Sand "Greens"

New to the site but got wondering how many members have played on sand greens? I learned golf on them over 50 years ago. You sure learn to chip on them. I still know of 3 courses that have them. The true definition of Pasture Pool.

It's been a long time, but I have family in Saskatchewan Canada that i have visited and they have several courses around them which still have sand greens. It's more to save water etc and although not ideal it just makes for a different golfing experience.

Yea NW SD is scariest of water so sand greens were the thing. Made good money in my youth  as a green keeper during a tournament raking your assigned green between 4 somes

Never played on any, but top dressed greens after aeration are bad enough. I couldn't imagine all sand.

Yea putting sucks but you do learn to chip

There is a 9 hole course in Metaline Falls, WA north of Spokane with sand greens that was built around 1935.

Yep. There is private community in Annapolis, MD called Sherwood Forest that has a 9-hole course with small sand greens. You quickly learn you need to lay up a few yards short in order for your ball to stop on the green/sand.
