  2. Good morning all! coffee is hot, sun is rising, and temps are supposed to get into the mid 80s today!! I might have to make up an excuse to take the convertible out on lunch. also, I already feel 1000 times better than yesterday and the kids appear to be better too. Cobra test is finally public, Edel orders will be going in this evening, Paradym Irons are starting to get delivered… exciting times on the forum!

  4. Good Morning all! Sun is shining bright, it's already almost 60 degrees and another beautiful day is on tap. I am once again at work all day, so chances of golf are slim unless I can sneak up to the range this evening. Looking forward to the community call this afternoon and keeping my fingers crossed I don't get de-railed by a work meeting. At this point, the only thing that would keep me from the call is if I could leave work early to take my son up to the golf course. Speaking of him, he developed a rash last night which we think is related to his amoxicillin prescription for Strep throat. We are on the last day of the prescription, so surprised it didn't develop sooner, but he seems to be feeling fine so we sent him to school. Talked to a co-worked and the exact same thing happened to their son, along the same timeline, so we aren't too worried about it as long as no other symptoms pop up. Have the day off tomorrow as my mom is getting a bone marrow biopsy and cannot watch our youngest in the morning. She's had a bit of a cancer scare, but so far, all tests have come back negative. This is the last one the doc has planned (for now), so hoping that it will come back negative as well. Golf is on the schedule for tomorrow morning and hopefully the afternoon after I pick my son up from school, and then I'm hoping to get 18 in on Saturday morning as weather is going to take a turn back to cool, wet, Wisconsin spring weather next week, so not much chance for golf. Hope everyone has a great day!

  5. I think this thread has become the proverbial “water cooler” for the forum. Everyone stops by with their morning cup and a quick chat to start their day.

  6. Update missed the next two fairways and made bogey on both. Sand saves on both holes. Also decided to hail during those two holes. Cleared and made back to back pars. Golf is dumb. Need coffee.

  7. Members league yesterday, and it was my first round in a week due to my back acting up again. Ironically I started off really well with 6 pars in my first 7 holes (the one “other” was a sloppy triple on a par 4). I knew it wouldn’t last though as my back was getting tighter with every hole, and sure enough it didn’t. I stumbled in with 42-46-88 which was good enough to take second in the low net portion. The only reason I cashed was having only 12 A players due to a combination of people still being away for Easter, and a lot of the winter residents having gone back up north. I had my first bad day with my new irons in the 5 weeks I’ve had them and I’m not sure how much of that is due to my inability to put a decent swing on the ball because of my back and how much was simply my lack of talent. In a perfect world I’d have been at the range today or tomorrow figuring that out, but I really need to feel a bit looser before I can start banging a bucket of balls. It’s frustrating this issue keeps popping up especially when I’ve been playing well, but it things could be a lot worse I guess. Next up is my Saturday money game. Fingers crossed things will improve.

  8. Thank you @BKervin! We are playing TPC Tampa Bay today. Just watched a couple overview videos. Tee shot accuracy will dictate an awful lot of outcomes! The course looks like a ton of fun. Will report in later. Also, here’s my current situation. Think I’m excited? Doing some ball testing. Planning to avoid the negative mental energy today. Sending best wishes for your son and mom @Jnoble89

  9. Good morning everyone and its here first round of the year today at 1!!! So excited and ready to get the season started. Gotta find some form before the Edels show up. Enjoying this really warm weather the next couple of days. Love seeing all the action on the forum lately even if I can't seem to keep up. Hope everyone has a great Thursday! Had to do the Bs headcover with the season they are having, maybe I can catch some of those good vibes

  10. Hoping the rash on lil-Jnoble clears up with out getting itch on him! Also hope everything goes smoothly with your Mom. Those scares are never easy and are a constant reminder that our time is precious. Hope she has a quick recovery. My understanding is that anything bone marrow related can be quite painful.

