are knockdown and pitch shots the same thing?

Or if not what is there differences?

To me, a pitch shot is a relatively short shot using something similar to full-swing mechanics.  A knockdown is generally a longer shot where the set-up and swing is altered a bit to produce a lower ball flight.  Generally, knockdown shots are done using a bit more club than the distance might require, and slightly reduced swing speed, both of which tend to produce lower ball flight and reduced backspin.  A pitch shot might be done using the full loft of the club, and might be intended to produce significant backspin.

Am I right in saying from highest to lowest ball flight it would be pitch>chip>knockdown?

No.

a chip is something that happens from just off the green. Generally it is a shot that rolls more than it carries.

A pitch is a shot that happens a little further from the green. This shot carries more than a chip and sometimes, but not always, it carries more than it rolls out

a knock down shot is simply a lower trajectory shot with just about any club. One can hit a knockdown hybrid from 200 yards out or a knockdown pw from 80 yards out.  Despite the lower trajectory a knock down shot is still executed to carry a majority of the total distance

I consider the following:

Chip - the bump and run. A very low shot played from just off the green.

Pitch - a high lofted shot from within 30 yards of the green. Also can be played from just off the green, see Harvey Penick's definitions.

Knockdown - a full swing shot meant to keep the ball low in windy conditions. Example from 150 yards would be a 9i in normal conditions, but I am into the wind, so I hit a 7i easy to reduce spin and keep the ball lower.
