  1. Well now, welcome to Thursday my fellow spies. Mid 70’s working its way to the high 80’s. Real early start for me today. Hope the Louisiana gentleman made the coffee again today. We might get some of that wet stuff that is all the rage in other parts of the country. Work is work, the young ones usually are pretty good at putting in the effort, the outcome can at times be less than what one would like. I maybe the “ old man “ with the experience, but I was worse than pathetic starting out. As I get older the issues of age keep manifesting themselves. Hard, dang hard keeping up with who I am, let alone keeping up with the young ones out here. Thursday is just a Friday that got ahead of itself … Take care my friends.

  2. Good morning Spies, Greetings on this “Almost Friday”. It’s overcast and damp in Central NY this morning. One cup down second will be on the course. I’m giving joggers a try in the course apparel department this morning. It may anger the “get off of my lawn” crowd but it’s a risk I’m willing to take. Wishing all a wonderful day.

  3. that is a great Far Side cartoon! fyi missing title for those who haven't seen it before = "Superman In His Later Years" ... So yeah Happy Friday Eve!! It's starting out a really, almost unseasonably, nice day here .. hmm maybe better set aside the yard work and go play some golf... Practiced some yesterday and got back a little bit of confidence in my ability to put golf club face onto golf ball, and managed to do it with different styles of ball striking implements, too. Good luck in your own golf and/or other non-work pleasure today, and good luck also to those of you doing that work thing!!

  4. Good morning all. Got back from our 6 days of golfing in Augusta it was fantastic. The weather was great, one morning we had to wait out a thunder storm before our round but every other day it was sunny and 72 to 74 degrees. The courses were in a lot better shape than when we went in March so we all agreed we are going in October from now on. We only had 9 guys this time but you couldn't ask for a nicer bunch of guys to golf with. Looks like Wednesday through Friday back home are going to be nice for golf but after that the weather looks really crappy for a while, oh well winter is knocking on the door. Play well people and have fun.

  5. Good Morning All, weather is still beautiful today, so I will try to do something golf related later. For now, coffee’s good and I’ve got miles to go before I sleep Have a great Thursday!

  6. Good morning Spies on a warm and wet Thursday morning. Later appearance here this morning for me, as we lost power at the house about 4:40AM EST and I made the hour commute into work to be able to get back online. Drove past the Electric Company vehicles repairing a pole which appeared to have been knocked over not too far from home. Glad to read that you are getting better JD, feeling good seems to make everything a little easier. Looking forward to the community call later today, and after the call ends, I will leave work and am really looking forward to golfing tomorrow in 70 degree F weather in late October here. Make your day the best it can be, and hope that something golf related may be in your plans.

  7. Good morning everyone. Coffee in hand and breakfast is done. Now it’s time to get ready to leave for work. Weather taking a hard turn with this winter storm heading this way from the west. Gonna be real cold for a few days. My VGA tournament round scheduled for this Sunday should be . Hope everyone has a great day ahead.

  8. Good morning! A slow start to my morning. Weather has been all over the place which has lead to headaches and allergies out of the wazoo. I'm hoping that today is quick and smooth. I hope you all have a theatrical Thursday! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  9. Happy Thursday morning spies! Starting the day off with mid-60s and rain today. Looks like that may actually be how the whole day goes if my weather app is accurate. I don’t really have anything too exciting going on today so……hope that all of you have a wonderful day!

  10. Good morning everyone! It's a cloudy, cool morning and I spent part of my drive to work admiring how the moon was peeking in and out of the clouds. It's community call day and I'm looking forward to seeing what discussion we have this evening. @jdparker I hope you get to feeling better soon. I hope you all have a great day!

  11. Hello there friends, good morning, the leaves are turning more and more, winter is definitely coming, some of the courses around me are already closing for the season. I really need to move somewhere I can golf year around. Two quick clips this morning just as a reminder of how much I love this game.

