Customizing my Scotty on my own

Recommended Posts

I’m looking to customize my Scotty Cameron Phantom X 5.5 on my own (not sending it off to SC). What recommendations are there for materials to use such as paint type, type of brush, etc? I’m going for a metallic red/gold Iron Man theme.

Sounds like you just want to do paintfill.

testers or Tamiya paint,    Acetone, toothpick, brushes, or needle paint applicators, and paper towels are the basics.

Get a cheap putter to test on first, is my recommendation.  Thrift store, goodwill, garage sale, etc. Play around with different techniques and applications.

Great thought! Helped me remember I have a couple of older putters I can try it out on. Would rather jack up a $2 putter than the $450! Thanks a ton!

  • 3 weeks later...

Update- I have experimented on a cheaper putter with testors and it went okay, but still have some practice before I put it on the Scotty. I also experimented with some paint pens that were pretty painless. I have also delved into some metallic adhesive vinyl and really liked the results. Doesn’t damage the finish in the club and also can be easily removed in case I want to switch it up.

for a more permanent paint I would recommend  pin striping paint for cars. I believe its called first stop?

Driver - 44.5" 5.0 flex 10.5 deg Graphite Design XC 6S GP MCC4+ 1 deg closed

Irons - 5-pw, GW stnd length 5.0 flex same grip 1 deg flat. Type low medium offset cavity back, no diggers

Wedges - 56 and 60 tour grind wedge spinner and mcc4+ grip 2 flat 10 and 8 in bounce

Putter - Makefield VS LH

Ball - truvis

Carried in a Sun Mountain C-130 USA bag - BE PROUD.

HC - LH but 85 is a good number, playing in Ohio.
