Finally broke 80

Had a match play this weekend at my club.  Men's Golf Assoc event.  Had such a bad first round I walked the last 10 holes.  Shot a 104 

Sunday - went and worked on short game and putts.  Nothing else.  Shot a 78 including 3 Double Bogeys with two on the last two holes.  Was 2 under on back 9 with 2 to play.  Then two of the doubles.  Everything felt good.  Relaxed, easy swing, did not worry about a thing.  

 

What a feeling.

@Kenny B is right.  I struggled to break 80 for years.  I can't tell you how many times I hit 80 and 81 without pushing it over the edge for a sub-80 round.  It became a mental block.

The first time I did it was on an unusually warm November day in Western New York.   Going to the last hole, all I needed was a bogie to break 80 and I got a par for 78.  From that point on, what once seemed impossible now seemed probable.  The next weekend happened to be warm again and I shot 79 on a different course.  

Once you know it's possible, the flood gates do seem to open.  Enjoy the ride and congratulations!

That is exactly how I felt breaking 90! Great correlation!

Breaking 80 and writing a 7 followed by any number is a special feeling.  Congrats!!