  12. Good morning all from a wet and rainy Thursday morning. Supposed to have rain all day today, but tomorrow is looking mild and actually quite nice for a late fall day here in Wisconsin. My wife and kids are going to my in-laws cabin this weekend, but I am staying behind to log some hours in the tree stand. While I do not say this to sound unkind, I am actually quite looking forward to the weekend as I don't get to spend a whole lot of one on one quality time with my dad anymore. Hunting is something we've shared for the better part of 20 years of my life, and it's going to be great spending time together in the woods and at my parents' house. Will probably have a few beers, fire up the grill, play some pool and hopefully knock down a couple whitetails. In other news, I received the Flightscope Mevo I won in an Instagram giveaway the other day and got out on the range with it for the first time yesterday. I've started an unofficial review thread, which you can find linked in this post or by clicking here. Follow along if you're in the marked for a lower priced launch monitor and see if it would do the trick for you!

  15. I do have to say... these wedges look really nice in person. Way better than I was expecting from the stock photos. The back has a bit of a unique shape, which I don't think translates well to photos but looks nice in real life. The manufacturing is very high quality and all of the lines and paint fill were crisp and clean. Size wise it's also smaller than I was expecting, fitting pretty nicely in between the Edel SMS Pro PW of the same loft and something like my Taylormade MG3 50* Gap Wedge. The top line, while on the thicker side, is tastefully done and doesn't seem too thick. A little rounding might help a touch to visually narrow the top a touch. Edel on the left, Edison on the right: The Koehler Sole seems like it will be right up my alley as it looks very similar in the leading edge to the Edel's PW and I've loved the turf interaction on those. From playing position the wedge shape is pleasing to my eye with what I would call a rounder shape. I have no experience with the KBS Tour 120 shaft, but a few swings in the yard suggest there won't be anything to worry about there, and the Lamkin grip provided is the same style as the one on my MG3 wedges so certainly no issues there. The color matches ferrule is also a nice premium touch. Next up will be some short game practice and some time on the practice set up with my MLM2Pro. I'm expecting this to be in the same window and yardage as my Edel PW, but time, and data, will tell if that is true!

  16. I can without question agree with the TD being a lot more forgiving then I had originally thought. Can't wait to get the new shaft and then get it really dialed in!

  18. Good Day Spies!! Nice Thursday morning - 67 degrees at 7:15am tee time. Got to walk 18 holes this morning. What nice comfortable walk. Wind picked up on the back 9, overall good walk with golf buddies, not a bad round for not playing since last Saturday. Shot 2 over. So first hole it was still kind of dusk, and first buddy gets up tees up his ball. Mind you the ball is a white ball. He hits his drive & a blue streak illuminates the sky. LOL. My buddies bought glow golf balls, different colors. The balls are white, but upon compression they light up - one was green, one red & one blue. It was really cool! LOL Back at work this afternoon, new work computer set up & ready to go. Just have to hook up home printer/scanner. Finishing up some coffee & ready to brew some espresso! Have a Great Day Everyone!! Hit'em Straight!

  20. awesome to hear the progress throughout the year! Just a thought... -1/N would be the most "fade biased" setting, not +1 on the loft which would, in theory anyway, promote more of a closed clubface. I think that's how it works anyway. + is more closed, - is more open, all other things equal.

  21. Good morning all! Rain just keeps coming around here! We are much over due though as it’s been one of the driest years I can remember. Looks like temps are going to start dropping over the weekend as well. I’m supposed to be playing in a Halloween scramble this weekend, but we’ll see if that gets called off. Hope you spies are having a great week, and almost the weekend!

  22. Good morning MGSpies from a later in the morning post than usual on a workday from a sometimes wet this Thursday morning in WNY. Nearly half the workday is past and coffee well into the second mug, looking at a tee time this afternoon to play these last warm days of 2023 regardless of precip and hoping golf is a part of your day too And thanks for reminding me to take the Community Call along with me on my round this afternoon!!!

  26. 38/37 +4 75 A look at the shot scope data says it all. Today was one of the better days I’ve had off the tee. A combination of a mini-lesson and trying out a new-for-me driver lead to this: Had 3 drives north of 275 yards but most importantly if I wasn’t in the fairway, I was just off and didn’t get blocked out all day. The Titleist irons continue to help me keep approach as my strongest asset 72% GIR is getting it done. My wedge play is another strong area in my game and the numbers bear that out. Lastly, my putting was so bad today, that the Scotty is dead to me and currently for sale in the classified section. Drive of the day: Low penetrating draw into the wind that left me with a good look in. Shot of the day: 3 hybrid that got me on the par 5 in 2. The dead-to-me Scotty then needed 3 putts to secure a par. I am well aware that it’s the archer and not the arrow with this putter, but after this hole my confidence in this club is/was shot and the split is irrevocable. I truly hope it’s soon to be new owner finds some joy with it.

