revkev
Which hole or holes?Sorry I didn't see this 6,9,15. All with hybrids. All where I got stuck inside. Ironically I played much better yesterday and shot 82. We played back a half set of tees (straight MGA) and the wind was from the Northeast shifting to the Northwest mid round when the sea breeze kicked in. I easily had the low round in my group that had a 14,10 and 6 in it besides myself. MGA meant the bridge side, over the entire hazard, on 16. I don't know if you've had that experience, I know Foz has, it's a scary shot, way scarier than 17 at Sawgrass because it's longer and all you see are the little mangrove bushes sticking up out of the water from tee to green (in fact you can't see the front of the putting surface). Still hit the ball in the water on 6. That's about the 4th round in a row. That hole has my number lately. We had a guy drive it on the front of the green on 13. Not a smart play but extremely impressive. Peanut05
I played for the first time since we had our baby Saturday morning. I hit the ball fairly well, and my irons were better than that had been before, but my chipping has gone to crap. I was still able to roll in an eagle and 5 birdies over 27 holes to make about $40 from the group I was playing with, so I won't complain about the chipping too much. Popular Post chisag
... Been struggling with my rhythm lately and finally found it yesterday at Papago but still had 4 bogies and 4 birdies in windy conditions on an unfamiliar course. Greens were very fast and a few times I was just in the wrong spot. ... BUT, playing as a single from Chicago I was paired up with 3 guys on the tee and the first to introduce himself was Desmond Clark!!! What are the chances of that?!? As a huge Bears fan it was a real treat to play golf with him. Pretty much a beginner he has a ton of potential and we talked golf and Bears and I finally got the inside scoop on Jay Cutler, one of my favorites since watching him play at Vandy. (Don't ask as I don't kiss and tell but he liked playing with Jay). The irony is it turned out The Dark Knight is Desmond's favorite movie and he was excited to play with someone that was in the film LOL. He had lots of questions about Chris Nolan, Christian Bale and Heath Ledger. And for a pretty big football star, he was one of the nicest guys I have ever been paired up with. I started off kinda rough par-bogie-par-bogie-par before making a birdie on a 218 par 3 and they were carding doubles/triples/worse and Desmond said "I know you had par or bogie Sam so which is it?" of course meant as a compliment and when I said "birdie" he walked over to me, shook my hand and apologized for missing my score and said there is no excuse for that and promised it wouldn't happen again. Charli
Soooo had a decent day tee to green. But had 9 3putts... yes 9 ended with a 92. It was amazingly bad I mean I was on in two about 15ft away for an eagle. I 3 putted!!! I do think I know the reason and let me know if I'm crazy. 2/3 weeks ago I noticed the weight in my grip fell out. So I replaced it with a 50g weight went out and did that. I thought I just lost it and I'm starting to Think it's been that way for awhile and I just got used To it. Would weight at the end really affect my stroke that much? Never even touched my Callaway. Somehow ledt my old Ping Eye 2 8 iron on 11 and backtracked til I came across a guy who found it on 11..hmm...odd as Im very careful. StrokerAce
First round since my prostate surgery and subsequent trip back to the hospital for blood clots. I didn't expect much from myself, and I delivered on those expectations. Absolutely perfect day today, bluebird skies, short sleeve temperatures, so I can't blame the weather. +12, but this course plays so easy it's really more like +15. But it was so nice to be out there, I really didn't mind. Positives: - I somehow played the entire round with the same ball. That's a minor miracle considering some of the shots I hit today. - The Cleveland CBX wedge should be banned. Playing with it is like cheating. It's that good. - I hit several really good iron shots. Unfortunately they were after I dropped a second ball to get in a little more game situation practice. - I love my new Versaluxe shoes. Welcome back looper! Sounds like you had some great shots. chisag
... In Phoenix and played 20 rounds in 20 days but it came to an end today. The Mrs is coming in tomorrow and we have appointments and family to spend time with so only 2 more round in the next 7 days. I am not complaining as it was a great run and my friends back in Chicago would LOVE 2 rounds in the next 7 days.... Final round played with a "kid" in his late 20's that consistently drove it over 300 yds. On a 289yd hole he hit a 3 wood in the bunker over the back of the green!?! It was very humbling but a real joy to watch as it was a nice swing just very, very fast. I hit a 289yd drive on 18 and he literally popped one up to only 271. HardcoreLooper
And that low punch shot comes in handy doesn't it? Whats your favorite club to do a punch shot with? It really depends. A few courses near me have stands of nice, well spaced trees that let you really hit a shot out of them. I'll hit the shortest club I can hit that will stay under the tree limbs. One problem with cavity back clubs is that they're built to fly high, so you do need to be conscious of taking enough club to keep the ball low. The trees at my course are not spaced well, and the grounds crew blows leaves out of the fairway and rough into them. So if you can find your ball (good luck), you're going to get one of those lies where you go right underneath the ball. If I have any room to get the ball off the ground, I'll use a hybrid. It tends to float through the crap better than an iron. Most of the time, you can't get the ball more than 2" off the ground, so I wind up punching out with a putter. Nothing's going to keep the ball lower. PING Apologist #9
Wet and sandy for me today. The War Department (aka: The Wife), gave me a late kitchen pass that I immediately took advantage of and bolted out to cram in 18 before it got too dark. We were successful pulling down 18, but I lost 2 in the water and had at least 5 bunker shots. The wet ones were not fun of course, but I was very happy with my ability to get off the beaches-Marines seem to always find a way to do that... Good times and the twosome I was fitted in with were fun. If the weather holds tomorrow, might hit it again. Cheers Spies! 00sportsman
Played one of those rounds today that seemed to be a scramble basically from start to finish. The only shot I remember thinking was what I really wanted was my drive on 18. I cut a corner, carried about 250 and landed it on the green. Everything else seemed to be off. I had a few GIR with 3 putts, and several one putt pars. I was really surprised to add it up and only see a 90. If you had asked before I did the math, I would have said 110. I guess all the scrambling made it seem worse than it was.
