Arccos Love/Hate Relationship

I do like my Arccos app. Overall. Not crazy about the sensors on the grips. Feel like I am constantly retightening them, I would prefer a grip, but I don’t want to buy a new one every time I switch grips. It’s fairly accurate but I find I have to write down my score and review the scorecard after every round. Yesterday Arccos had me at 76. After reviewing it was an 81. I liked the 76 better! I find it misses tap in putts of a foot or less. Where it was great yesterday was playing in the wind. We had 15mph with guts up to 25mph. With my Smart Distances and the wind calculations it was super helpful to play the suggested adjustments. So I’m torn about keeping it, or experimenting with other apps. I do love the new Link with the charger. Super easy to put in my pocket and better than on the belt. My watch never survives 18h so I use the Link.

Loved it while I was still grandfathered in to not having to pay the subscription price. As soon as that ended I dropped it.

It's been a few years since I've used ARRCOS - does it have a manual putting mode like Shotscope? If yes, the manual mode may reduce or eliminate the edits.

I have been using the Link since late June and also love it! I do review each hole on my phone while playing. If the course is not busy, I will do it after each hole and make adjustments as needed. Otherwise, I do the same and compare it with a scorecard. I have found the same thing on putts in general. Mostly tap in putts though where I don't typically get into my normal putting setup.

It does have an edit feature. The app goes off of sound or vibration so with a tap in I don’t think the impact is enough to always register. If I do a full set up and putt it will probably work, but who wants to be that guy who sets up for a 1 foot tap in!

It was great to get some real data about my game, but it was always missing/adding shots and many times failed to recognize fairways and greens in reg. Like @GolfSpy_APH, once the free subscription ran out I ripped the grips of my clubs and don't feel like I'm missing anything.

I agree it’s not cheap, but it’s pretty great data and the shot capture tech is getting better.  Hard to say if it remains in my bag…

I've used 3 different shot tracking devices. Can't remember the name of the first one but it was red and black with a unit you put on your belt and had to tap the club on it after each shot.

Not the best if you have ADD , I even tried putting ribbons on the club butts. Still missed huge number of tags. Spent more time correcting than playing lol.

Then I tried ARCCOS and much improved but it still missed a high number of shots no matter how I placed my phone in my pocket. Then I started having battery issues. 

Finally along came shotscope with no subscription and NO batteries. It only misses an occasional shot.  I originally used the V2 then they came out with an offer to upgrade to the V3 version.

I keep both in my car charging up as both seem to work equally well , just that the V3 is smaller.  I haven't made the bump up to the V5 yet as  I'm satisfied with the V2-V3 for now. 

I also find the Shotscope app on Android and on PC well made and easy to use. The stat's it provides is quite complete as well.

So in my experience the shotscope is more reliable and accurate than the ARCCOS and much less expensive.

First it was Golf Pad with club sensors and the last few years a Shot Scope V3.  The V3 might miss a putt or two per round but other than that it’s been as close to 100% as you could ask.  I look at the distances on the watch and just play.

I use the shot scope V3.  I like the stats but I am thinking about changing.

I canceled after I was going to have to pay after a free trial. The yardages were always off and sometimes significantly. The case I always use is, I had 191 to the flag using my laser, hit a 6 iron flag high. Arccos said 178. I also did not like how big the sensors were on my grips and how it changed the way the clubs felt during my swing. Maybe I am overly sensitive but as soon as I took them off, I started hitting the ball way better.

I find the information I get from Arccos to be extremely valuable. I do have a few complaints though. First, I found the Link to be unreliable. I've used the Arccos app on my Apple Watch for the last couple of years without a problem. Second, as @Heyweb mentioned, I now check and, if necessary, tighten the sensors before every shot. Third, setting the pin position can be awkward especially if you're not playing with a regular group. It's also very easy to forget.

Tried Arccos and did not like it.  It had way too many potential points of failure and was a much bigger (like WAY BIGGER)  distraction than a help.

I absolutely love my arccos. I have the link and feel like it picks up 90% of my shots. The GPS can be a bit off sometimes but I got back and edit each hole at the next tee box, as well as review the entire round when I get home. I find the data to be incredible and love seeing my strokes gained . It is a staple in my golf game now. I would like to get the sensor grips vs the twist ons but I rarely have issues with the feel of them

I use arrcos and it is a good idea but has a problem

I'm a big fan of Arccos. The data is great. I use the link and I'd say it captures 95% of my shots, yes the occasional miss one (especially the tap in putts), but overall it does well and easy fixes 

I'm still in the first year and haven't had to renew the subscription yet so I don't have anything negative to say there ...