  29. Introduction I recently won an Instagram giveaway that included a Flightscope Mevo. Retailing at $499 USD, the mevo provides eight data points through the utilization of 3D doppler radar technology. The eight data points the mevo provides users are ball speed, clubhead speed, carry distance, spin rate, smash factor, vertical launch, apex height and flight time. It does not provide any lateral data, so is a step behind the likes of the Garmin R10 & Rapsodo MLM2 Pro. At it's price point, that would be a nice feature to have. The mevo can be used both outdoors and indoors, and the majority of my testing and data collection will be done indoors as winter is nearing here in Wisconsin. I did get a short range session in with it today (10/25) which I will detail below. It is recommended to put a silver dot sticker on the ball you are using, especially indoors, for accurate spin data. First Impressions (19/20) The mevo comes neatly packaged in a small box with a magnetic lid closure. The unit itself is VERY small, as in it fits literally in the palm of my hand. Included in the box are the user guide and product manual, as well as a microfiber carry bag and equally small power cord. I do not see how the power cord is functional as it will not reach from my counter to the outlet, but I thankfully had a longer cord with the same charge connection. The build of this unit is very, very solid and feels premium. I was quite impressed with this. I am deducting a point in this category because the charge cord provided is just way too small to utilize. Powering on the unit is as simple as pushing a button, and once you have the FS Golf app downloaded onto your phone, it connects via bluetooth almost instantaneously. A blinking orange light signifies that the unit is charging, while a solid orange light indicates a full charge. Functionality as far as setup is concerned is outstanding. Performance (In progress, TBD) I was able to get onto the driving range today (10/25) with the Mevo and give it a test run. I was hitting standard Taylormade range balls and did not use any reflective stickers. With a recommendation from @Tom the Golf Nut, I aligned the range balls so that the lines were parallel to the ground before each shot to try and improve spin accuracy. I did not get any photos at the range (BOOOO, me), but in fairness I had my three year old in tow so was already multitasking . I hit GW, 7i and Driver, and data charts are posted below with poor strikes and outliers deleted. While most standard deviation metrics fell within what I'd consider an acceptable range, Spin with the Gap Wedge was significant. My GW is also my 110-120 yard club, and distances were coming up well short of that. They were my first swings of the day, so maybe I wasn't quite warmed up. I will do plenty more testing with wedges to see if I can get closer to normal yardages. Driver and 7i, however, seemed quite accurate. Gap Wedge Aerojet 7 Iron Aerojet Max Driver I am thoroughly looking forward to going through the rest of my bag with the Mevo and providing updates on it's performance as I go. I am also curious to see how well it will perform indoors, as this will be the first winter where I can really commit to working on my game through the offseason now that I can get some basic data collected.

  34. Despite the claims of the triple diamond, it is a very right biased head, and a ton more forgiving than claimed. I have found very large carries on right misses, even near the crown where your photos show. I'm not sure if there is a chance to swap and try but I would give that a go. The TD is a really awesome driver

  35. Final update on the X ... After what turned into a great season with it - ie. after years of struggling with driver, I really started getting off the tee nicely (most of the time ) - with the help of the forgiveness of the X head. However... Turns out that despite the flat cog adapter (lowers the lie angle -0.75°) and the settings at +1/N, plus an improving swing after lessons and practice, my misses were predominantly going left .. which is, of course, the exact opposite of where I started the season with a lot of slices right... So my "assumption" was there's still too much draw bias in the head to match my new swing. And so I started trying other drivers, including a Mizuno ST-X (with a Fujikura shaft that I found really cheap .. had to grab it! .. and now keep in the practice bag) and the regular Paradym. First trial at the range it showed promise ... and after a little more testing and changing shafts and tweaking settings - it's now in the gamer bag!! * Please note: this is -not- a knock on the utility of the X head! But rather for me and where my swing has evolved to this season I no longer need as much shot shape correction. Still recommend the X to anyone who struggles of the tee or fights a slice.

