  5. I met Ken when he was playing the Sunbelt Senior Tour a number of years back. Quite a character. He was involved in a horrible vehicle accident about 10 year or so now. His motor home blew a steer tire and actually hit a guard rail. His girlfriend at the time and his pet dog were killed and Ken lost an leg. Glad to see he wrote a book

  6. The latest issue of Golf Digest includes an extended article detailing Tiger Woods's ball testing procedure with Bridgestone: Why mention that here? Because Tiger's testing was done without knowledge of the intended characteristics of the balls Bridgestone put in front of him: And that's exactly what twelve(!) MyGolfSpy Forum Members get to do now! Bridgestone will be shipping out a couple of sleeves of balls these members. What are they? What are they supposed to help with? We don't know! And that's the key: this is a blind, unbiased review, without coming in with expectations of performance based on the OEM's claims. I'm excited to read our members' thoughts on these new Bridgestone balls. Who will be playing the role of Tiger for our community? @dalejbrass @daviddvm @DrMJG @FiveGs @gbtrsc @GSwag @jddaigneault @mr.hicksta @Shankster @Smellis745 @Trial&Error @yungkory Congrats to these members, and the rest of us can read up on their testing when we're not shoveling snow!

Nice comeback. I like Ernie, but I thought Ernie was pretty cocky during his interview after Day 3 when he told Tiger that the fans were similar in NY... get over it. He also smirked when Tiger said that he was optimistic of a comeback. I think it pi$$ed off Tiger. Except for a few great putts by a few of the US players during the week, I thought the US team putted extremely poor. They seemed confused by the line and had the speed wrong a lot. Putting was better in the singles, but even then... some poor putts by Kuch, Rickie, Webb, Finau, and Thomas. Lots of 3-jacks.

  11. Yesterday I went to the PING Demo at Desert Hills GC. I arrived a bit before they started and hit a bucket of balls. I had a great ball strike groove going - hitting everything well. The newly acquired G400 SFT 5w, like the 3w, worked great and should fill the gap between my 4i and 3w. For my demo session I wanted to hit the Blueprint, i210, and i500. The fitter configured each with the same AWT 2.0 R, +1 shaft on my G410's and we captured data. I started with the I500's and was hitting them well. They felt like they were jumping off the face (definitely a different sound/feel), but yardage and ball flight was only a yard or two better than the G410's. The i210's offered no advantage on yardage. To me, they felt and sounded very similar to the G410's. Mishits on both were slightly more penalizing than the G410's. So we moved onto the postage stamps, the silver dollar on the end of a shaft Blueprints. Wow, are these ever small! As well as I was striking everything, this was a really good session to see how I could handle a Players Classic club design. The results were dramatic. While I was still hitting close to center (ball marks), yardage dropped off with most hits barely equallying the other irons. The flush hits yielded as much as +12 yards and ball flight was lower. To be honest, I did not like the sound or feel of these irons. On all of these, I attempted to draw and fade shots towards the end of the data gather. The Blueprints were most dramatic but hard to repeat. The i500's worked best but only marginally better than my 410's. I suspect it's principally my lack of skill set more than the irons - but I have lost some workability since changing from my PE2's. Maybe in time and continued practice I'll get some more out of the G410's. At the end of the session, the fitter said no doubt the G410's are the right irons for me. That left me with a good and disappointed feeling. Great that I'm using well matched clubs but disappointed my skill set cannot take advantage of those much talked about "Butta Sticks"... at list those offered by PING. As suggested by some of you, there are a few others to try... so perhaps the quest is not yet over. Since we had a little time left, I asked him about the Glide 2.0 wedge... specifically "why can't I hit the damned thing?" I hit the PW and UW with ease and with repeatable yardage. He set the Glide next to my UW and asked "did you not want the +1 length on this club as well"... Gafaa...WTH?? He then set one up with the +1 length shaft and had me hit it... problem solved. So now I either go have it extended or sell it and order a new one. The "extension" route sounds like a hack job to me... especially on a brand new set of sticks.

  26. Just watched several of the final round highlights and it was clear that Team USA's putters came out of their deep freeze... and none too soon as the International players were dropping putts from everywhere. Now who besides me wants one of those Navy Blue team puffy jackets?

    Carry Bags

Based on the reviews and checking out the Titlest, Mizuno, Callaway, Taylor made, Sun Mountain, and ultimately Ping - which is what I bought. Picked up the Hoofer on sale at my local shop for $160 and couldn't be happier. It's not the lightest, but tons of features, good club organization, and great shoulder straps.

    Muscleback Iron Review

LOL forgive me for laughing you thought the faces on the blue prints were small. To me they look large compared to my butter knife Macs---- But then again I have hit those type blades all my life. As far as extending your wedge 1 inch it ain't a hack job if done properly

  30. Awaiting my results. Curious to see how I get around with the Mini Driver. Last time I was at the simulator I hit 107 with it. Probably nowhere near that, cold rain, tired. Can’t wait to see what is inside of that box when it shows up! Doing a little research last night with the MGS Ball Guide, I really enjoyed playing the Tour B XS, but the numbers from the test show it to be really close to the RX, except for iron distance being a touch more on the RX. I really like the feel of a mushy ball on my irons and wedges. Even if they put me in something else I think I am going to give the RX a go this year. A little less spin on irons and wedges would be welcomed.

