@ZackS

thanks a ton for your detailed posts. Jealous of your fitting experience!

Id love to go forward with a TPT nitro driver shaft but am struggling with which one to choose based on the difference between what the “online fitting” suggests on the TPT website, and what you and others are seemingly fit into.

I’m 37. My swing sounds similar to yours but maybe 5 mph slower. I’m around 160-165 ball speed and 109-114 club speed. Semi aggressive transition.

Online it seems to suggest the 17 or 18 lo. But looking at the torque and cpm that sounds like a more “regular” flex shaft, which would also be supported by what the others in this test were fit into who have slower swings speed then mine.

I would highly recommend you find a TPT certified fitter and make arrangements do a dynamic fitting. We all experienced differences relative to "industry norms" as we went through this process. Much better to take the extra step and be sure of a proper fit.

@AdInfinitum I would second @William P’s recommendation about getting fit for these shafts.  Especially the Nitro range. At $650/shaft a fitting just makes sense.

If I relied on just the specs, comparing the shafts to what I’m currently playing and the online fitting I would likely have not had a very good outcome.  Especially with driver.

Well, the V5 arrived yesterday, two days early. 😬 Made for an interesting conversation to say the least, especially as SWMBO thought the conversation was over on Thursday. 😆 My sovereign lady of the house while remaining composed, had a few, shall we say, not so refined comments to share... This one is going to be expensive...🥴😣 However, on a positive note the bruises will heal in a few days and I will have the V5 for my round tomorrow. 😉🙃

I would agree with the others on the fitting suggestion especially if looking at a $650 shaft. That said one thing to keep in mind with their suggestions is they are big on the fact that with the consistency of deflection of their shafts that you are able to benefit fit from playing a lighter shaft and gain speed without dispersion loss. Though for reference I just did the online fitting and it suggested 16Lo or 16Hi depending of if I said I prefer to hit lower or higher. Compare to is to I was fit into 15Hi Nitro and 15Lo Power in the fairway and hybrid. I will mention 16Hi was right their with the 15Hi and I did get my fastest swing speed with it but consistently was a little better with the 15 and only about 1 mph less ball speed on average.

According to Arccos the fairways hit percentage over my last 50 rounds is 53%.

So two days in a row of 71% is way outside of the statistical standard of deviation for me.

Won another $45 bucks today.  At this rate these shafts will pay for my trip to Texas to get fit for the shafts  in just a few weeks!

Hope it continues.

I have stated that while I liked the G425 4H, I never got along with the 3H. Of course swing changes suggested by Jon Sinclair along with the TPT shaft he selected for me has transformed this club.

Monday morning was the Eclipse 4-man Scramble. Except we had 3 men and a woman. I was supposed to be the short game and putting guru, it turned out that not only was I that, but I was the driver and approach guru also.

So the Hybrid. Twice off the tee to the perfect position. Second shot to all four par 5’s, where I had 2 pin high 12 & 15 foot eagle putts and 1 center of the fairway 10 yards short, and 1 that carried the bunker and hit on the downslope, past the flag and just off the back.

Granted, this was a scramble, and I had back up. Still, I perhaps would have shot mid-60’s on my own ball. The best since May of 2014. It’s been a steady rain since Monday night and not sure how things will go the rest of the week. Saturday is a Par 3 tournament on the course in honor of the Masters so it may be Sunday (if I play early) before I find out if this was a fluke.

It’s performing very well for me and the feel is great as well. Going into this, the hybrid would probably be the hardest to pull out of my bag of the 3 shafts. It is not a super frequently used club just because of distance on the regular courses I play. So far on the e range and course it has been just as good and I did get to hit a few in the SIM comparing the two. Very small sample size and not a huge difference but the consistency #s were a little tighter especially in the spin. It is also a little higher launch and spin which I think will give me a little more versatility.

The rain finally cleared out so headed to the golf course.  Cart path only since we got 4 inches of rain overnight and this morning.  Decided to head to the range instead of playing.

Did my swing speed workout then chipped for a bit.