My biggest issue is the hole layouts. The yardages have seemed accurate enough, but the satellite/google map images will be inconsistent. 

Screen shot below of an example. I was short of the green, on my approach and chipped it. Arccos was correct in the distance and location relative to the green, and correct in the lie (rough)

But when I "zoom" in and look at just the green, it shows my chip location as being on the green.

My guess is this is an error from what they convert to the green from the google maps images as several greens seem larger that what is actually there. 

 

This isn't a big issue or concern and the distances/lies that are detected are accurate.

I used Arccos for one year. It was fun to know my true distances, but they turned out to be what I thought they were.

As of the last update I used, the battery life of my apple watch went down to 13 holes, so I couldn't even finish one round. Having to transfer the round back to my phone was hit or miss. Huge negative here.

The cost was way too expensive for the golf season here in central Canada. The season is 5-6 months top, so the effective subscription rate was double the face price.

The fact that the sensor batteries were not replaceable was also a negative.

The main benefit I got from it was hitting a drive but not hitting the fairway which happens far too often for me. By knowing how well I felt I hit that particular shot, and looking at the app, I could use that to help where to start looking in the woods.

I am now using Hole19 app and it has a similar feature, that can be enabled manually and there are no sensors required. (Plus Hole19 costs a lot less per year.)

I’ve been using Arccos for a year now, and I do really like the data it presents. 
 

It is very easy to see what part of my game was struggling or excelling on any given day, but as far as being able to use that data, I haven’t found that I’ve been improving much. Some of that may be attributed to changes in equipment, returning from injury, and also a new job so I do not get out to practice nearly as much as I used to during the week. 
I still have long weekends and a large breaks as a college professor, but I need to get to those breaks before seeing how my practice can pick back up again. 
 

Overall if you have a coach that can work with you with this data I could really see how you could improve quickly, but on your own I’ve found it to be more just fun data. 
 

On the plus side, it’s very easy to link to the GHIN so it’s very easy to post scores.

I finally had to replace the Gen 2 sensors because they died and I contacted their customer service rep when I bought new sensors and said “Arccos promised me the app would be free for life when I originally bought sensors. I’m not going to purchase new sensors AND pay a subscription. If you don’t honor your free app for life with Gen 2 sensors promise I’m done with Arccos.”

The Arccos Rep made it happen and I’m still grandfathered in and don’t have to pay a subscription. I did have to buy 14 new sensors, but was able to use the discount as an existing Arccos member.

I will try to use the same approach if/when these sensors die. I do find the data Arccos provides to be very valuable for me for club selection and practicing on what I mess up the most on course (short game and bunkers…and not hitting driver OB!).

I’ve had success reaching out to their customer service team and getting courses updated (think Riverside or Olmos - you’re in San Antonio so you know) after renovations so they may be able to update. They use satellite mapping, so if the Google map is updated they can use that to fix it.

One time I got them to add an entire new course to their database as they didn’t have the 9-hole course in Columbus, TX mapped as an option. I provided their customer service team with a photo of the scorecard and their address and it was literally available 2 days later! I went back in and manually added my shots the best I could remember.

I own the Arccos system and tried to use it but it was a bit to uncomfortable to play with my phone in my pocket.  I bought the belt clip piece and tried it again.  It still was a bit hit or miss for my liking.   I use the score card to keep notes.   I put the tee club in the top box then on the line down I put the distance to the hole for the second shot and dots for the fairway is top center left or right corner to show where I missed the fairway  and the club to be  played.  I do the same to the green and on the green but distance in feet on the green.  The bottom line I keep the score.

I really like it though it really sucks at sensing putts.  I haven't upgraded to the new version of the link yet so maybe it's better. 

I wait until Black Friday and buy myself an annual subscription to save some money.  I really like the stats and club distances and how it recommends clubs taking current wind readings.  I find it tense to over club, but it's consistent 1 club more so it says to hit 6 I know to hit 7.

It does offer crazy strategies sometimes like hit 6, 6, PW on a long par 4. But it is so accurate on distances that I played 2 holes in the pitch dark a couple weeks ago and found every shot.

I've always used the link, when it works correctly, that's great. If I have to check to see if it's working right, distraction. I want to put phone in the bag or cart and play golf. Not mess with my phone.
