I have 2 sets of what I call the Teardrop CBs which as you pointed out are no longer conforming. I guess you know the soft feel comes from being Kyoei forged. I know my bud who was the KZG dealer here closed up shop and retired some 5 years ago now. In the past the dealers had some supply and problems with company management and that caused a lot of problems in the past. A lot of independent dealers dropped the line because of that. I think the only KZG dealer we have in SC is Haas ( yes those ones) Family Golf Center in Greenville SC. In fact since I have went to graphite shafts I am thinking on ordering a set of Recoil 60 g seniors and reshafting one of those sets. As far as being "conforming" I could care less I do not play stipulated comps or big money matches anymore. I only play the Shootouts on Saturday at my club and just joined the Men's leagues. No one cares in either one what anyone plays. I thought it was a bunch of bs when they took square grooves and belly putters away from Amateurs because the tour pros gained a perceived advantage. The pros talk about controlling spin being a key in all shots so square grooves adding spin didn't give them an advantage. We lost out on stopping power on greens because of optics on televised golf. It is stupid to impose rules in a game because the best players in the world can do things way better than the rest of us! The rules of golf need to give everyone playing an equal opportunity. Let's be real if we are playing in a group and decide we are going to play all hazards as lateral for pace of play. We are not cheating. groups that don't do this are where you find the cheating. We play lift clean and replace if it is cart path only, if it is to wet to drive on it is lift clean and replace in the fairways. I started with a set of Wilson DynaPower as a teenager that my dad bought and never used. Kept those all the way through college and then bought a set of Tommy Armor 845's. Those lasted until 2019 when I finally broke down and bought a set of Srixon 585's. Those are still in my bag. I've gone through a few more drivers than clubs. From a wooden McGregor to a Yonex, to a Callaway Diablo, a Bombtech, and now a Ping G425 I'm similar to you, 3 sets in 30 years. I think a 8-10 year break in my 30s probably kept 1 or 2 iron sets and a set of woods from being added to my list. bluesmandan76
Let's see... I think 11. 1987: Some Ping Eye 2 knock offs... Tour Model III I think. (hand me downs from my Dad) 1999? Ram Laser FX Forged (also hand me down from Dad). First set to shoot under par. 2000? First purchased set: Peerless Palmer blades. Didn't mesh (reg. shaft, really LOW CoG) 2001: NEW Titleist 681's (Loved 'em and used them for a decade). 2012? Used Cleveland CG16 Tours. 2014? A used set of Ping Eye 2's. Didn't mesh with them. 2014? A used set of Taylormades I hated because of the whippy KBS Tour shaft. 2014? I think a set of used Callaways... like the TM's I didn't keep them long. 2015? Mizuno MP4's. 2018: Mizuno MP18MMC 2020: Mizuno MP20MB The sets that I've LIKED were the 681's, CG16 Tours, MP4's and MP20MB's. All of them running S300 shafts. So clearly a preference for forged blades, with the CG16 Tours being the cavity back exception which I played for a few years when I just couldn't play regularly and so couldn't hit the sweet spot on my 681's. But as soon as I could start playing regularly again, I got back into blades. Tried the MP18MMC's, but went back to blades. I did like the shaft in them (LZ 6.0's) I would play one of the new TaylorMade irons with the foam injection... they feel pretty good for cavity backs. JoeB1
I had a senior men’s Ram starter set that I was told to throw away by a pro. I moved on to my Ping G30s for 8 years. Now I’ve jumped to a mixed bag of Mizuno irons, Ping hybrids and woods, and Cleveland wedges. There is a random bag of McGregor Jack Nicklaus forged irons in the garage that I typically use at our par 3 and executive courses. Not too many sets, but I know there will be more. It seems my gear changeouts have gone up as I’ve been in the game longer. richk9holes 1 Quote Joe Link to comment

