Popular Post TSauer
So, uhh… this is pretty awesome!! HUUUGE shoutout to the admins for this fantastic testing opportunity, it’s an honor to have been selected! Also, SkyTrak, I know you’re watching… THANK YOU for jumping on board this historic member testing year and making it even more incredible. For the past couple of years I have toyed around with the idea of getting a launch monitor, so these are super exciting times! Now, a little bit about me. My name is Tyler and I live in the tiny town of Belle, MO with my wife of five years, our soon to be three year-old son, and our Boston terrier Koby. It is a rather small country town, with a population of about 1,500 people, and home to our local Pine Ridge Golf Course. It is a rather short nine hole course, but has produced some of the best golfers I've ever come across. Hence, my need to improve over the winter months. I am fortunate enough to be able to play a majority of the year here in Missouri, but when winter rolls around, golf gets put on the back burner and my clubs aren't touched for probably three or four months. Somehow it's always the same story when the season starts... good for the first couple months back, I lose my swing in the middle of the summer, then find it when Fall arrives... just in time to hang things up for the snow. Luckily, when it is peak golfing season, I'm able to sneak out to the course a few times a week to either play or practice. However, the one main reason I have been wanting a LM is because we don't have a local range. My practice comes from playing, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but if I wanted numbers or to just practice long irons, wedges, whatever it may be... that is out of the picture. As I mentioned before, I've been eyeing launch monitors for a little while now. I wanted something that I could use in my limited space and didn't have to fork up extra room behind the ball to make things work. I've used the OG Skytrak a handful of times at a friend of mine's house and knew a setup like that is what I needed to be aiming for. There is a lot of tinkering that happens around here, but I would love to be able to take that to the next level with data that backs up and justifies my purchases... or at least that's what I'll tell my club-ho self. The real goal is to see how versatile the device is. How well will this work for those golfers that want to hit in the off season or maybe on a rainy day, but don't have the space to go full blown sim setup? I'll be hooking this up to my gaming PC as well as my iPad Pro to run the various applications. I've also learned that you can run GSPro on the ST+, so I am really looking forward to deep diving into that and seeing just how well it performs. I am going to do my best to capture and relay to you all just how easy, or hard, the device is to set up and use right out of the box. If I'm lucky and the stars align, I may be able to put this head to head against the GC3! Really, really looking forward to kicking this thing off! To those of you following along, please feel free to drop any and all questions you may have or concepts you want us to test! I wonder if I'll have one of those aforementioned "full blown sim setups" by the time this is all said and done.... Popular Post Swood1994
SkyTrak + - Official MyGolfSpy Forum Review Introduction Next on the tee Lafferty Daniel! Hello everyone! First and foremost I want to thank the MGS Forum and its staff as well as Skytrak for this amazing testing opportunity. I’ve been in the market for an at home launch monitor for a while now so I'm excited to put the Skytrak+ to the test. On the forum I go by Swood1994 but in my day to day my name is Stephen. I live in Central NY, in Syracuse (Go Orange!), so our golf season is relatively short compared to other parts of the country hence why an at home sim/launch monitor is crucial for off season practice. In addition to a short golf season, I have a wife and 18-month-old with another little one due in October! They keep me plenty busy so sometimes it’s hard to get away for 2.5-5 hours on the course or driving range. I’m hoping more home practice will help keep my golf game sharp and get my oldest daughter into golf more and more seeing her dad play at home. Now, although our golf season is relatively short in Upstate NY, I make do and try to maintain a 5-6 handicap year in and out. I am currently sitting at a 6.5 and can say my game has fallen off a little bit this year, but I have a really cute excuse (my daughter). I’d say my biggest fault in my game is consistency. I think most of us can say that is why we aren’t better but when I start to play more, I notice the game getting slightly easier and my mishits or stupid mistakes are mitigated, and I start to break into that 75-78 territory more often. But when I only play 9 holes a week or sometimes 9 holes every other week that is when I notice I have the game to shoot a 78 or a 90 on any given day which is frustrating. The biggest appeal for me when it comes to the launch monitor market is the ease of use at home and the ability to practice and get real time feedback. Now I’m also a data nut. My day job consists of a lot of data reporting and analyses as a manager of sales operation for an automotive tech company. That fully translates into golf for me as I love to know what my numbers are and how different equipment affects those numbers. Then there is the simulation aspect of the unit as well which is always a plus! I’ll be running the unit off of a gaming PC rig with the following specs: i5, 32 GB of RAM, 500GB of SSD, 1TB of HDD and a RTX 3060 Ti graphics card. I’ll also be testing the IOS app from Skytrak for more outdoor range use. My plan is to hit into a Spornia SPG-7 hitting net off of a basic 5’x4’ 28mm thick hitting mat both indoors and outdoors. I will also be planning on taking the Skytrak+ to the range and utilizing my iPhone 15 Pro to see what data I can capture off of a grass range. My main testing points will be ease of use/setup, the user interface, the overall data points and features, and the accuracy of those data points. Now I don’t have any comparable products to test against, but I do plan to take the Skytrak+ to a local Golf Galaxy to put it against a trackman and compare numbers on various shots/clubs. Pics of the setup coming soon!
