GregB135
Been working on staying extended in the follow through to reduce my hook tendency. Coach has me trying to keep my legs longer/straighter at setup focusing more on hinging at the hips with only a slight bend in the knees. Yesterday's practice started with a bit of putting. Not drills, just making putts. I scattered six balls around the practice green from 9 to about 25 feet. Did that a couple of times with about a 33% make rate and no three putts so I moved on to chipping and pitching. Again, more making shots that drill work. Chipped to a 20 yard target for a while, with most finishing within 9 feet. Then I hit some random pitch shots working out to about 40 yards. I ended that on a 35 yard hole out. Moved on to full swing after that. Only had about 10 minutes to use before they closed the range. Focus was on the setup key and keeping legs straighter/longer. In the swing, I was focusing on really feeling the pressure of the handle on the middle and ring fingers of my trail hand through the ball. End result was positive. I was seeing a nice 6-8 yard draw with the miss being a mostly straight push using 7 iron. Also got in a few really well struck drivers that had similar flight - high with a bit of draw and a straight push miss. Now if that would just follow me to the course next time.... GregB135
Spent a good amount of time in the Trackman sim bay with my coach this afternoon. JerryB
Spent some time working on short chips into the net today, basically keeping the club between the four o'clock and 8 o'clock positions. I have a tendency to chunk these shots and worked on avoiding it today. After that I decided to have a little fun and took a couple dozen cuts with this club: The feedback can be interesting, to say the least! On that note, a question. I hit some seriously chunky shots sometimes and have broken a couple clubs on range mats. Because of that, I don't hit my gamers too often while practicing at home. I think I'm overthinking here, but; as a still new and inconsistent striker, will swinging a number of different clubs during net sessions cause me any issues? RichL85
I've been hitting into the net the last few days to try to work on a few things in the swing without being able to see results. If I don't see any ball flight, I find it easier to keep working on the feelings instead of getting into the habit of trying to fix the ball flight. As usual, I also found my grip was migrating away from where it should be, making some of the other changes difficult. Went to the range after work today and focused on making sure my grip was correct and the feel that I had been working on. Going to keep working on what I was doing today because I hit the ball really well. If it keeps working I'm going to have to have a discussion with my coach to possibly eliminate one of the things he wants me to start incorporating more into my swing. I'm realizing that I have success with more of a stack and tilt type of swing, and he wants me to start by shifting away from the target a bit. When I can time it, it's fine, but it introduces another variable into my swing that requires timing and I don't see any benefit from it so far. So basically, correct grip, don't shift away from target at the start of backswing, and focus on keeping my hands low through impact. Was even hitting the ball well enough to experiment with some intentional shot shaping and had some success. Not ready to bring those to the course yet, but it's nice to see some potential after a pretty miserable round over the weekend. sirchunksalot, JerryB, cksurfdude and 1 other 4 Quote Driver: PXG 0811XF Gen 4 w/ Fujikura Motore X F3 6- 3 Wood: PXG 0341XF Gen 4 w/ Mitsubishi Diamana S+ 70g Hybrids: 19 and 22 degree PXG 0317XF Gen 4 w/ Project X Evenflow Riptide 80g Irons: 5-PW PXG 0311P Gen 4 w/ KBS Tour 120 Wedges: Indi 50 FLX, 54 FLX, 58 ATK w/ KBS Wedge 610 (Official Review) Putter: Battle Ready Blackjack, 36.5”, Double Bend neck Spornia SPG-7 hitting net review 2023 Titleist White Box ProV1 review

ejgaudette
