Do you freeze your balls?

Hahaha I'm sorry but as an old Army Vet there is no getting around "freeze your balls" and winter ops for days on end in sometimes blizzard conditions and snow deeper than road signs.

Seriously though, in an effort to get this on the right track, cold is used cryogenically to compress solids on the atomic level so that the chemical bonds align and voids are removed.  Temperatures are down on the 3 to 5 degrees Kelvin range which is about as low as can be achieved on Earth due to the tendency for heat to find its way into every space it can reach.  Then the temperature is raised slowly on the order of a few degrees an hour which can take days to get to room temperature.  It is an expensive technique but reportedly effective to render superior quality engine blocks, musical instruments, precision tools, and other such things.

Realistically, SWMBO is never going to allow me to put my balls in her freezer.  That doesn't sound good either.

About the closest I have ever come is leaving my bag in the trunk through the winter months when I lived in the PNW (I was young and stupid... temp swings from -10 to 104 through the year... clubs were in the trunk the whole time... I wonder why my grips never lasted haha).  Also, @tony@CIC does the golf ball shaped ice cube tray in my freezer count?

Funny you say that because I knew people that used to microwave the old titleist balls that had the liquid core. They said they did it for about 5 to 10 seconds to make the ball more lively. I never tried it so, not sure if it really worked.

Interesting article, but I tend to store my balls at room temperature during those times I'm not out on the golf course. Other than that, I can't keep balls from the same box for a long time. I tend to use the woods and bodies of water as a long term storage option.

Very haha cool fact, buuuut.... Don't think many golfers have that chem lab equipment at home....

Also- wasn't there an MGS article in the recent past about the .. negative .. effect of temperature changes on golf balls..?

If I recall (big if ) .. going from hot to cold, or vice versa (..and within the *normal* temperature operating range of humans @EasyPutter ) could start to cause a chemical decomposition of the materials.

An interesting postulation and valid because the materials of the golf ball are primarily petroleum based. 

"Normal" temperatures are a pleasantly vague approximation of human habitation. 
That "term" of course would never be used in the same sentence as anything corresponding to yours truly
