Wedgie
I'm sure the debate about teeing it up or not on a par 3 has been debated over and over on this forum. This isn't about that. I never tee it up on 3's but for whatever reason I did last time out. What I noticed is I was a club longer when teeing it up. Question is is this normal? Is it a reflection of my ball striking from the turf? Others experience this? Any input is appreciated. revkev
We've certainly had this discussion but honestly I don't ever recall anyone saying they are a full club longer off the tee. A bit longer sure although that might also be longer carry similar total distance because cleaner contact should bring more spin. I'd be concerned about my swing if it were a full club consistently. Maybe you flushed it down wind and it was an anomaly. Jack Nicklaus says always use a tee if you are allowed - that's good enough for me. The only exception I've ever made was into a strong wind up to a mid iron. 00sportsman
For all the stupid crap I might do on the golf course, I do take advantage of teeing it up on par 3's with few exceptions. I find, like you did Wedgie, that I'm noticeably longer when I'm teed up. I'm not sure it's a full club, but there's no doubt about the difference. deejaid
I always tee it up on par 3's. Like Rev said, I heard Jack Nicklaus say tee it up whenever you are allowed. I don't notice it going further though. 160 yards is my 7 Iron whether it's from the middle of the fairway or the tee box. I don't know if any of you guys do this, but I only use a broken tee that I find on the tee box on all par 3's. When I walk onto the tee box the first thing I do is find a used, broken tee. They work perfect since it is teed low. I never use my own unbroken, new tee. Charli
Yeah good point Rp58 I may have to start. I just roll the ball on the box and hit like in the fairway. Peanut05
I've always teed it up on Par 3s for the very reason that I feel I make better contact. Shankster
A tee'd up iron shot is in essence making a “flier†lie? Meaning you'll catch it a little north? I'm probably wrong, but this was my logic behind it. I know my blank goes blank off the deck, why the blank would I add a variable. I have a very level swing after watching video. 00sportsman
Always. Same on holes where you hit anything but driver off the tee. Find a stubby, use it once. I always use a tee on par 3s but I don't "tee it up". I tee it flush with the ground like giving myself a really good lie. I do the same thing. It may be a small fraction up, but basically it's just giving yourself a perfect lie. There is one hole where I hit it off the deck, and that's because it's so short, with zero room behind, that being short is much better than being long. Other than that, it's teed up just a bit. And always, I use a broken tee lying around. I usually have a couple in my pocket, in fact. I always try to remember that I'm not good enough to get mad! BIG STU
As usual I am the odd man out. Depends on the shot and what it dictates for me. On short par 3s that dictate a PW 9 or 8 iron I do not tee up. Some 7 iron shots I do not tee up but always tee up with a mid or long iron. As a footnote on holes I use the 3 wood or hybrid on ( when I carry a hybrid) I do it Laura Davies style as in taking the club and bumping up the turf for a tee. TR1PTIK
It's always a mixed bag whether or not I tee it up on par 3's, but if I do it's never with a short iron or wedge unless the turf is just awful. I remember reading about a test done years ago that concluded anything shorter than an 8 or 9 iron won't really benefit from teeing it up, but you can pick up distance with the longer clubs. PING Apologist #9
I always have a tee on par-3's, and like many have stated the level of mine is mainly even with the turf...maybe a smidge higher. If on longer par-3's of 180 or beyond, I need my 5w and I've found that a tee just above turf level by maybe 1/4" or so is perfect for me. Distance-wise for me is that I really do not see any difference from what I would normally hit with any given club. My thoughts are that the tee gives me a perfect lie and a good clean strike should yield the true nominal distance of that stick without disturbance from the earth. Off the deck even if you're "chunky" even just a smidge, I imagine you'd see a shorter shot every time.