Got in another round of speed training, and really feel the speeds coming back. As mentioned in the off seasons goals thread hope to hit 116 this off season. I slacked this year and definitely lost some speed so I want to get that back and then some. Then some putting practice where I noticed, and maybe I have said the before that I tend to set up with the face open. so I took out a speed square I have lying around, aimed it at the target next to the ball as a guide for the face alignment. This worked wonders and from 12 feet I was making many more than I have previously. Did this for a bout 30 putts to get the feel then with the last 10 I removed that to try to keep the feel. It of course feels closed and I feel like I am pulling the putts, but then it would track right where I want to go. Going to take that as the set up for the next month or so to really feel more comfortable with the set up and then continue to check in during the off season practice. Right now, I am at the good being high towering straight or just falling to the right. I’m not quite to the draw stage, but I feel in time I will get there, but for the moment I’m still in astonishment of where I’ve gotten to. I’m still feeling that “good” hurt. Since my last range session, I had to take the better part of a week off and go to FL to help my daughter, and also see my 10yo grandson pitch in his first game. Came back Sunday, did a quick range session as I played Tues(yesterday). Continued to stay centered and get get good motion/extension. Very windy & cloudy and hard to track the ball but felt I was doing fairly well, but noticed 2 things. First, my tempo was varying, and it dawned on me that isn’t good. I had this notion that to gain distance, speeding up the tempo was the answer. I think pros can do this, but I just get erratic. I am learning that I have an optimum tempo, and maintaining that tempo, regardless how far I rotate is the right move for me. Second, I was getting my share of fades and some straight drives, then I realized I wasn’t extending quite enough to get the club parallel to the ground at the peak of my back swing. So I pushed a little farther, and again, every drive after had a slight draw. Fast forward to yesterday - didn’t score very well with 15-18 mph winds plus bigger gusts, but I drove the ball as well as ever. Also hit a 7w and 5w (3 times ea) for the first time on the course, and they were every bit as good. Was really balanced, really good rotation back, and good transition and follow through - it jus felt so day and relaxed. My scoring issues resulted with about 10-11 short approach shots using 2/3 swing with my wedges and the wind played havoc, and my fault for not being able to play through that. As poorly as I scored (89) i was elated my driver and woods. cksurfdude, Rickp, JerryB and 2 others 5 Quote Driver: Fusion, 9 deg, UST Recoil 450 ES F3/2 430 MAX 4w (5w head delofted 1* with 3w shaft), 7w, 5h w/ Alta CB Soft Regular shaft JPX923 HM 6i - GW w/ UST Recoil 460 ESX F3 RTX6 52* and 56* with Recoil 760 ESX F2 Versa DB DoubleWide : Z-Star Tour

I’ve never played fairway woods in the past. It’s not mine but borrowed my wife’s Rogue STMax D with a Cypher fifty 5.0 (mens sr). I also borrowed ST Max D 5w demo from our Callaway fitter. I’ve dabbled on the range with both. As for the 7w, I probably need the 5.5 but absolutely love the club. One par 3 approx 165 uphill over a valley, I stepped up to the tee with my 4h, and a huge head wind gust (maybe 20mph) made me switch to the 7w. Hit a high, towering slight draw, 15’ from the hole. Playing partner asked what I hit. I told him all I have to do is close my eyes, let my shoulders turn, the club does the rest. Im shopping for new irons, but I’m sold on both the Callaway 7w and 5w. Last week at pgass I hit the STMax 5 and Tm Stealth 5. Don’t care for the TM as it has a taller face. Hit it ok, just not as appealing to me. Will likely keep my old TM 4h and reshaft when I get my own 5/7. I love the 7 high trajectory with the Cypher shafts and has a nice soft landing. I think the 7 has a lot of versatility, and amazed how easy to hit. I also hit 3 really good shots with the 5w. Edit: I estimate I’d normally get a carry of around 180+ for the 7w and at the pgass was measuring around 195 carry for the 5w. I realize to those on here with much higher SS, it appears like I’m playing miniature golf. However, I do play hdcp appropriate tees. JerryB
Moving the net from the basement into the garage was a great move; it's easier to walk in and take a few cuts far more frequently. I had the big door open which cast my shadow in front of me. Been overly concerned about swaying in my swing and had a nice epiphany moment where my shadow indicated that I'm no longer swaying like I thought but rather am rotating much better than before. It's all coming along nicely. Only ten more years before my Champions Tour debut! RichL85
