New member here, found MGS while looking online for comments/reviews on golf monitors. I've been playing golf since 1979, but took off about 20 years after a shoulder injury, replacing that obsession with marathon running (I did 19 in 7 years). No longer able or willing to drag myself out of bed/off the couch to run, so I decided about two years ago to go back to golf, since the shoulder is (relatively) behaving. Got fitted for new clubs which I bought as I could afford them during 2022 (everything but the putter; the old sticks were bought in the 1980s). Then I took lessons this year to get my handicap down below 24 so I could enter a tournament in Scotland (I made it, and entered the tournament; what happened with that is detailed in another post I made this morning). But now I want to go back to Scotland in '24, and enter more tournaments, and I need to get the 'cap down to 18 to enter the tournaments I want, so the quest for improvement is ongoing. Thus my interest in a monitor so I can practice in cold, blistering heat, rain, thunderstorms, hurricanes, whatever hits eastern North Carolina.

I don't have the monitor/simulator setup ready to go yet, but it's going in my garage; the significant other is happy I have something to do other than bug her constantly. So the only photo I could provide is of my currently messy garage. The baseline data came from my teacher at Golftec last summer, so I'd be comparing Mevo numbers with what he got from Trackman or Foresight or whatever they're using in their teaching bays. I promise that the Mevo would get plenty of use and, as always, I will have plenty of opinions, as I do about everything.

Welcome to the Forum! Glad you were able to get back into the grind, hope that shoulder holds up!

Thanks! So far it's holding up; I played 8 rounds in two weeks in Scotland, the most I've ever played in such a short period of time. My back (2 prior surgeries) was the bigger issue; I skipped planned rounds at Cruden Bay*, Tain, Dunaverty and Machrihanish Dunes to rest my back, and had one more cancelled because of course damage due to the storms (Golspie) which corresponded with another sore back day.

* -- I had 36 holes scheduled at Cruden Bay. Knew that morning the back wouldn't let me play 36, but I tried to play 18. However, it locked up on the 8th hole and by 11 I couldn't swing another club. Which was a bad place to shut down, because that's as far from the clubhouse at Cruden as you can get, leaving me about a 2-mile hike back there pushing my trolley. So instead of playing 36, I played 11.

8' behind and 8-13' in front for the MEVO. Rooms closed for rent sorry buddy!

That's the one thing that has me worried for the Mevo. The Rapsodo claimed slightly shorter distances necessary, but it had its own issues even though most of those weren't even related to the MLM itself for me. My practice area in the back yard might be a tight fit for the Mevo and needing 8-13 feet to target would make me even more nervous of a wedge or two making it's way over the net and into the school parking lot behind the house. Looking forward to everyone's results.

The questions I always wonder about are, once you have the sim setup and working easily — (1) does it become part of your daily or weekly routine and encourage you to hit more balls and practice and (2) does that make you a better golfer?

I hit balls into my net more than I want to admit in this thread and I have always thought that getting even a small sim would be additive to that practice. The only thing I worry about (other than cost) is that I will start “numbers chasing”. Like trying to hit the ball farther and faster all the time. I have that issue with trackman when I use it.

I think it depends on the person and goals. Personally, I will utilize it to work on the consistency of my game but will also be mindful not to chase longer/bigger numbers.  I want to dial in impact, distance and dispersion.  If I can get that from the unit, the rest is a bonus.

When I use the sim driving range I struggle not to chase numbers

I can't speak for other testers, but I'm hoping to implement the Mevo into my weekly routine over the off-season to keep me in shape and encourage me to practice more. I think having that data at my fingertips will help me dial in my yardages to an extent so that I can be more successful on the course once Spring comes around.

I like to think I won't be "number chasing" but rather getting more confident in my distances so that I'm more accurate. I'm sure there are many clubs in my bag that I'm playing from the wrong distance.

My goal is not to chase numbers (I'd like to pick up more distance, like everybody else, but that may not be possible) but to get consistent numbers. I've kinda figured out, for example, that I can depend on my 8 iron from 120ish but I don't have those kind of go-to numbers with any other club. If I can dial down the 54-degree wedge so that I see I have a shot of 70 yards and just think "that's the 54", that's what I want. Right now, except for the 8I, I'm guessing, and often get it wrong (and wound up using the Texas wedge from well off the green in Scotland because I had more faith in that than in my pitch shots).

Obsessed with chasing the dimpled orb.

Much like @Josh Parker I won’t be chasing numbers but consistentcy. I think consistency will get me longer and for me which is more important accuracy.

adding this to my off season workouts I hope is the thing I need to really make the next jump. At this current time I bailey swing a club during the off season.

Alright guys my intro is up. Go figure the guy with Golfspy in his name has to be the slacker. Haha.  Original tracking showed Friday but I changed the delivery address to my work as it required a signature and now it doesn’t say the expected date. Seriously hoping it’s still Friday as I work 15 miles from my house.

To copy my fellow testers I won’t be chasing numbers. I’m a club ho by nature and the ability to see my numbers and stay in the groove are my main goals.

Will have to get a photo of my setup to add to this, but as a guy who lives in the panhandle I am an avid golfer, and love the grind of improving. I do currently have a more arcade style of golf simulator set up in my garage (optishot 2), with a net and mat as well. I have actually bought a short throw projector and impact screen, but have not set it up yet. The reason for this is unfortunately I am recovering from my fourth knee surgery and I am only 26. Thankfully this one was just a minor scope that needed to be done and will be back fully healthy in the next week or so. I would love to be able to try the mevo out as I think it would be interesting to see how my numbers are as I first get back into swinging and how it would help me get my numbers dialed back in to where they were pre surgery. Either way excited to see the info on how this one goes!

Sorry to hear that! I had to have major ankle surgery a few years ago for the 3rd time (lifetime of soccer through college and after) and the last surgery permanently took me out of running or playing any sports that require cutting ever again. The good news is that it brought me back to golf but obviously the limitations put in place as a result of the surgery were, initially, devastating. Hopefully your rehab goes well and you still have decent mobility/strength afterwards!

Yea 3 acl surgeries from Baseball /Basketball. On the bright side having a scope surgery has felt like a breeze compared to those haha. Appreciate the kind words!

Ha, what you can't see is the dirty golf shoes next to the shoe bin ready to be thrown on.  The culprit of the dirt.  Don't worry the wife got on to me about dropping the dirt in the entryway. 😆
