MS office substitute

Looking for free substitute to install instead of buying MS office.

Just need the basics, excel, word and notepad.

Google Docs. All cloud based, no downloads required.

I use Apache Open Office:

https://www.openoffice.org/

Its a free package that does most of what MS Office does.

I have this on a couple computers at home, too. There are a few quirky things in the spreadsheet that are a bit of a nuisance to me since I use Excel every day at work and they behave just a little bit different for different things. But otherwise, perfectly acceptable.

Those the 2 big alternatives.

 

If you want a download then open office.

If you want easy sharing and access anywhere then google documents but you need to have internet access

Pencil and paper.. But it might take you a bit longer to do your task 😁😂🤣. If you are going to school you can get a pretty hefty discount on office. Also, you can probably pick up older versions of office cheap. I still run office 2013 on one of my desktops.

Working for a company that DISCOURAGES the use of Windows (we sell Linux), we are huge users of Google Docs. Multi-user simultaneous editing is a wonderful thing. Plus document version in. Plus really good mobile apps. It cured me of 20 years of Office.