Down here at my home course we do not have pristine fairways so we do roll the ball in Mens League play and of course in the weekly cheat fest uggh Shootout. I will say in all fairness and I have said it before 99% of all of those that play the game play by the rules of their own group and could care less what the USGA The R&A or the PGA Tour for that matter say. A lot of courses here adopt a "local rule" especially in Tourist Golf season making all hazards and OBs lateral for the pace of play. Most courses here made again a local rule and disregarded the Anchor ban because a lot of senior league players have bad backs and such. I can remember when I played a local mini tour we played by USGA Tournament rules with like drops on the tee side of the hazard etc. I know every pre event players meeting we always had a rules sheet and the tournament director would remind the guys like " all of you who play here all the time left on like #15 is not a lateral it is OB as in ( at the time) stroke and distance" But most recreational players do not know the real rules nor do they care they just agree to play by whatever their group decides. I guess now days I fall into that catagory since I do not play stipulated events any more or a GHIN handicap. Our league does their own handicaps for our play. mackdaddy 1 Quote Driver ---- Callaway Big Bertha Alpha Speeder 565 R flex- 5W TM V-Steel Fubuki 60r--- 7W TM V-Steel UST Pro Force Gold 65R----- 9 W TM V Steel TM MAS stiff---- Irons 2015 TM TP CB Steel Fiber 95 R--- GW Callaway Mack Daddy 2 52* shaft unknown junk pile refugee. That was part of my plan in retirement. To play a different set everyday putters and wedges included. Yep you know how that went ... I know you have owned waaaaaay more drivers, wedges and especially putters than me. I have really only used 3 putters for my entire golfing career. Wilson 8802, Bobby Grace e 6330 and my current Cleveland 11S. Although I have been looking at the Scotty Phantom 5.5 for awhile now so if I find a bargain on one I'll pick it up. ... Irons have always been my chili's heel and to be fair quiet a few of those sets were not paid for from either being on staff when teaching or submitted for reviews. It was also a different time pre 2000 when we could buy a new or mint used set of irons and turn them around for a slight profit, what we paid or a small acceptable loss. At the moment I own 7 sets so more than many here in a lifetime: MIM Tours, Forged Tecs, 588TTs, T100Ss, P760's, Z Forged MBs and Lynx MC Forged. Looking back I have never owned a set of Callaway irons. I would guess somewhere around 60 - 70 so faaaar too many to remember but here are some: Spalding Executives Spalding Tour Edition MB Tiger Shark Piranhas Bob Toski Custom CB Tiger Shark Great White Maxfli Revolution Black Dot Maxfli A10 Tour Maxfli VHL Maxfli VHL Mid Size Tommy Armour 845 Tommy Armour 845 Mid Size Tommy Armour 845 MB Golfsmith 600MB Golfsmith 600CB Tour Stage MR23 US Spec Tour Stage Z101 Nike Forged MB Cobra SS Forged Cobra Amp Forged Cobra Fly Z Cobra Forged Tour Mizuno MP33 Mizuno MP63 Mizuno MP59 Titleist 962 Titleist 690MB Titleist 690.MB Titleist 762B Titleist AP2 Titleist 775 CB Titleist 735 Titleist DCI 990 Titleist 962 Wilson Staff MB Wilson FG51 Wilson 45s Wilson RM Forged Srixon's I701 Tour Srixon Z745 Taylor Made Burner Tour Taylor Made 300 Forged Taylor Made Firesole Tour Taylor Made RAC TP MB Forged Taylor Made MC Taylor Made P790 Cleveland TA1 Tour Edge ZO MB Hogan 99 Apex Ping i10s (for 1 day ) Not counting a couple sets of demo irons from Tour Edge Golf, I have (9) sets of irons right now that I could potentially use myself, and I will have (10) sets once I finish reshafting a 2022 set of Tour Edge Exotics C722 irons that I now technically own because their 2023 sets are now available: 1.) Adam’s Idea Forged cavity backs 2, 3, & 4) three sets of Tour Edge Exotics irons - EXS220, C721s (my gamers for the last three years, and E721s 5 & 6) two sets of Maltby forged irons - a blended set of TS1 and TS2s & a set of black PTM Forged “players cavity backs” 7.) Sub 70 mixed set of 699/699 Pro irons 8 & 9) two sets of ERG Forged irons built as demos - one set is +1” in length and was intended for a customer, as were the Maltby PTM set. Soon, I will have a set of 2022 Exotics C722 irons with new XCaliber Rapid Taper 95-R graphite shafts in them, as the process of reshafting them began over the weekend. Beginning in the early to mid 1980s, I have easily owned 4x that many sets of irons — probably many more than that; the most memorable ones were: Golden Ram Blades (my first real set) A couple sets of Hogan Apex blades (the Redlines were the best of the bunch) Several sets of Golfsmith irons that I built when I worked there in the 1990s through early 2000s Mizuno JPX 800 and JPX 825 sets Callaway Apex and Apex Pros Ping i3s Mizuno JPX 900 (among the best of the bunch) I have surely forgotten about as many sets as I listed above. EDIT: I forgot about a couple sets of Taylor Made irons, as well as some Titleist sets. Also, how could I not count the Cobra King Forged Tec X irons that are currently in my bag?