  12. Enjoying my morning coffee, listening to the Rick Shiels Golf Show podcast (he is sharing his experience of playing Augusta on Monday) and browsing this thread. We’ve been blessed with beautiful spring weather in Central NY. I will be playing 9 holes later this morning.

  14. Good morning on a too early to be summer but it feels like it WNY Thursday with hot coffee in the mug and computers going online for work and, um, something else anyway the good news includes golf yesterday at my old course that was perfectly fine for the first real beginning of season 9 holes not losing @Yellow Ball's whiter cousin and a couple pars that usually evade me, some brilliant shots that went where they were intended to go, and confidence that this is a good year for golf hope golf is a part of your day!

  15. Good morning all! I hope each of you have a good start to your day. It's a nice, cool morning here in Tennessee and I'm enjoying sipping my coffee after arriving safely at work. I'm looking forward to seeing what the day has to offer and to those of you playing or practicing today, I wish you the best.

    How'd you play?

This game.. two 74’s and I’m on top of it all, then bam, and 82 today and that’s after crushing every drive dead center. Suddenly I’m absolutely inept…

    The Good Morning Thread

Good morning all! Just getting ready for another 18 with a 10 AM tee time. Hope you all are able to get out today as well! Only 3 more rounds in Pawleys Island before we head back to NW Pennsylvania. Good news is our course is open at home. Might need to bust out long pants again though! Keep 'em straight and when you can't - at least keep 'em out of trouble!

  18. GM, got a late start just having coffee & bagel. We had a few errands to run and The Boss wanted to get to them early. Everyone have a great day! I’m going to try and get to the Forum call this afternoon, all depends when we get home.

  19. Beautiful sunny morning. Doing my morning Work duties and catching up on the overnight forum topics. The good thing about Thursday is the golf coverage is on so I can also watch some golf. Charging up the shotscope and wireless earbuds for league match and forum call this evening. Feeling good on how my game has been prigressing over the past couple of weeks so I am ready to play and hopefully the team can get our first win of the season.

  20. Good Morning Folks, Happy to be +12. Not much on plate as far as golf goes. Baseball season is trying to get started but the rain keeps it from really taking off. That said a double header tonight, tomorrow and a single on Sat. Hoping I can get some swings in after and on Sunday. I don’t want to speed up time as it goes by way to fast, but come on May. I made my schedule full of golf and work. Have great day folks.

  21. Gooood morning all! Sipping on some joe before heading into work. A nice 53* out, they said it might get up to 90 today before starting to get back to normal temps for the weekend. The grass is sure to really start popping. Have a great day everyone!

    How'd you play?

Technically second round of the year but first one in decent conditions where grass was firm and well cut, greens not so much but not terrible either. 2 pars, 3 singles, 2 doubles and a triple. Some really nice hits and mostly long straight shots without a single slice, which in itself is remarkable - and so I have! Played same ball entire round so under clear sunny skies without a jacket, will call this a good start to the 2023 season.

    Bump and run

The number of times someone actually needs to hit a flop shot is very low. The bump and run is an easy shot to control because you treat it almost like putt. Is what most high handicaps should use for short game. Learning to hit different shots around the green is a good skill to develop but should be done on the practice green to learn it. Using a short, medium and longer swing with slow, medium and fast speeds give a golfer a wide section of shots that are high percentage

    How'd you play?

I decided to regrip my 3 wood and only used it on one hole and it was a very nice shot, maybe just because it’s the first go so hopefully this dynamic will continue maybe it’ll do out of the rough as it’s a small headed mizuno widex ll with ladies flex shaft,

    How'd you play?

Just beautiful today. Not a cloud in the sky, 80* which for mid MI is decent this time of year. Walked 9 holes, still a bit muddy but did OK. Shot 42 from whites, got chased by a pair of nesting geese, and I have gained a whole new level of respect and appreciation for those who routinely play in windy environments. 35-40 mph gusts and 25-30 sustained all afternoon. This isn't easy. Heck just trying to walk into it is a struggle. Beautiful day for sure.

