    How'd you play?

Started out +5 after 5 with a double and said nah, this just isn’t happening. Played the next 13 -1 and left a few out there. Off the tee was phenomenal today. This LAGolf DJ shaft is butter. Hit some absolute bombs with it today. IMG_0592.MOV

  2. Now that this outing is right around the corner I am sensing the fear in everyone. First the excuses started piling up about their golf games not being up to par! Now I am seeing the drinking comments. Ohhh I'm usually the designated driver. I only have one or two beers. I don't normally drink at all. Are you a bunch of golfers or a bunch of pansies? No wonder I always wind up in a pond. I'll have you know I already left for this outing I should get there in time. It takes a while on my bike. I tried to pack my favorite beverage but I couldn't figure out how to get it there. So I plan on mooching. But don't worry. With my body size I won't take to much away from you. You never have to worry about me either, I can't fall down. I just might roll a little crooked, thats all !

  4. Score wise it was a crappy day - the front wasn't a too bad 46 but the back.......well let's just say that the 1 on the par 3 as in Hole In One really helped. This is not only my first but also the first I've ever seen. The best part was that the other three guys I was playing with started shouting just before it hit the hole so I got to see it roll in.

  5. slight Thread jack—bit hey I started it..so it’s allowed One of the first times I had a caddie for a round. I was still playing my Titliest Tour Models. When he met me on the range and started going through my bag. He commented on them and mentioned this was going to be a fun round. I quickly reset his expectations by saying. Watch a few shots and you may have time to go to the caddie master and request a change. He laughed and said we’d have a good time. Fortunately I played decently they day and he said I did the clubs proud He really really loved them. Told me I better never sell them without checking with him first. The cool part. I was back at WS a year later and going to play the next day. But had gone out to just sit on the benches overloookikg 18 to have a beer. No clubs nothing near me. Chris happened to be walking by on his way to 10 with his group. I didn’t even notice him and out of nowhere I heard “Still have those Titleist I hope” I liked and was shocked. I told him I sure did and was playing tomorrow. He asked what time and I told him. He said he was going to tell his boss to put him on my bag. They felt really cool. The next day didn’t go as great as the first time. But he still loved handing me those irons. I can tell you they were never so clean as they were after each of his rounds. sadly when I went back next year he had moved out to Bandon

  9. I'm so jealous I can barely breathe. But no, you all go and have the time of your lives. Don't think twice about poor old Samsonite, sitting alone in his shack, swatting bugs because there's no AC and no windows (WHO CAN AFFORD WINDOWS?!?), trying to get online (via 28.8 dial-up) to see if any of you swells has posted a picture (which will take 45 minutes to download) or an update. But really, don't worry about me. I'm doing great. Also, that Jim Beam looks delightful.

  10. My chipping was legendary at my previous club. One of my pards gave me the nickname "Master Chip" as a play on my Navy rank of Master Chief. And, for the record, it was not for stellar chipping, but rather a sarcastic nick name due to my poor chipping.

  11. Swung by DSG today after work and picked up a brick of MaxFli Tour's. They're still on sale and it's too good of a deal to pass up for such a great ball. Hopefully the weather will settle down soon from high humidity/heat or storms and I can get out and play them.

