wife. Needless to say that at my age, I was not only tired, but after sitting around for 2 hours (drinking a few Irish Death dark beers), I was very sore in my lower back. My wife hadn't played since Sunday and was eager to get outside. It was her typical first round of the week; i.e., not that good except that she did make an eagle on a par 4 from the fairway. It's an elevated green with a lower shelf on the back; pin was back and we couldn't see the bottom of the flagstick. I had hit a good 5i from 164. As we walked up to the green, my Snell MTB was on the back fringe; her yellow Z-Star was nowhere to be seen. She said "Where is it?" and I said "It's in the hole". It was. Somehow I managed to shoot the same score for the front nine as I did earlier... 42 (it's a par 37) MattF and JAGolfore 2 Quote “We don’t stop playing the game because we get old; we get old because we stop playing the game.”

Kor.A.Door
Played inter club match today, and played on greens that were Champions Bermuda, these were easily the most difficult and challenging greens that I have ever played, the putting green was running 14.5, and he on course greens were running at 14 according to the pro shop, these greens were like putting on a hardwood floor, if you were downhill you can forget about it, you could not stop the ball, if you had 4 feet downhill and hit it like you had a tap in you would roll 14 feet past, they were ridiculous, anyway, I hit about 4 fairways but played ok, I was 2 up on 17, managed to double, and then 18 I also managed a bogey to end the match all square, it was a tough way to go but considering I had 5 three putts, and 2 doubles the match could have easily gone the other way. Just wish I would have finished better, I need to figure out what's going on with my tee shots. fozcycle 1 Quote Lefties are always in their Right Mind

Undershooter
Made a small adjustment with yesterday on the range and it did a ton of good. Apparently I have been standing too far away from the ball. I moved up a little closer and bingo, everything was right again. Played great despite not putting my best and wishing I had 2 swings back. Hit one in the water on our par 3 8th then got up and down for bogey. Then I hit one in the water off the tee on our par 5 16th(a hole I told myself I'd never take driver off of unless the Tips were all the way back. Ended saving par there. Overall I hit it extremely well in route to a 4 under 68. Kenny B
I think the club slowed up the green speed this weekend... about two inches worth. I shot very average scores of 80 and 83, but I bet this weekend I missed 10 putts in the jaws that totaled 20 inches short. I needed some string! revkev
I love playing tournaments with the string - My college roommates and I play a game in October that includes string, mulligans, tosses and of course the dreaded call backs. Instead of handicap strokes we apportion each of these items accordingly. You can't imagine how much fun it is or how agitated my one friend gets when he hits a great shot and gets to hit it again. I use the chrome soft x ls on my league course. It has much softer softer greens than the club that I belong to. I’m on a mission to shoot my age - lifetime lowest round is 66 and I’m currently 67. Kenny B
I think the club slowed up the green speed this weekend... about two inches worth. I shot very average scores of 80 and 83, but I bet this weekend I missed 10 putts in the jaws that totaled 20 inches short. I needed some string! Well the weekend wasn't so great, but today was. I played my weekly game walking with the guys today. Best round I have ever shot at my course. All those putts I missed this weekend... that's right, I made them today. If I missed a green, I had a tap-in putt. I was +2 on the front and -1 on the back for a round of 73; I lipped out my birdie putt on #18 that would have given me an even par round. The guys were in awe, and frankly so was I. Even my mishits were good. On the par 3 #17 I thinned a 7i and ended up with a 4 foot birdie. I loved it when I entered my score, and GHIN says that my score is low and do I want to enter it? Hell yes!!! silver & black
So...... since my cataract surgery, I am hitting everything thin. I'm topping my tee shots with both driver and irons. I'm topping or skulling approach shots ,chip shots, and even putts. This is killing me!
