Ready golf, or out to in?

I assumed ready golf was just the standard outside of tournament play. Just helps things move along. Plus if you're at your ball and ready to go and the other players aren't to their ball back, why wait? Definitely should have let you hit onto the green though, they essentially slowed things down preventing you from getting on the green. Should have let you hit then while you were walking to the green they could have holed out to continue ready golf and keep pace of play up

So a brief update of sorts. Ive taken the advice here to heart, and its well appreciated!

The few people that I play with regularly have been great to play with. We maintain PoP and still find time to enjoy ourselves. If someone is on the green, they mark their ball, and step away from the line of play for those who are away. We all putt out to in and move on.

We got paired with a random the other week and off the tee box he explained that he likes to play fast. And boy oh boy did he! He was a 3hcp, and well.... we arent... not even close

2 of us were short of the green, notified him we were playing up, and he was directly in the way of my partner. Instead of backing away he started putting. On the 2nd hole, he teed off first, then the rest of us. Of course he was the longest. He grabbed 3 clubs from the cart and goes 40 yards past us to his ball. By the time we got to our second shots, he was playing onto the green, and he very nearly got pinged with my shot.

Let's just say by the 3rd hole,  he skipped ahead to goodness knows which hole,  and we didn't see him again.

So I am all for ready golf, but there has to be a line drawn on etiquette too, right?

Here's a picture of the 3 of us at the end of our round. Im guessing that Mystery man must have been at home by then... 

Oh, we finished 18 holes in just shy of 4 hours. Course has a recommendation of 4h20m.

I’d agree that he was being a bit over the top. Him running out in front of you to hit his drive and 2nd actually slows everything down because now you have to wait for him to hit and get out of the way. My friends and I will do it so that if you hit further you walk up to be in line with your ball, but not in the way, while the people away are hitting and selecting their clubs. That way we aren’t all waiting for the shorter hitters to play then going to our ball and assessing our shot. We’ll asses our shot and get ready while they play heir shot. This way once they have hit we can immediately go to our ball play and approach the green at the same time.

All of the time should be ready golf unless you are playing in a tournament.  The regular groups I play with will get 18 holes in 3 hours to 3:45.  A real mixed group handicaps between 5 and 20, but everyone moves.  Everyone has time to look over putts and set up shots, but no lolly gagging.  Also why I prefer to play early morning, so I don’t get the crazy guy who doesn’t know golf ediquite, or the players who take 20 minutes a hole….

Honestly, I think there is a happy medium if done well. Casual golf should be played as ready golf as much as possible. TJ ere are times when that isn’t possible if playing means being in the way or obstructing as you described above. But 80% of the time it’s really easy to play when ready rather than wait. On the greens is probably the only time I don’t play ready golf unless someone says to do so out loud. For example when someone takes multiple shots get out of a bunker, that person should tell the group to go ahead and putt while they take and collect themselves after swearing fest that likely followed. Playing in more than 4:30 is always caused by people not understanding, or not caring, how to be ready quickly. It can also be caused if a group has one or two guys spraying balls all over the place on every hole.

Well,  this describes us, but we still play under the course requirements...

, I am a starter for a local golf course and I can’t began to tell you how many people are insistent on playing the tips , no matter what their skills are ( or lack thereof). Seriously, I mean a 500 yard par 5 , it’s usually a popped up or skulled tee ball ,200 yards or less , then they are 300 yards from the green waiting for the “green to clear “ and predictably hit it dead right into the water or yank it left out of bounds , another -200 yard shot , then after 6-7 shots finally get it on the green only to 3 or 4 putt , . How are you getting your “moneys worth “or most importantly having any fun at all ?

I recently started a very pt job as a starter _Marshall too. For the regulars I just offer course maintenance updates and have a good round. For the new to course players, or the more excited groups I go a bit more in depth to ensure everyone enjoys themselves but doesn't muck up the tee time schedule.

This is definitely one of my pet peeves. Even as a 3 handicap I rarely play the tips. I tend to play around 6500 yards but average around 6200-6300. Playing 6800-7200 yards can be fun but I’ll only do it if it’s slow on the course and I don’t have to worry about slowing anyone down behind me.

I think this is the perfect answer. In my group, ready golf on the tee is only not observed is someone made a birdie or better on the previous hole. Otherwise, swing away if ready.

We only had 7 playing on Tuesday…. In all honesty a couple probably should have pasted on the round. We played an order of the threesome first and then the foursome. We all had individual carts. We usually match up the better players to go first. The time for a round is usually about 4.5 hrs…. We are all old; in a foursome it usually takes all eight eyes or however many, the 4 of us actually have that work  to follow ball flight. Group effort is needed for lost balls. I was in the foursome, we finished in 5 hours and change. We had one incident with an insulin pump and another issue with a colostomy bag. Yeah, not only are we old, we are decrepit. 
   We will let almost any golfer or group that comes up behind us go through. If someone hits into us, hell would have to freeze over twice before they are playing through us.. Yeah, not only are we old and decrepit but also cantankerous and stubborn as the aforementioned hell.

Well put!  Curious though,  how did you each end up with a cart ? As a starter,  Im forced to pair singles that show up in close tee times.

Private club.. There were/are combination of the club’s  carts and private carts. Unless there is a huge, huge tournament and outside carts are not available to bring in for the event, players then have to double up.  The single individual cart use is the norm over 95% of the time.  I pay $ 105 a month for unlimited use of a club owned /leased cart. We are an old bunch but still are placated by ownership/management on tee times

Ready golf for casual rounds should be the rule. However, once on the green, there is a possible advantage to play farthest from the hole play first, in order. This allows those closer to the hole to possibly get a read on their putt. I consider this to be a big advantage and should be adhered to barring extreme circumstances (someone is dilly-dallying with there equipment or catching a phone call ( happens to the best-and worst- of us).
