Putters: Insert vs Non-Inserts

I like my Scotty Cameron 11.5 Phantom X, but on shorter putts, under 10', I have a hard time controlling the speed. I either blow it by or come up short because I'm afraid of blowing it by! So I bought an Odyssey Eleven S with the white hot insert. On those 10' putts I'm good, but long putts I consistently hit the ball too softly and come up short. I'm curious about other players thoughts on Inserts vs Non-Insert putters.

some people like inserts, some don't.   Most people will respond one way or the other.

To me it doesn't matter and I will play either.   If there is any ball speed difference it doesn't manifest itself only in short or long putts but all putts.   If the speed changes from my current putter,  just need to practice and calibrate the new distances.

I have grown into the feeling and insert of the Whitehot mirco hinge in the Strokelab 7 I have. It took a bit and at first I really didn't like it, however having used it for a few years now I can only say that I am a big fan and it performs well for me.

I love it. Feels soft off the face, but also powerful when I need it to be on longer putts.

I had a putt with a mates milled putter recently and it was very clicky off the face. I wasn't a fan

I prefer a milled face on a putter.  Have tried a couple of putters with inserts, each time using them on the course for a few months.  Not sure why but with both putters I was unable to get the feel for distance.  Each time I kicked the putter to the curb during the middle of a round.  Once I pulled out my old milled putter, distance control improved immediately both times.
