I'm looking for something to replace my current hybrid. I currently have a TRS 2, but I'm not happy with it. I'm looking for something more forgiving. I have a 5 wood that I fly about 240, and I'm looking for what loft I should be in for a hybrid. The 5 wood is 18 degrees. Anyone have any advice that would need a stiff or x-stiff shaft? Looking for forgiveness and accuracy over distance. Looking for around 2220 to 230 carry.

Sorry but definitely a generic answer, but only way to find those specific numbers is going to be through a fitting. So many ppl are different have all sorts of variables.

Ping has been a really popular hybrid among the forum staff though. Same with Titliest and PXG is underrated for their hybrids to name a few.

Same goes for shaft, the stiffness profiles are different across brands so X may be similar to an S in others. Do you know what weight you prefer? That is a place I generally like to start and look at.

Sorry for my non answer-answer.

The PXG XF lines are very forgiving. Have similar rails on the bottom to the old Cobras to help get through the turf. As far as shaft, that the wild west. Company A might be labeled as X flex where as Company B is labeled as S flex but is "stiffer" than the X flex from company A. If you have a shaft you like that's a good place to start but like mentioned above, a fitting would be ideal.

I would say borrow a friends, hit some stores for used clubs, and try them all before buying. My bag is all different brands but I hit each 1 of them well for whatever reason.

My PING 3 wood was not as good as my TM Stealth 2+ for me. But my PING Hybrids are amazing for me. Try them all and enjoy the journey

Hi, just to make sure, are you looking to replace your 5-wood with an hybrid or if you want to keep it and replace your TSR2 for another hybrid that goes 220-230 yds?

I'm asking because it also depends on your bag setup. What do you have in the long section of the bag? D-3W-5W-Hybrid or D-5W-Hybrid? Also, what is your longest iron?

Based on your driver swing speed from your profile page (101-110 mph), I'd venture in saying that a stiff shaft would be more appropriate than x-stiff. That being said, it's only good to try it for yourself and see. In my case, I cruise around 115-116 mph club head speed with driver and have an x-stiff shaft, but I prefer stiff shafts on my 3W and 20* hybrid for example. I then fall back on x-stiff shaft on my irons.

In terms of hybrid model, the world is your playground. I have a 20* Titleist TSi3 turned down to 19* that I wouldn't change for anything in the world. I know that Ping hybrid are crazy popular and know a few playing partners that have Srixon ZX hybrids that are over the moon with them. Try them  and enjoy!

For me, I like the previous season Taylormade hybrids because they are in great supply because of the amount of demos out there every year. I'm left handed, so I don't get to test any of my righty friends' clubs and TM hybrids seem to be very affordable too. I usually pay around $125 for one in good/excellent condition on eBay from Global Golf. If I get a year of use out of them and re-sell them for $75-100, I am a happy golfer.

I'm still playing my SIM MAX from a few seasons ago and I'd say a 2023 Stealth (plus + model) hybrid could be what you are looking for in terms of forgiveness. Low risk on cost to test them out used with Ventus shaft options.

My guess would be you are looking for around a 21* hybrid.  PXG TM, Ping all have some great options on hybrids that are forgiving.

There are lots of good hybrids out there, for certain.  I game the Paradym X and love it, and am trying the Apex 21 too, just for kicks.  I bought one b/c I wanted to try the shaft it had in the Paradym.

I wouldn't get too hung up on the stated flex of the shaft, as @BreakfastBall15 said.  If you like the shaft in your 5W maybe get the same/similar hybrid shaft to try.  Or ask a fitter (or look online) to see what shafts have similar profiles.

Best wishes on the journey and please let us know what you try and choose.

Working at getting better ... and very slowly getting there.

Personally I am a huge fan of the AI Smoke and Darkspeed hybrids. I bought a darkspeed and it feels and sounds amazing, my 3 hybrid goes about 210 yds.

The Ping G425/G430 Max hybrids are very forgiving. I'd definitely put those into the mix.

If the OP wants a 21 degree hybrid or so, I recommend that he try a 7 wood also and compare the two.  I am a senior and so our needs may differ, but I replaced my 21 degree hybrid with a PXG 7 wood a couple of years and really like the 7 wood.  It is really easy to get up in the air (esp. important on a par 5 on my course where I have a downhill lie on my second shot with a long carry over water).  Also, our course has high rough during the summer and I love how easy it is to get balls out of the rough with the club.
