  1. Still getting out to the garage 2-3 times per week to hit balls, but had been struggling recently. The weather is so close to changing for the better, which means I'm getting the itch to be outside on the range rather than indoors. I find my temperament starts to get worse this time of year in regards to my practice and I get frustrated all too easily. That being said, yesterday was one of the best sessions I've had in probably over a month. Lots of good swings, lot less draw than I had been seeing for the past few weeks. Still working heavily on setup, but also focusing on the backswing turn and ensuring I don't get the club trapped behind me. Finished the session with some off-the-deck shots with my fairway and was happy with the flight and club/ball speeds. Topped out around 111 MPH club and 162 MPH ball, so that's promising. Stack work has been paying dividends. Supposed to be 40-50 degrees almost all week so the snow should be gone. Might be able to start putting outdoors next week, depending on when the practice facility decides to open. If we can stay dry the range might open in two weeks and my course won't be too far behind. About a month out hopefully.

  2. I stopped wearing my belt on the course because it was a little too distracting to others.

  3. Had a really surprisingly great round (for me) that has me doubting everything I've read about club fitting and new technology. Card below but.....I was a round at my old home club while back in Ireland for a weekend game with my brothers. I was playing with a set of clubs that was very assorted. My irons were a set of DCI 990s I left at home a few years ago, from 2003 ish. My driver was a Taylor made burner in 9.5 that I'd bought on ebay about 8 years ago. The putter was my nephews, pulled out of his bag that I had time for roughly 15 mins of pootling around the putting green with. I had my best ball sriking day of the last few YEARS. I was shaping my irons more or less as desired, and while I missed a few putts early on, I holed a bunch of clutch putts coming in to finish 4 over gross..... Super happy with the day, less happy to have pointless spent about 2-3k on fitted Irons, woods and putter over the last 3 years!!!!

    How'd you play?

Starting to find my game or maybe just getting used to the new course. Still coming up a little short but I’m working on it. Chipping was very good leaving me with very reasonable putts. I was able to make two birdies, two bogies, and the rest were pars. It was nice to shoot even par. First solid round of the year. Got to shoot the breeze with the golf pro after my round and showed him pictures of the progress on the golf green. He offered up top dressing whenever I need it and also said they just got a new cup setting tool and said I can have one of the old ones. Boy this keeps getting better. He said he was also a licensed chemical sprayer and would come over and spray whatever product my green needs. Such nice people in my new area.

  14. Good Monday morning MGS'ers! First official day of spring has me feeling optimistic that warmer weather is right around the corner. Knowing my home state's reputation, though, we are still a good 4-5 weeks out on enjoyable golfing weather (doesn't mean I won't be on the range and course as soon as it's open ). Our oldest has the school spring program today, so only a half day of work for me, which you can't beat on a Monday! Looking forward to rising temps this week as well as the Thursday community call.

  15. Happy Spring all!! ...well on the calendar at least.... Still 30s this morning here... But it's clear and sunny!! Today's fun home projects include finding a plumber for the leaky downstairs toilet (hopefully it just needs a new wax ring and not replacement) and returning an area rug that does not look the same "in person" as online

  16. Good morning on a last of the freezing weather if the forecasters have it right WNY Monday, plenty breezy but opportunity this afternoon to get the road salt off the vehicle before it, well it is not going to freeze again so water on the driveway won't be an issue. Hot coffee in the mug with a couple backups in the thermos, sitting in the captain's seat in front of my 5 screens to launch into the finance world once again, the start of an awesome day

Not a good day today. The weather turned; cloudy, breezy and temps about 10º colder than yesterday. My hands never really got warm. Shot 41/39 for a difficult 80. Spent the day scrambling around the course saving some pars and… not! It didn’t help that the round took 4 hours and 20 minutes; our foursome waiting on nearly every shot. Want spring to get here with warm temps soon!!!

  21. ... LOL, should we avoid shirts, belts, pants, socks and shoes as well? Not that anything I say would put a hole in your troll tent, but most in the US did grow up playing baseball and wearing baseball hats is part of the culture. Girls, boys and everyone in-between. It has nothing to do with loud or conformity but everything to do with keeping the sun out of your eyes when engaged in a sporting activity.

    How'd you play?

Played my local course, which we play 3 times a week. Played a scramble with my wife and another couple. I live outside Phoenix and get most people would like to play all year around, which we do. Everyone thinks Phoenix area courses are always hard and fast. However, we usually play in the morning, and the course is usually soaked and fairly soft. Yesterday, we played in the afternoon. My drives were a good 25 yards longer. We shot 4 under. Fun times. 4+ hour round though. We are used to 3+30 rounds.

  24. Good morning everyone, I did a session with my swing coach yesterday, the same thing keeps creeping up, my body lags and I "fire" my right wrist through impact to make good contact. It drives me crazy that I continue to do this. He gave me a pre shot drill to work in this, kindof a half slow swing and concentrate on moving my body with the swing, not to be done while actually swinging but to get the feeling. Hi Ho Hi Ho, back to work I Go!!!!

  25. Good Monday morning everyone. Looking forward to some warmer temps this week and some rain later to get rid of the snow here. Spring is in the air as many are saying. Thankfully not too busy of a week, but of course plenty of time for that to change.