Hit through the bag at the range yesterday after work. I'm getting comfortable with everything from the 22 degree hybrid and down. Those top three clubs are a bit more hit or miss for me. They are coming along but just some work to do to improve consistency. The practice into the net has been helping because I see some small improvements. Everything I hit yesterday appeared to be flying a solid 20 feet higher than usual. GolfSpy_SHARK
A day at the range in determination to cure my swing woes. in a word? Progress! I grabbed a large bucket and brought my favorite 52* wedge, 9/7/5 iron and the new driving iron and set out to just hammer it out. i started chunky, which I was happier with then my consistent thin (practically topping the ball thin) previous round and range days. To me meant I was at least staying down somewhat now. I was Definitly rushing, tempo was so off and could feel it today. I went to the extreme and slowed my back swing down, stopped at the top completely and then came through. Oh how much better it was. Had some fat ones in there but to be expected and again just happy it was not thin. The result was so much better. I did about half the bucket that way. Pretty methodical. The shanks have been plaguing me for a while and I've found placing a tee outside the ball helps me not to focus on the results, but a task. I'm planning on using this the next time I hit the course when it's not crowed and so I'll keep my attention on avoiding hitting it and not worrying about the result of the shot. I do this same thing for pats but with 2 balls instead of tees. Never thought about it but I like the task thought, a goal. Use a 2x4... make it penal!! I did this years ago but my clubs were crap so it didn't matter. It really helps to make practice swings focusing on starting the club down at the top of the backswing a little before you make any rotation. It's the same as trying to keep your back to the target as long as possible in the downswing... just a different thought. I focused on getting my hands down to my hip before rotating using slo-mo swings. I don't get them there before rotating in a full swing, but I do start the club down sooner, which brings the club on plane... not over the top and shanks. cksurfdude, sirchunksalot and JerryB 3 Quote “We don’t stop playing the game because we get old; we get old because we stop playing the game.”
Vegan_Golfer_PNW
Tried the pressure shift waggle drill from TXG during my speed maintenance today. No real jump in speed but probably faster than I would be as I have been hitting the gym hard the last two weeks and the grass was slippery as Teflon. The 2x4 idea sounds scary, I could see myself hitting it solidly. It would be a great motivator, though. I've worked a little bit with Monte's wait drill I saw on Instagram, both outside with and without balls. I think it clicks with my learning style. https://www.instagram.com/p/CJrAFx2FCq6/?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y= JerryB, cksurfdude and Kenny B
JerryB
Beautiful day yesterday so my buddy Paul and I played hooky from work and hit the course. The leaves are dropping, there were lost balls everywhere, and Paul had a bad case of the shanks, so it immediately turned into a practice session for me. This was good, because I also jumped on the PXG sale bandwagon and bought a new 0211 3 wood and decided to use it as much as possible. As we finished up 9, we saw three groups waiting on 10 and ran into our friends Mark and Jesse, so we joined them and played the front nine again. Fun day! Since I'd been mostly hitting wedges into the net for the past week or so, my wedge game was really on point; the rest of the clubs were more scattershot. Starting to swing a little too hard again and have trouble dialing it back. The 3 wood requires more testing. Out of maybe ten shots, only three were well struck and two of those sliced badly. I find that when I get tired late in a round, I tend not to "wait" enough and guess what happens?!! Since I know what I didn't do, I can correct it on the next shot. It's always surprising though. cksurfdude, Rickp and sirchunksalot 3 Quote “We don’t stop playing the game because we get old; we get old because we stop playing the game.”
JerryB
Hit the range today after playing nine to get better aquatinted with my new 3 wood. Felt more frustrated afterwards. If I grip it like my driver I tend to top it. If I grip it like the rest of my clubs it slices badly...if I don't top it. Tried switching clubs and found the topping issues were bleeding into my 7 wood and hybrid as well. Finished the bucket with my 8 iron to finish positively. Some mental hurdles to clear for next time.