Decided to put the hybrids up against each other.

Here’s a picture of both Cobra LTDx 24 deg. 5 hybrids.  The one on the left has a Fujikura Fuel 85g Stiff shaft that I’ve used in a number of clubs over the years and the one on the right has the TPT 17 LO shaft.

IMG_0673.jpeg.f034f19655d82b3e4ab109deee3487d8.jpeg

Tried to hit both clubs the exact same way with the same swing speed.

The first video is a shot with the TPT 17 LO.

The second video is a shot with the Fujikura Fuel shaft:

The TPT 17 LO shaft launches a little higher with a bit more speed and I suspect a little more spin.

The dispersion with the TPT shaft is tighter and the centeredness and consistency of contact on the face is noticeably better.

Not sure why the Flight track isn’t showing up for the second video.  Also there is no Apex height.

The Shot shapes are very similar.  The apex of the shot with the 17 Lo hybrid shaft is 83 feet.  The apex of the shot with the Fujikura Shaft is 75 feet.

Here are a couple of pictures showing the trajectories of all the shots with both hybrids and and the dispersion.

Played the second round of our intra-course senior assoc. competition yesterday. As the formats change each 9 holes, I decided to focus on the 3W off the tee and fairway, when possible, to see how it would perform.

While I was unable to get any data other than total distance and fairways hit, I am happy to report that the club performed well with the 17LO TPT shaft. Overall, average distance improved 21yds from an average of 207yds to 228yds. Also hit a monster shot with it, for me anyway, of 252 yds. Fairways in regulation for the day were 12 of 14 for 86% with the 3W going 10 of 10 for 100%. The two missed fairways were both just a little to the right on shorter par 4's where I used an iron of the tee.

Ball flight was much like the hybrid, medium high and penetrating, which was very beneficial in the windy conditions. Again, the shaft loads smoothly and is firm and stable thru impact making it easy to get the ball launched. I'm not sure how to describe it in any other way.

If there are any questions out there let us know.

Played today with our Men’s group.  If y’all are watching the Masters then you already know it is pretty windy today in Georgia.

Despite the wind I had a good round. 38/38.  Three birdies.  One of which held up for a skin.  Got Low gross and a close up.  Also won $17 in our 6/6/6 game.  Total winnings today = $47.

These shafts are paying off!

From Arccos a picture of the 7th hole. 230 yards to carry the bunkers from the blue tees.  One of my better drives today.

I was able to get out to the range today hitting directly into a 20 to 30 mph wind. Despite the wind exaggerating anything you do dispersion was still pretty good with all 3. I also snuck in a quick trackman session at the end of the day to try and compare to my current shafts. Some how my dumb self forgot the hybrid shaft. But with the 5 wood and both my other driver shafts the overall #s are similar but TPT’s had better dispersion.

Tomorrow I’m playing in the Southeast Georgia Senior Inter Club match at Trident Lakes golf club in Kingsland, GA.  The golf course is on the King’s Bay Naval base just north of the Florida border.  It is one of the bases that house nuclear submarines.

So, to prepare I played a practice round at my home course this morning from the Senior Tees instead of my normal Blue tees, and used my 3 wood to tee off on every hole except for the par 3s and #9.

Got to hit it 14 times today.

Here is an example of one of my drives:

IMG_0680.png.d4aa7d598cee4e99dbafca52d6363dec.png

My 3 wood is a Cobra LTDx 15 degree set at +1.5 and it has been my favorite club in the bag for the past two years.  It is the best fairway wood I’ve ever had and I was pretty nervous about changing shafts on this club.

By the end of the day I had a big smile on my face.  I felt like I couldn’t miss a fairway.

Only used it for one approach shot today:

IMG_0681.png.a329782387ac48a07b49e264cd978249.png

Shot a very stress free 70 today.  35 on the front and 35 on the back.  3 birdies, one bogey and the rest pars.

The TPT Power Range 17 HI shaft is so stable.  I have a great feeling of control with it.  The shaft has quickly instilled enormous confidence in me.

My favorite club is even better now than before!