  26. GM Y'all!!!!! Here we go to save the week!!!!! (Probably too much optimism- but what the ..........) 37* and a slight Kansas breeze from the south- hopefully that'll die down and I'll get to the range after work!!!!!!! For those playing today- nothin but Fairway and greens (don't worry about us working stiffs- we'll get there soon)

    How'd you play?

Pretty poor from me today. My usual score on this 9 hole course is a 39 or 40, so a 44 and 45 aren’t great. My driver was, for once, working well, but my putting was bad. “Only” 6 3 putts, but some of the 2s should have been single putts too. Not doing my regular 10 minutes a day on my putting matt for the last couple of weeks has finally caught up with me. Lesson learned!

  30. I picked up a set of 2017 Taylormade P790s to compare with my Stealth HD irons. I'm playing some solid golf with the HDs since I was fitted for them and becoming extremely fond of them. With that said I wanted to see if I have enough game to shoot a decent round with the P790s. I shot 83 today in some cold windy blow-up ya overalls type weather today with the HDs. I have a friend who is looking for a set of the P790 so after my experiment, I may pass them on to him at the same good price I paid for them ($650.00)

I played sawgrass a week after the 2021 tourney. What a joy. It helped that they cut the rough so the first cut wasn’t too bad. My caddie Kenny was spot on. No gps needed. It was a real treat. Yes I parted the 17th. going back in July this year. Nice that they also have military discounts. also played Beth page black. Another treat with a caddy 3 days after their bar keys tourney a few years ago. No didn’t play from the black. Did play one up from them though. As we did at sawgrass.

  32. ... You can counter most of the flex change by adding weight to the head. Shorter shaft and heavier head can add more mass so it can result in longer drives when combined with hitting the center more often.

    What's Your Go To Hat?

Agreed.. know your audience friend isn't a baseball cap more/less considered a general part of a golfer's attire? I mean, a bucket hat doesn't necessarily scream high class to me either.. but they're definitely cool. I'm sure if you called Joel Dahmen hoity-toity he'd punch you in the nose

  39. Yup I know, I'm being a little tounge in cheek on it. I was very happy with the fittings at the time, but since then I've also worked on my speed and I think my swingspeed is now back to what it was when I used to play a lot more (and was younger!), so its reasonably likely my flex profile etc will have changed since.... The shafts in the old set were all pretty stiff or certainly stiffer than i was more recently fitted for, so I may go for a tweak with my guy.

  40. There are some posts about the Paradym irons and the overwhelming feedback seems to be more distance. Obviously, the is what GI type irons do by reducing spin and other variables associated with the club. keep in mind, graphite isn’t just for slower swing speeds! Graphite shafts come in a wide variety of profiles and weights and can work for even the fastest swinging players.

  43. New model ShotScope X5 watch Get an email announcing the product with an almost spam-y looking "Claim Your Discount" offer .. go, separately, to their website to check it out .. and it looks pretty good! New features include color display, hole layout graphic (the bird's eye overview) and distances into doglegs. Also a round case looks nice.

  44. Blog post on the new X5 dropping this morning. It has some pretty interesting features, specifically AI-enhanced shot detection capabilities. It's important to remember it's a shot tracking device first and foremost that incorporates GPS into a watch. As a GPS watch, I"d say it's nowhere near as cool as the Garmin S62,, but if you want that thing to do shot tracking, you'd been to spend another $300 for the sensors to go along with the $500 just for the watch. As a company, Shot Scope is trying to hit as many price points as possible to get shot tracking or distance measuring into as many hands as possible. I think their lasers are very under-appreciated - and the new model coming in at $150 is going to be pretty sweet (it's technically being released today as well, but they don't want to give it any love until after the Masters - instead focusing on the X5). The LX rangefinder will also be getting an update in the coming year - think smaller with a magnet, but still with the H4 if you prefer to do your shot tracking that way. And not for nothing, I love the fact there are no subscription fees. The stats package is robust enough for my liking, and it doesn't overwhelm me with data. As a watch, I have an Apple watch that I maybe use to one-one thousandth of its capabilities - that's all on the user. It's convenient, but I mostly use it as a timepiece. I'll give this thing a go as a regular watch and see how it goes. Step tracking will be cool and Gavin tells me there will be continuous free firmware updates, so it wouldn't surprise me if a few more functions are added. Full hole mapping is already coming this summer. Any questions - hollah....

11 FW, 10 GIR, 36 putts 42/42:84 Chilly and windy to start but overall I felt like I hit the ball pretty well; better than the score reflects. Distance is way down; I guess due to the cold temps...high today was 45 and before we started my fingers were pretty cold. Short game wasn't great and when I hit the green I seemed to be in a really bad spot which resulted in 5 3-putts.

  50. Well, I am back with another purchase, wait...sorry two new purchases. Went on a day trip to get away from the snow and hit an open driving range to get some proper looks at the ball flight of my new clubs. Went to a couple golf stores around town and stumbled across the Driver I have been eyeing for a good chunk of time to replace my LTD Pro. Please welcome my LTDx LS to the family. Got a couple swings in on the simulator, it needs some weight in the head to get the Swing Weight to where I like it but it feels excellent so far. And the other purchases that got delivered today was my Titleist 54* S Grind with a KBS C-Taper R+. Got to get it gripped before I give a good review of it but in terms of looks it is a 10/10.