  12. The hottest category for golf clubs in 2022 has to be Distance Irons and especially Players Distance Irons. Cobra is addressing both categories with their new Forged Tec and Forged Tec X irons. There has never been more choices when it comes to irons so let’s take a look at these two offerings from Cobra and see which one or maybe a combination of both, is a fit for your game. The size of an iron head is pretty difficult to get juuuuust perfect for everyone as some prefer slightly smaller, some slightly larger, some a thin top line and others a more confidence inspiring thicker top line. I think Cobra has addressed this brilliantly with a slightly smaller head and thinner top line in the Forged Tec and slightly larger head with a little thicker top line in the Forged Tec X. Of course some like a little of both with a little more substance and forgiveness in their long irons and those players may find a Forged Tec and Tec X long iron combo might be worth looking into. One thing that makes the Forged Tec unique when it comes to a hollow head Players Iron is a true 5 step forging process. Two rough forgings and three precision forgings using a soft 1025 carbon steel body, the FT’s are the softest feeling hollow headed, foam filled irons I have hit. In fact if I did not know they were hollow the first time I hit them, I would probably have thought they were a solid carbon steel CB head. That is saying something. The forged PWRSHELL face is constructed of a Maraging Steel that is thinner, lighter and with more flex it results in a slight speed increase over the previous version. The X model is constructed with 431 steel and utilizes ST-118 in it’s forged PWRSHELL face and while it is not as dense and soft feeling as the Forged Tec, the X still produces a very nice feel. The other big difference between these two irons is the FT has 20 gms of tungsten place low in the head and the X has 60gms of tungsten placed even lower. The difference produces a little higher ball flight and more forgiveness in the X model. My first shot with the Forged Tec X was 199yds to a par 5 with a front pin. For reference my MIM 4 iron is my 195 yd club and the FT-X 4 iron ended up on the back fringe. Longer? Check. I think Cobra’s Jessi Stone, Design Engineer Irons, sums up what we all look for in an iron: Performance, Feel, Shape and Cosmetics. Jessi went on to say “We realized in the Players Distance category there wasn’t really an iron that delivered that true better players shaping and feel”. Taking visual cues from Rickie Fowlers irons Coba incorporated a thinner top line desired by better players and reduced the offset for a cleaner look at address. One of the major differences from the last version, and any other competing iron I am aware of, the Forged Tecs utilize a thinner softer foam in the longer irons for distance and feel while the shorter irons use a heavier polymer material for a better sound, feel and accuracy utilizing the best of both worlds. I always find technology interesting but playability and forgiveness is where the FT and FT-X irons really got my attention. What most are looking for in a Players Distance and Distance iron is a little more distance without being silly long because that can create gaps in yardage. I find the FT’s a few yards longer than the MIM irons I have been playing, while the FT-X adds a few more yards compared to the FT’s. Did I mention these are forgiving? Shots hit a little off center do not have that melt in the face feel but still feel pretty darned good and produce shots that only loose a little in distance and direction. Many players prefer an iron that gives them that kind of feedback while still producing a good shot. More severe mishits suffer more but still produce reasonably playable shots, especially the FT-X that I would easily put in the Game Improvement category. And as mentioned earlier those looking for additional forgiveness in their long irons might be interested in a combo set of FT short/mid irons and FT-X long irons. Lofts are about average for a Players Distance Iron with a 45* pw decreasing by 5* through the short irons and the 4.5*, 3.5*, 3* and finally 2* between the 5 and 4 irons. from the 6 to the 4 iron. With a 44* pitching wedge some may want to order the 49* gap wedge unless they already play a wedge in that slot. The irons come stock with KBS $-Taper Lite steel shafts in the Tec and KBS Tour Lite in the Tec X. You can also order either set with the excellent KBS TGi graphite shafts for a $100 up charge. Considering the TGi’s retail for $65 each that is a $355 savings. Recoil 95's are also available at the same price. As usual with Cobra, you can custom order the Forged Tec and Tec X irons with a myriad of available custom steel and graphite shafts. The Forged Tec’s and the additional distance with more forgiveness than my normal irons are just a joy to play. Originally I was a little worried about not creating enough spin, something I have experienced with other Players Distance irons but I had no problem holding the hard fast desert greens in Phoenix. I also played the FT-X 4 iron and found it very forging and long, a recipe for success from the fairway and off the tee it as close to a Driving Iron as I have played. Cobra has done an amazing job with these two irons and high, mid and low index player looking for a Players Distance or a Distance Iron that provides a little more forgiveness while also giving you consistent distance and trajectory, should put the Forged Tec and Forged Tec-X at the top of their must demo list. More info and pictures of both irons are available on the Cobra website: https://www.cobragolf.com/forged-tec-irons https://www.cobragolf.com/forged-tec-x-irons

  13. Took @chisag's advice today at the range. I warmed up with wedges where I promptly shanked the first five balls until I figured out I wasn't rotating on the short shots. After that I hit a few more iron shots to warm up, then started the drill. Since I was hitting of a mat, I could only set up about five balls at a time to hit, step, hit, step, etc... It was eye opening to see how well I hit those shots without setting up like normal. I went through several rounds doing that and I'll say I was pretty gassed after a while. I finished the day doing the Monte wait drill I saw on Instagram. https://www.instagram.com/reel/CgXUq2OJoty/?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y= When I did hit normal shots, it wasn't quite as good as the last time I got out. I'm going to chalk it up to not being able to get out last week and hit. I was staying back too much on my follow through which is frustrating because I can take practice swings and it's so good. It's all a work in progress and I'm excited to see where my game goes from here.

  14. 44/51 for a 95. That comes with also having and 11. Other than that 3 doubles the rest par or bogey. Hit some good shots, some not so good. Great time with friends. Got very fatigued by the end only my 3rd 18 of the year. This was hilly and I walked and our 630 tee time was 75* out and finished at 88* almost dove the green on 9. Did a lot of scrambling and decent lag putting.

