Shankster
I quit golfing 2 summers ago in mid August. Second hole tee shot was a dead SH#!K right through someone's back slider... with my PW. I was playing out of my mind before that in the mid to low 70's... gave it up for one piss poor shot. Edit: I am back now, last year was relearning the basics, can't keep me down. Fixed that flaw, hopefully get back to those low 70's, but if not I'm just gonna enjoy the game and except the fact that I'm just gonna suck sometimes. - Alan silver & black, cksurfdude, wbealsd and 4 others

mrsmith123
I've been borderline giving up before. I'm a 2 hdcp so my abilities are a little different, but back in '08 I qualified for the state amateur. Liberty Ball Markers
I shot an 86 today - not a bad round for me, but I was hitting the ball well. dadivots
Gave it up for 4 years when I blew out my back working on the course. Kept worling on the golf course yet couldnt swing a club with any intent for real fear of adding insult to injury and putting myself under the knife. Found a chiro who said he could fix the blown up disc IF I would stick with him. I did for 3 years while trying to find a golf swing with pretty much numb feet after nine and not quiting for good time after time. Thats how bad I SUCKED. Im talking 4-5 balls to get around suck. Shot an 84 yesterday. Ill take it thanks to the miracle worker who calls himself a chiropractor. 4Left
Oh man, the other night I was at the range to try and sort out my swing after shooting a miserable score in my previous round. I almost left my clubs right at the stall and call my mother in law for knitting lessons. I was hitting not a top but a low shot that was at least a club shorter than normal and just generally felt awful. And then I started chatting with the guy at the stall next to me who was pretty good. He mentioned that he noticed something in my release, gave me a swing thought to try. Boom. Golf clubs came home. Knitting lessons cancelled. Golf is hard. MDGolfHacker
At the range to work out some issues with pitch shots. Shanked/hoseled my way through a small bucket. I blame the back up bag here in Fl. It must be because the lofts and lies on these forged irons haven't been checked in 8 years and the grips are all but disintegrated. Kenny B
I haven't had a decent score in the last couple of weeks, generally mid 80's, when last year I was consistently in high 70's to low 80's. I am attributing it to the weather, and hoping it improves real soon. If it doesn't, then I guess I just suck! Early this week, I thought I found something. I was feeling really connected with all my full shot wedges; they were dialed in and distance was a little better than normal. Starting with the 9i and the longer clubs, it just didn't feel the same. I love the feeling of the wedges, but not the other clubs. Unfortunately, I really need those other clubs. It sucks to play par 4's as 4-shot holes to get there!! dadivots, ole gray, pib and 2 others 5 Quote “We don’t stop playing the game because we get old; we get old because we stop playing the game.”

Glad you are enjoying the sinus surgery pain meds HighFade. Last Friday I tried to sneak in a large bucket with the new wrenches. It was calm when I left my house but a gusting left to right and into wind was huffing by the time I got to the range. This is my first graphite iron setup and although they are fantastic I just could not feel the face in the blustery conditions. I won't go into details but it was the worst kind of horrible. I resorted to hitting trick shots and considered no showing my buddy the next morning and just putting all my clubs on the curb. Trudged up to the first tee ~5 min prior to flight clearance fully expecting the worst. Shot a kinda sloppy even par and the world is tolerable again. Shankster
Haha. Just remembered something. Last year I played in a Memorial Day Scramble. Standing on the tee box (we had 14 guys on one hole, one of the best days of golf I ever had, very fun)... Anyways, we were all standing there when a guy is teeing off, he took a nasty whack at the ball, sounded good, every one said so. But no one could see the ball. It was buried 2" deep 1" in front of his tee. Now THAT is golfing! chershey
I used to let the bad rounds bother me, but now, when I'm playing poorly, I just try to focus on the fact that I'm still hitting some balls well, or just try to convince myself that I didn't have a quad 2 holes ago. With 2 young kids, I now appreciate every round I get to play and I refuse to let some bad shots ruin it for me. Next week, I'm going on a golf trip to Kentucky, at a resort where we are all going to play 36-54 holes a day and I will finally be in golf heaven. silver & black
Okay, so........... Driver was pretty good after the first 2 holes. Chipping was below average. Putting was surprisingly better than expected. Irons are a mess. Everything is/was fat and yanked to the left (righty). I shot 80. Nothing to complain at, but it could have easily been 76 or so. deejaid
I've been just throwing darts at the range with my new old Mac CB92's. I haven't been this accurate with my irons since I played my Dynacraft Pro Cavities 10 years ago. I've been really excited about my game again. Go to the course today and pay for my greens fee and get a warmup bucket. First three balls with the wedge fly beautifully. Then on the 4th...SHANK!....right off the hosel. That's weird I thought. Haven't had that happen in a long time. Next ball...BOOM...another hosel rocket. OK, what's happening. Next 4 or 5 balls, shank. Man, what am I doing? I pull out my hybrid, hit a few nice shots, go to my 4-iron, nice solid contact. 5, 6, 7 irons all flying good. Get to my 8 iron...Shank! 9 iron....Shank! I'm now out of balls and at this point I think to myself, "I can't tee off yet, I can't hit a short iron!" I get another small bucket, make my grip a bit stronger and put my headcover down just on the other side of the ball to make sure I don't hit it. OK, now only 1 out of 3 are Shanks. I'll take my chances. I tee off and am having a good round. Hit the turn and after a bogey on 10 reel off 4 straight pars. I realize I'm 7 over after 14. Man, I might break 80 the first time out with my new old sticks if I can keep this up, maybe get a birdie for good measure. Good drive on 15, and then it happens. Second shot, 8 iron from the fairway...SHANK. OK, now just a wedge...Shank! OK, just get on the green with your SW, it's a 15 yard chip...SHANK! Took a 7 on the par 4, 15th. After a par on 16, I go bogey, bogey to finish up with an 84. I had a 115 yard approach shot on 18 that seemed like the hardest shot in my life. Man. I was scared to hit that shot. Anyway, sorry for the long winded response. I feel you man. And I just wanted to type SHANK a bunch to get it out of my system.
