Interesting.  I'll have to dig out the numbers and try the calculations.

I’m curious as to what are the factors for other clubs (if 7 iron factor is 1.9, what are the factors for 4,5, or 6 irons?)

Looks good to me I have about 80mph swing with 7i (30.5° loft), and average 152-155 carry

I like the simplicity of it, just trying to boil it down to it should go about this far it a function “launch/spin/land angle” ball flight. Checking my numbers I fall right in the range which is nice to know. But knowing me I will still obsess over trackman saying I launch the ball a few degrees too high 🤣

I think the trackman optimizer function will give you a more detailed analysis taking into account spin, apex height and a few other metrics. It’s a pretty cool tool.

Ok.  but not everyone has access to a trackman.   The video was a SIMPLE approach for people to get a ballpark idea of their clubs are close to being optimized.

It’s a cool tool for sure, and me being a perfectionist it’s hard to ignore. But on the other hand if I am getting in the range of what I should for my speed maybe I should.

If I hit the ball pure, I get about 145y. Looks like I have some work to do on mechanics!  Good info!

Hitting it high can definitely be an asset. My issue is I also struggle to keep the ball low when needed and I live in Texas were 15 to 20 mph winds is normal.

It's a math equation at that point. The typical differential between clubs is 7-10 yards.

This math seems to work with my 7 iron as well. My 7 iron is 34° (Titleist T100) and if I need to carry 175, it's a 7 all day. Pretty cool video showing him swinging the actual speeds on demand. Pretty sure I couldn't do that if I had to. Haha.

Possibly hit up the 2023 MGS ball test and compare your game ball to some lower flying options on paper, that part is free. Then with a little asking around with golf buddies and some sleeve swaps and a few purchases you can get a feel for if a ball swap will help with that problem for a little of nothing cost wise. At worst its a good excuse to hit a launch monitor and practice.  I know for me when my ball gets to spinny it floats and goes to high as well.

I have probably spent too much time looking at that, haha. Early in the year I had started testing different balls and for the first time looking at high spin balls after hearing Ian with TXG talk about how higher spin balls will have lower initial launch because of the friction with the club. And according to the trackman I launch it a little high with a little low spin. I have been using the Srixon Z Star Diamond since and been happy. The ball test actually confirmed what I was seeing as the diamond at my swing speed with the iron despite being at the very top in spin is also one of the lowest in peak hight. The ball test has me interested in a few other balls as well I might try when I get close to needing more balls.

Interesting video but its no fun to be in the low speed category!  😟

A recent trackman session had my 7i at 78mph and my carry distance at 153.  A little longer than the 148 predicted using the 1.9 multiplier.

I guess there is no excuse for new irons in those results.  🤔

Wow, he is a machine to be able to control his club head speed so accurately! Love the simplicity of the calculation. As mentioned by others, it would be interesting to know the calculations for out other clubs.