  37. Agree with cnosil that a few more specifics on the before vs after of a putter / putter shaft fitting would be very helpful. Taking "the other side", though, about how to improve your score -- if, yes: Big *IF* - looking at putting in isolation, if one could significantly .. over time .. reduce their incidence of 3-putts then shouldn't that have a positive impact on their scores? Yes, certainly - better approaches can lead to less 3 putts, but then ... having a better number of better approach shots is reliant on hitting (more often) from the fairway ... which in turn is reliant on better tee shots, ie. more accurate .. and also hopefully longer at the same time. So by that extended logic better putting is a consequence of better tee shots (but then whom amongst us doesn't want THAT?!?!). Again - looking at putting in isolation - IF the stability shaft helps a particular player (maybe not all players) putt more confidently and more accurately then that could be a positive for their scores.

Unfortunately when your in the Public Eye you have to take the crap. Security seemed to be lax and I would have thought Reed should have a little extra security when he s a target. Didn’t get the pairing either unless Tiger has a good reason. Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy

  41. Neutral but it gets weaker as I move towards the longer clubs. I have a tendency to have more of a draw as I move towards the driver. The weaker grip helps me reduce the lefts. Of course it depends on how the day is going as well [emoji12] Sent from my iPad using MyGolfSpy

  43. No apologies necessary Grand. I've hit them both, but did not compare them head to head. That said, some unofficial impressions: They're remarkably similar. Both are silly easy to hit, to the point you really don't want to stop. I like the Wilson long irons a little better, they launch VERY high and go VERY far. I think distance was one of the things Cleveland tried to juice with the new Launcher HB Turbos - despite winning Most Wanted Super Game Improvement, it was not among the longest irons in the test. I like that Wilson is marketing the irons as a specific problem solver - a cure for the chunks. Their target is clearly the golfer who doesn't spend a lot of time on forums and they're hoping "anti-chunk" is the message that gets through. I tell you, there are day... If I were a target golfer, I think I'd be happy with either one. Or the Cobra T-Rail. If you hit both, or all three - let us know what you think.

  44. I'm not overall pleased with the swing I sent in to them but I am very blown away with the fact you simply send in a swing video and they send back data that definitely are well within the "ballpark" of what I know to be my standard norm. I used my Mevo for 7 drives to know when I was more or less warmed up before the video swing and the data sent back from Bridgestone was basically within 3%+/- error of the averages I had just collected. From a simple 1 swing video....................I vote that to be impressive. I'm more curious as to how/why they recommended Tour B XS to our tester who had 113mph chs and fairly high spin? Isn't that the "spinnier" ball? I thought that curious

  46. I've had 3 aces, and had one round in the 60's. I've been as low as even-par 72 this year, so I suppose having another in the 60s is still a possibility, and I'd say that's the feat I'd cherish the most. Next would be to shoot my age, and I'm still a few years away from that being a possibility. Another ace would be amazing, but its not on the top of my golfing dream accomplishment list.

  47. Hey everyone! I recently joined the RTX 4 family changing from my SM6 50 8 bounce F grind, 54 10 bounce S grind, and 58 12 bounce K grind. My set composition is 50 and 54 mid and 58 full. I’m torn whether or not to get my 58 in mid rather than full? They’re pretty much the same with the mid making it easier to open the face. I’m trying to get some feedback from the group whether or not it’s advisable. The courses I play at are moderately firm as well as their traps. I love the s400 shaft but if I ever were to change, what shaft option would you pick and why? Thanks everyone! I appreciate any feedback!

  49. First, I will introduce myself. My name is Kyle Everhart and I am a Medically Retired Recon Marine due to a severe neck injury after a combat deployment to Afghanistan. My golfing obsession started after my VA therapist had lunch with my wife to figure out how to help and understand the struggles that I was going through. This is when the amazing game that is called golf was brought up because my therapist said that I needed to get outside and have a competitive and social outlet even with my physical injuries. Once my therapist found out that my wife managed a bar and grill at a golf course she said that is the perfect outlet. Soon after my wife went and talked with the owners of the golf course about this meeting she just had and just tried to get some pointers on how to get me started playing golf. Without hesitating these people who owned this golf and resort told my wife that Kyle can play here whenever he wants for free and that is how my love and obsession started for this game we all call golf.

  50. Last year the vast majority of testing opportunities were open to all forum members, sure some were restricted to certain locations, but without going through all the application threads, I think international forum members were probably disproportionately represented in the reviews. The vast majority of regular participants in the forum are from the USA, but there was a significant number of review opportunities available to, and given to non USA members, I should know, I was selected to review the Ping G700 irons. Sure, there were a few things I would have loved to have applied for, but as long as it's clear who can apply (which it is now) it doesn't bother me. I started a thread asking about the possibility of international members paying for shipping, and Barbajo posted a thorough and clear explanation of why that wouldn't necessarily work, as licensing and exclusivity come in to play for some of the company's who submit equipment for review.
