Thinking about two sets of wedges- regular bounce for playing at home, and low bounce for when playing at my home away from home at the Prairie a club and Landmand - the lies are so tight there. But will wait and see what the fitters say… Good luck and I hope you have a great experience. I am doing the same with my wedges as most of the time low bounce is the right thing for me but depending on time of year, conditions as well as travel, a higher bounce option is better. Popular Post WaffleHouseTour
My daughter and I made our way up to The 70 in Sycamore. Had two hours booked, and tried to get us both fit in that time. That caught Keith a bit by surprise but he was very cool about it. Gave my daughter as much a lesson as a fitting, but came up with a good option for her. I got fit into the 699Pro v2. Tried out the 659 CBs, and hit them well, and they really felt great, its where my heart wanted to go. But went with my head, and went with the numbers - I hit the 699's higher (which was a goal) more consistently, better decent angle, faster, and better smash factor consistently. Currently game a 6-GW plus two hybrids, going with a 5-GW and one hybrid. I'm moving out of a set of one length irons, so I'm hoping for more consistency in gapping - and better gapping at the bottom. One thing Keith made me acutely aware of, I'm going to need to stand a little farther from the ball - I keep wanting to get too close, but thats a force of habit. Bought two sets of wedges - he put me in the JB wedges - got a regular set, and then also a low bounce set. I play a lot of my rounds in Nebraska out at the Prairies Club and Landmand - and it's so firm and tight I thought I'd give low bounce a try. And they were on sale... Went back on forth on shafts, trying to keep it light to help create the speed - so went with some stiff (I'm currently in MMT Regular) KBS graphite. Felt like a kid in the candy store. So many clubs around, so many options, two simulator bays, putting area, very cool vibe. Couple people walked in off the street just looking to get some gear. They clearly have something going thats working for them. Told me two weeks - so will share some photos when they arrive. Oh, and if you go, take some pennies for the parking meter... Popular Post WaffleHouseTour
Found this waiting outside my door yesterday… Immediately went to the backyard to figure out distances until my Mevo+ went haywire. As expected the short irons are a tad shorter and the long irons a tad longer. All fine. After last weeks story about driving irons I called them up and added a 3U to the order. That may have been a mistake, but we’ll see over time. Im anxious to try the low bounce set of wedges - but that’ll have to wait a few weeks until I’m out in Nebraska. Hobert
So my "very good" 699U arrived yesterday. It appears that Sub 70 continues to be exceptionally conservative in rating their used clubs. WaffleHouseTour
I’m liking them. They do look great don’t they…. I’ve had several people ask me about them. Observation #1 - my impulse decision to get a 3U was a poor one. It’s in the garage. But the hybrid is awesome. I just can’t get the 3U in the air. Interestingly I hit the regular 5 iron great and I could never get my old 5i in the air and it sat in the garage. So I’m pretty sure this is about the archer and not the arrow. Not sending it back - when I have time I’ll work on it. Observation #2 - as expected the longer irons -7,,6,5 go a bit farther and the shorter irons L,S,G,P,9 go a bit shorter. I switched from Cobra one length… Still trying to the gaps figure out. I still have a pretty big gap between my S and my G - so maybe something new and bent is on the horizon - would just have to make room for it some how. Observation #3 - the low bounce wedges may have been a mistake - this archer has had trouble w those arrows. Again, it’s all in the swing. My swing may just need more bounce. Have another trip to the sand hills later this month and will try again. In the mean time, very happy w the regular bounce wedges. Observation #4 - a well struck shot is a really well struck shot. I’m getting the trajectories I was hoping for. I’m still learning ball position in my stance. But I’m very happy w performance Observation #5 - my only complaint , I’ve had them about 5 weeks and this is my S and 7 iron face. They’ve looked like this right out of the gate. I don’t know if it’s from sand, sand on range balls or what. I found it surprising - I thought they had figured out some way of keeping the color in the clubs better, and longer. I’m a little CDO about stuff so it bothered me, but doesn’t impact performance of course. I dunno, just had a different expectation and perhaps that was an unreasonable one. Observation #6 - I’m happy enough I’m wanting to add either another hybrid or a 3 or 5 wood (mixing up my current set base on the performance of the new 5i and 5h), maybe a driver - but the one guy in Iowa who has a fitting cart is having trouble getting parts to do a fitting… so I’m waiting on that. Hope to check that soon. Observation #7 - Arccos says I’ve improved by 0.4 strokes in my Approach play (I’m -3.9 to a scratch) - so it’s a small improvement in the weakest area of my game. Handicap has hovered in the 7.9 - 8.1 range where it has been all summer. So I haven’t suddenly gotten worse - and I attribute most of my challenges to losing control of the driver - hence the “surely a new club will cure that” crazy mentality. (My Skillest coach has other ideas…) I am glad to hear there are plenty of positives so far. On the club face look for the SW and 7, I think you are correct with some of the sand, especially on range balls. The only one I have that is black is my 4U and it looks great but as you can imagine it doesn't get a ton of use, nothing like a SW or 7. As for the LB, I have a 54 TAIII in low bounce and I love it, but my conditions in AZ are much different, we have some truly hard ground and the LB is needed so maybe you just haven't played on the right course yet. For what it's worth, I did a 4W and I really like that. Most 3W's are too low for me and I prefer a little more loft and I don't really need that extra distance. I suppose if I really want to I can strengthen the loft or soften the loft to make it almost a 3 or 5 if I need to. Glad to hear you are liking them and as you know, Sub70 is committed in making sure you have a great experience with them. David George
I've been gaming the 949X four and seven woods and the 659CB irons, five to approach, for about 10 months now, expertly fitted and constructed by Stephen at Fit For Purpose Golf, and I am delighted with them. Giving very serious consideration to replacing my Mizuno ES21s with Sub 70s. A conversation to be had with Stephen in the near future. GolfSub70 1 Quote Interesting - me? Jacob10
Just ordered the 699 v2 Utility 3 iron. Hopefully it gets here fast to try it out. I have a large gap between 3 wood and 4 iron, hoping this will help. GolfSub70 1 Quote Jacob
