I did ZX5 MKII (P-8) /ZX4MKII (7-5) combo set and love it.   I had the ZX4's adjusted one degree weak to have a seamless transition.   I honestly can't see the difference at address --I'm sure if I tried I could, but this is a nice combo set up.   I have an "unofficial review" in this forum section if you would like to reference it.

Thank you!!!

You also illustrated a pint that I constantly make. Communication is a two way street. At times I or our principal get accused of not communicating. While we aren’t perfect the reality is that you could accuse our target audiences of not listening, too. 🙂

Yesterday,  a few things happened.  I had my 9i bent 1° strong,  8i 1° weak.  That fixed the minor gaping issue.

But while i was at the golf shop,  i saw the were selling last years Cleveland Wedges (rtx zipcore) for $100 each.

So I added a 50 and and 58 to my quiver.

Then yesterday afternoon i went and played 18 with one of my neighbors.  Having 8 new clubs in the bag was a but entertaining.

The zx's were really good.  I didn't miss a green with them until the 16th hole.  Just great feeling,  great performance.  They were $$

But... inside 100y i was a bit of a disaster.  My old Wedges were a 52/56 split. Moving to a 50/58 had me hitting short/ long on everything.  Really should have practiced with the Wedges before heading out.  But no worries.  i hit them well,  just never the distance i needed.

I haven't ever gamed a club more than 56°,  so the 58° was of particular hilarity on my distance control with it.

Currently the biggest thing I'm noticing between these and my previous set is the distance variance if I really step on it. I'm not sure if that comes down to the shafts or the club heads, but I could get a 20y flier with my last set from the middle of the fairway, so far i haven't seen that with the ZX's.

I'm sure after my next round I'll post some pictures of my triple HIO day.  I have that confidence in them.

That's so interesting I never get a flyer out of the fairway with the D7 forged's.  I do on occasion out of the rough but I'm normally able to read that lie when it comes up.  The fairways that I play on are very tight though.  I sometimes have visitors from up north that have trouble adjusting to them particularly chipping around the greens or with wedges.

I likely used the wrong phrase,  but same general idea.  my stock 9i with the D7 forged is 135y. If i try to hit it 140 with a more aggressive swing,  i can.  But sometimes that swing turns it into a 160y shot. It might be a shaft thing more than a clubhead thing.  But I've had to club up and swing smooth with the D7s to keep distances a expected.

With the ZXs so far,  i find i can be more aggressive without that bonus 20y shot coming in from the top rope.  again might just be recoils vs steelfiber. But it's a noticeable difference.

You should try the sets AW (51*) in the ZX7.  I really like mine in the ZX5.

I'm surprised you went from 52/56 to 50/58. I use Cleveland wedges and have a 48/52/56 split now (because I stopped my ZX5s at PW) and when I go grab new ones I'll go 50/56. Never been one to use wedges higher than 56.

Yeah. It was more impulse then well thought out. I wanted the 50 to align better with the set PW at 46. And with my previous 52/56 spliti used my 52 for everything that wasn't a deep bunker or a extreme short sided effort.  which basically were open faced 56s. So my thinking was i would keep using the 50 as my most everything club,  and the 58 if i needed it.

Also,  it gives me the option of adding a 54 if i think i need it and slotting in nicely. I only have 11 clubs in my bag,  so that remains an option.

The ZX5 have some great pop too them. I'm glad I went with them at the top end. The ZX7 distances match those of my previous D7 Forged irons through 8i, the ZX7 7i is a couple yards longer.

Then the nitrous boost of the ZX5's kick in.

nitro-fast.gif.25ecdb8a68f127f448ce38520eea1c07.gif

The ZX5 6i and 5i are noticeably longer than the D7s. Like many,  my gaps started to bunch up in those longer irons.

D7F carry: 7i 162, 6i 171, 5i 180.

ZX7: 7i 164

ZX5: 6i 175, 5i 187

Maybe the ZX7s would have done the same,  but I'm happy with the 5s here.

As for any other real differences,  blade length and top line are basically identical. Badging is very similar and they are hard to tell apart in the bag.

Really,  the thicker sole of the ZX5 is the only big visual difference. It might look big here,  but that is really only in comparison to the ZX7s. The ZX5s soles are effectively the same as the D7F.

  • 2 weeks later...

I've gotten in 2 rounds this week.  Really happy with my iron play.  The ZX5s are really good,  incredibly confidence inspiring.  I hit a couple really pure 5i's on today's round that had more height and carry than i would have expected with my previous set.

