After my round today, I wasn't sure if I was going to post about it. But, after giving myself a Gibb's Slap, here I am.

Heatherhurst GC - Crag course.
48/48/96
Rating/Slope: 65.7/114
My course Handicap: 14 (apparently I usually play this course well, just not today)

I couldn't hit the ocean with my putter today. 3 putts for everyone!!! 😞 As bad as it was, surprisingly I just had 2 triples (for a 20, that's not too bad). I had 3 pars, but too many doubles. I had some great shots and my iron game is starting to show signs of improvement. But the new BRNR w/ Smoke Blue RDX shaft is going to take a few range sessions to figure out. I had some great strikes, then I had some pulls, then I had some pushes (I hardly ever go right). I had 6 balls in the cart when the round started. I had 1 left when we finished. Yeah, one of those days. I lost 2 balls on 2 different holes. Ugh!

I'm going to sign up for another 5-pack of lessons with my coach here for the remainder of the year. We'll still focus on my iron swing, but we'll also need to find out what's wrong with my driver swing and why I can't hit them any farther than either of my BRNR or 2w.

On a happier note, my 83 year old dad shot a 42/43/85!! He was killing it today. 9 pars, 5 bogeys, and 4 doubles. I love seeing him playing well. Not so much him wiping the course with me. 😉

It happens. You got to enjoy a round with your dad and play some golf.

Tomorrow's a fresh day and new round.

Front 9 @ Hunters Ridge - Marion, IA

45 - 1/7 FW, 3/9 GIR, 19 Putts, 1 penalty stroke/lost ball.

Irons were dialed today, approach game felt really good. Missed greens were just off and only had 2 3 putts today (which is two too many). Only had one really poor shot (OB), otherwise was manageable all day long. Short game was a little off today, but still serviceable. Driver stayed in the bag in favor of my 2i off the tee for most of the course today, and I really liked the strategy. I put that thing 230 and mostly straight, eliminating my big misses off the tee. Not too bad for my second true time out this year.

Congratulations @OdinSnipes414 !  Welcome to the sub 90 club!

@cksurfdude. We all have these rounds! It can happen at any moment at any time! I had a nasty blowup hole today.  Ruined my shot at making 85 or better for the day (would have been a 1st for me)

But I do like that I can replay the best moments of the day too!  Those are the ones to dwell on! ( like @sirchunksalot post above shows!)

Took the franken-cart out for it's maiden voyage today, and it performed well!

20240519_111740.jpg.0ccc8af8ebcadac76862cecba00c1424.jpg

2 things to note: 1, I was only supposed to walk 9 holes, that did not go as planned, I walked the full 18. 2, without full length dividers, the club grips fall back into each other and it was a pita to remove them.

20240519_172607.jpg.07757cb3cbdc63661a8749ec0b8716f4.jpg20240519_172634.jpg.635cfc5a60c0fac0a20b3add2897aae4.jpg

Other than that, I shot pretty well at 40/46. It's a course I don't play often, but hit 95% of fairways! Longest drive was 246! (See tee box pic) and managed an up and down from behind these trees (see pic).

I did have a couple blow up holes though, and since I don't track or count the strokes until the end of each 9, I wasn't aware I was going to have a chance to make or break 85 (would have been a PB)

I did have 2 triple putts, but I fault the crappy, diseased and pitted greens for the putts hopping, yes HOPPING,  a number of times.

Fairway game was still my worst part today though. I just wasn't connecting with the 4hy as well as the other day.

I did manage to flight a 6i for 175 yards though (a first for me!) And never have I hit a 9i nearly 140 yards! (Overshot the green from 120 yards and bunkered the ball.  Oof!)

Now excuse me while I go tend to my sun burn and aching thighs! Walking a hilly course is hard on these muscles!!! (Or lack of!) 😆 🤣 😂

And I can't say im ready to commit 100% to the push cart mafia.... just yet..😆

Here's my favorite pic of the day

Had a great time on the course today with @RoverRick at the Sulpher Springs CC.

Shot a new personal best since returning to the game last Spring.  37 front, 39 back for 76,  13/14 FIR,  11/18 GIR, 34 Putts.

My putting still leaves a lot to be desired but slowly improving...

Congratulations on the PB!

Those greens are not the easiest to read. As the pro told you on Tuesday, people always struggle their first few times on these greens. On the 18th hole we played today that you made the birdie putt, you and the other 2 guys thought I was crazy for telling you to play it 2” right of the hole because it broke left, when everyone “could see” there was a big hill left and a drop off right. It “has to go right”.

We were fortunate that there was not a severe wind and, frankly, they were generous hole locations.

We have a tournament called “Huck’s Revenge” when the Superintendent puts the pins in impossible locations. That’s a fun one. But it also doesn’t cost much money. People would raise hell if they paid that entry fee we paid and there were “unfair” pin locations.

I am pretty terrible and new. Last weekend I played at Dragonfly links in Renfrew Ontario. It is a beautiful well designed course and the weather was perfect.

I played an excellent round (for my ability). Don't laugh, but I managed to break 110. it was a great accomplishment for me. looking to break 100 soon.

If golf was easy everyone would play. Enjoy the time you get to play, it is never enough.

Wife is out of town today which gave me a green light to get out to the course this morning. I'm a member at Amana Colonies Golf Club in Amana, Iowa, which is a hidden gem. I mean, look at this.

Every hole is tree lined and has very little room for error. However, this is by far my favorite course of all time, even with the challenge.

I played really well today and am happy with how I played. I shot +2 on the front and Even on the back. The best ever score I've ever posted on this course and one that gives me the confidence I need to continue playing well. Scorecard below for reference:

That course looks absolutely BEAUTIFUL, but also potentially slow to play.

I avoid courses, as pretty as they are, that wind through natural woods.   Our club has lots of well-spaced trees like a city park.  That's more my speed, and also hard to find in New England other than Cape Cod or Newport.

Hey just wondering... Do you even need the top strap?

Almost looks like your tube bracket may be enough to keep the bag in place .. I'm thinking if the strap is cinched too tight maybe it's squeezing the clubs..?