  17. I am going to get on the Soap Box early this morning---- And Mods I am going to apologize for what I am going to state in advance---- It may be too steamy and if you guys feel it is then you will not offend me if you remove it. I will try to be as tactful as I can and tip toe through the tulips------- Last night watching Golf Central they had Hymie at Bedminster. I told the wife I was surprised since the GC and NBC are tools of the PGAT. IMHO it turned bad quickly. They were broadcasting survivors of 911 protesting and making speeches. Now do not get me wrong I symphatize with those folks. I as a Volunteer Fireman was at ground Zero some 24 hours later and stayed up there for nearly two weeks helping out. So I can first hand relate to the tragedy. I do not appreciate them hashing up bad memories for those folks and parading them in front of the world on World Wide TV. And I know 99% of it was stoked on by the PGAT and their puppets at the GC. It was also sparked on by the national press who does not like the owner of Bedminster. I was steamed and cut it off. Further more I am voicing my displeasure on FB and to the sponsor companies involved. No reason at all to rehash the tragedy for those survivors in front of the whole world. Damn right I am offended!!! I do not think the PGAT realizes they will aeilanate a lot of folks over this me included. Because of this the PGAT is right up there on my Schmidt list along with the USGA---- I may still watch GC some and the PGAT because I love golf period and politics be dammed.

Oh the difference a day makes… yesterday, I only played the back9, and had no less than 6 shanks… I mean it was ugly. But today, I pounded drives all day, and never shanked a ball. And scored pretty well…

Got out this morning for an early morning 9 with Bacon Boyz! Took it easy just dropping the ball 30-50 yards from green then chip and putt for 1st 5 holes. Last 4 stretched it out a bit up to 75 yards. Everything was good, no knee issues except walking downhill was a bit uncomfortable. Great to get out and solve the Worlds problems with the Boyz at breakfast! Going out again Tuesday.

  24. I came here to share mine...the super yesterday had a sick sense of humor (there was a scramble earlier in the day and all the pins were set 3 paces off the greens...it was sadistic). 10 is a 380 yard par 4 with a narrow landing area and a creek that funnels around 270 off the tee. I hit a great tee shot that left me 57 yards (downwind and firm ground) from the left rough to a right pin that carries a front right trap and a pin that was set on a peninsula...That pin was 4 paces off the front and I was able to land a 60* 4 feet away and make 3.

Yeah, planning to check out the Corvette show in a few weeks, although I hate the “after effect” of me going to car shows…it’s always hard for me to not daydream about a sports car as a third vehicle, which is not something I’m going to do until I retire from the Air Force and am done moving.

+3 75 today with two doubles and 2 birdies, 2 doubles and an eagle. Eagle came on 18. Par 5 and an okay drives left me 270 to the center of the green. Ripped a beautiful 3 wood and it lipped out! Left me 18 inches for an eagle!

Remember your spot and put it in the hole." My confidence skyrocketed because I kept a positive frame of mind. Your thoughts run your mind, speak kindly to yourself with purpose.

Slow progress. The plague kept me out of society for about 2 weeks, so it's been a bit of a hit to the routine. Overall it's still progress. Down 60 pounds since September when I started this program. I definitely need to get some new clothes because of these changes. With today's weigh in, I'm currently only 2 pounds away from the lowest I can remember being, and that was when I was 22 in college playing multiple sports.

  42. And let's not forget that Norman has been a proponent and salesman for a new tour for some time now... which has drawn some angst and controversy since inception (PGL). Greg was just able to find the financial backing needed to get it off the ground. What if any changes in equipment these guys make will be interesting. Some may simply choose to use the product as a poke in the eye for dropping their contracts. Does anyone know if TM dropped DJ and, if not, why?

  43. So I have to tip my cap to the folks at PGASS and (believe it or nor) FedEx. The order I placed Wednesday afternoon in my local store was shipped and delivered from Orlando to my door by this afternoon. That’s outstanding! I couldn’t resist taking the SmartSole chipper out to the green by my house, and I was really surprised by it. I was using it from 30 yards out all the way up to the edge of the green and it was incredibly accurate directionally. I thought my distance control wasn’t too good at first, but my neighbor was watching me and he was really impressed. So, as usual, I’m my harshest critic. The course was still being played though, so I wasn’t out there very long, maybe 30-40 balls? I wasn’t planning on putting it in play tomorrow, but now I’m going to go back out there in an hour or so and not only use the C again, but try to get an idea of how the 56* CBX2 plays both out of the sand and gapping wise after my DW. If there aren’t any major issues, it will be show time for both of them come morning! @ole gray where has Cleveland Golf been all my life?