I've mention that this year has been a down year for my golf game,  but today turned some of that around.  This was my first round of the year that i posted that was lower than my handicap.

Added in final testing thoughts on this set of clubs. The TLDR is that you should try these out during your next fitting because they are special.

There is so much info out there on them between YT, the main blog and the greater web.

If you have any questions that one of the above sources didn't answer for you and I might be able to, just let me know and I will do what I can.

Just read this string and wanted to chime in.  Currently playing a combo of ZX5/ZX7.   Mine are prior generation.

Last year I went in to get fitted for new irons.  Was playing AP3s and really didnt like them at all.  They were harsh feeling and had bad hot spots.  I could hit a 9 iron 145 or 165.  Wasn't considering the Srixons at all.  Fitter gave me the ZX5 to try and it was over at the point.

Ordered a full set of ZX5s because I didnt think my swing was ready for the ZX7s ( just getting back to playing full time after rupturing my left Achillies).  Was hitting the ZX5s very well and loved them.  My only complaint was the wider sole on the lower irons.  Felt like that inhibited making clean contact consistently.

When Srixon put the prior gen ZX7s on sale, I ordered the 6-PW.  It is unbelievable how good these irons are.  I did have them all bent 1 degree strong and do not have any gaps between my 5-6 irons.  My distant control has never been better on my approach shots and they feel so pure.

I did play around with some driving irons this year and nothing was able to beat out my ZX5 4 iron.  That club is money off the tee box on tight par 4s.

These clubs definitely do not get the publicity they should.

This,  so this with the ZX7s. They are so good.

I was looking at a set of ZX5 MkII's today and noticed that the tungsten weight on the toe was not there... but it is still a feature on the ZX7's 🤔. I found that kind of interesting and wonder why they dropped it on the ZX5?  I've reached out to Dunlop Sports to see if they can answer the question.

@fixyurdivot you aren't wrong,  i just looked and there isn't the obvious tungsten on the toe.

But they are still great.

Adding weight at the toe has become a pretty common feature on many of the PD and GI offerings in recent years.  On a side note, unlike the set-screw look so many competitors use, I absolutely loved the fine craftsmanship look in how Srixon incorporates the feature.  Anyway, it just seems odd that they would not have it on the PI/GI model.  I'll share any feedback I get from Srixon.

I look forward to hitting both the ZX5 and ZX7 MkII's this coming winter when demo days return 👍.

I still have not received my irons.  When I reached out to Dunlop I was told that the anticipated date is now September 23rd.  I went ballistic (well as ballistic as I get - I do have a title to uphold after all.)  When I paid for and ordered the clubs I was told 2-3 weeks.

Long story short it turns out that they are out of A wedge heads.  Why they didn't reach out to me with that information is beyond me.  Bottom line my other irons ship the end of the week, and the A wedge will come, when it comes.  That's just fine withe me - I will keep my Wilson in the bag until then, no big deal.

Man was I upset for a day though.  And reading this thread is making me so anxious to get these and start hitting them.  BTW on the 4 iron I notice that even some of their guys who game blades on tour have the MK 5 4 iron in their bags.  So it must be something special.  I won't be gaming that, you'd have to wrestle my 7 wood out of my cold, dead hands but for those who like long irons and want some help I think these may be worth a look.

Taylor Made Stealth 2 10.5 Diamana S plus 60  Aldila  R flex   - 42.25 inches

SMT 4 wood bassara R flex, four wood head, 3 wood shaft

Ping G410 7, 9 wood  Alta 65 R flex

Srixon ZX5 MK II  5-GW - UST recoil Dart 65 R flex

India 52,56 (60 pending)  UST recoil 75's R flex

Evon roll ER 5 32 inches

It's our offseason so auditioning candidates - looking for that right mix of low spin long, more spin around the greens - TBD

I'll add, that looking at the top lines, they meet that target.  Behind the ball there isn't anything there to tell me that I've got a zx5 mkii or a zx7 mkii in hand. To top line and blade length are basically the same.  Which makes the ZX5 MKII look smaller than others in its category,  and the ZX7 MKII look slightly larger in its category.

On the bottom,  the ZX5 MKII's have a noticeably larger sole.

Thanks - and my ballistic is not like most people's but I can be professionally insistent.  I do run a church/school with a 3 million dollar budget and close to 40 employees so at times I don't have a choice.