  28. Happy hot summer-ish morning, Morning Thread people. Brewing a giant pot of coffee. Clubs are clean and organized. Getting out at 2:20pm at Shark River GC. This place always breaks me. +22 and +23 the last 2 full rounds I got in here. Going to try better course management today. Sitting down with the scorecard and seeing where the lost strokes were for those rounds. Going to go into the round with a handful of notes.

  29. Thanks, Bryan. Yeah, I don't think the appointment tomorrow will be any too enjoyable. Thankfully, my dad was able to take the day off of work so that he can be at home with her afterwards. We've been very fortunate in my family with the big C word. My dad was diagnosed and beat prostate cancer, only to be diagnosed with a form of Leukemia almost a year to the date after his prostate cancer diagnosis. He's been in remission for 4 years and has almost zero signs of the CML in his bloodstream, but is on a medication for the rest of his life to make sure it stays that way. Just hoping that this final test comes back negative for my mom and then we can breathe a sigh of relief. Thank you, @IndyBonzo. I appreciate it! Thank you @tdroma98, I appreciate it!

Hopefully you players will have nothing but F&Gs - hoping to be able to get out and try some more of my Rahm "driver education" today- Things are kinda hectic at work- as I'm sure it is elsewhere but (as always- yep you guessed it) we got this

  37. Both of these have me laughing and I've never heard the screen door analogy, I'm going to have to use both of those on the course. @MDGolfHacker, I'm happy to hear you got down to see your brother. Time with family is precious and I hope you enjoy each other's company.

  38. ... I may be 70 but I will always be young at heart so I needed to upgrade my wardrobe to reflect that. Slowly getting rid of my FootJoy Large shirts (giving them to my waist challenged playing pard) and replacing them with Medium modern shirts. Given away 10 and bought 10 so far. Coming from the Freddie big baggy shirt era that hang almost to my knees, it is too hot to tuck in shirts for 1/2 of the year here (we set a record high of 99* Monday) and I needed some modern shorter length shirts that are designed to leave untucked. A slimmer fit to match my physique too. For obvious reasons I couldn't pass up the Bermies Cactus shirt and the hippie in me loves that they are recycled:

  40. Way easier said than done, with out first I think we went to the doctors like 5 times in the first 6 months. With parents it feels like it comes out of no where, they are older so you feel they can take care of themselves and will always be ok, but as always time wins out and then the worry comes.
    8 points
  41. Thanks, @ejgaudette. Always try to tell myself, at least with my parents, there's no point in worrying too much until there's something known to worry about. Much easier said than done, though.

  42. Yeah! That Bruins cover has to take at least a hat trick off your handicap. Also... I LOVE that they get to play the Canadiens now after breaking their point total record last game. Hopefully they take 2 more and clear their total by 3. GO BRUINS! playoff hockey starts soon... one of the few sports I could watch not knowing either of the teams. Playoff Hockey is just next level intensity. Can't be beat.

    Bump and run

I think this is all part of the art and creativity in golf. I play a variety of shots and it all depends on what the shot calls for or the risks involved. Flops may be flashy and the style type play, but bump and runs are so useful. I like them as putting is my strong part of my game and it's kinda like a longer putt.

    How'd you play?

I'm finally able to post in this thread! I was able to get out for the first time this year. Tee'd off around 6:45am and I walked 8 holes and kind of bobbed and weaved around the course to avoid the slow play as it is a local public course that gets packed. Driver felt awesome and only left me on a couple holes. Putting was non existent as the greens were bumpier than grandma's shag carpet. Short game needs some work to get it back to where it was last year before the clubs got stowed but i'll chalk that up to being early in the season. I had a lot of good shots with a few birdie opportunities and some bad shots but overall was great to finally get out on the course. shot of the "round" 191 yard par 3, 6-iron baby draw. unfortunately missed the birdie putt.