  37. I headed to the course this afternoon in beautiful sunny, 75* conditions. I played a normal ball and was able to drop a few extra balls on some holes at specific distances for some extra wedge testing. Having hit them in the backyard already I had a good idea of the swing necessary to hit those distances. I was very happy with the consistent line and dispersion of the shots. Here are some pics taken of the groupings on the greens. The turf interaction on firm dry low cut fairways is like my regular irons (Mizuno JPX 900), no extra bounce causing a dropkick into the ball. I was able to use the 57* from rough around the green without sliding under the ball. I need to get used to the carry and rollout on those shots as it is different than my current gamer, but I was hitting the shots clean, no chunks or blades. The bite was about what I see with my current gamers, with the ball ending up between 1' and 6' from the ballmark. I had no shots where the heel caught and jerked the shot left as sometimes happens with my SM9 54*. From experience that tells me the -2* lie angle is in my sweet spot. More testing tomorrow afternoon with a couple other golfers getting in some swings as well. 75 yards - 53* - 3/4 swing 60 yards - 57* - 3/4 swing 85 yards 53* low flight 3/4 swing (into the wind, probably playing 90 yards)

  38. So much for focus and not shopping. I failed. OR DID I? Projector delivers tomorrow. Impact screen delivers Friday. Already came up with an idea for side screens. Purchased black mesh truckers tarps from Harbor Freight. Modified and installed already. Now I’m sitting here designing wall and ceiling panels to open up the bay a bit and get rid of the top of the cage. I have a memory foam mattress topper that can be cut up into squares, mounted on plywood then covered with black fabric. Then mount them to the ceiling and wall above the screen in case of an errant shot. Just have to figure out the size of the panels I want to look at.

  40. I will try to make this next week. I have been off and on sleep today trying to get past this illness. Work some, sleep and repeat. Feeling ok but a little bit drained. Could be a combo of the youngest getting up at all hours of the night for the last couple weeks as well as the rain bringing in the high molds....

I traded my Callaway Maverick Pro Irons, PXG Driver, Callaway X2 Driver, 3 wood, just purged everything and started again! I think The Paradym X Driver is the best driver I've ever had.

  44. What shaft are you thinking about Jamie? I'm going to try a Ventus either Blue TR or Black this off season. The damn offseason always makes you want to tinker for no reason hahaha I was looking at trading my TD for a TSr3 but for absolutely no reason other than its different hahaha.

  45. I just recently agreed to a trade on a PX HZRDUS Smoke Blue RDX PVD I had for my TSi3 for a Ventus TR Blue 6R. Normally play a stiff shaft but couldn't pass up the opportunity. Can't wait to get my hands on it and test it out to see how it works. If it isn't stiff enough, will try to flip it for a 6S but the profile of the 6R and 6S are so close, plus TR is a stiffer handle. Just when I was getting settled on the Aerojet Max, I pick up a new shaft for the Titliest

  46. It finally rained so I headed out to the driving range in my gear. I have to say, it kept me almost completely dry during a driver/7-iron session lasting about 45minutes. After the session, I found a down spout and decided to really give the gear a workout... While it didn't keep me completely dry, I was impressed by how little water soaked through, even after putting around for another half hour. As you might expect, most of the bleed through was around the shoulders and upper back. I really doused the jacket and pants. Honestly, the small amount of bleed through was much better than I expected, and much MUCH better than other name-brand rain gear I've paid top dollar for. Impressive. The pants kept me dry and I wore them home in the car, stopping for some shopping on the way. No bleed through. Also, I was curious id the straight legs of the pants might allow rain to run off i to my shoes. Nope! Very pleased about that. The gloves...oh, the gloves were fine. They stayed grippy even when wet. However, I ordered a size smaller than my normal XL and they were still too big. During 7 iron drills, the gloves did diminish my feel, but when I hit the ball off the toe, the stinger I expected was muffled. I could still tell that I miss hit the ball, but didn't pay as big a price as I did with my other rain gloves. It was a good test of the gear under real conditions, and I came away impressed.
