GolfSpy MPR
My wife packed up Kirke's backpack before he left, so here's his scripting for tomorrow: (Yes, I'm joking about scripting. He is wearing this, but we are not taking this nearly that seriously.) Also, the fresh sleeve of ProV's was given to him by the manager of our local course, who has been so gracious to Kirke. Popular Post GolfSpy MPR
Still awaiting the link to the official posts on the DCP website, but I can forward along Kirke's results from today. He was one of about 25+ boys in the 7–9 bracket. He didn't have a strong showing with driving: his first and third drives finished between 75–99 yards, good for 4 points each. He pulled his second drive left of the grid. On chipping, he finished with 14 points. I don't yet have the details on each chip, but that would mean on average he was finishing in the 6–8' range, which is not a terribly strong showing. So he needed to putt well, and he did. He finished with a putting total of 58. His first two putts must have been very good, because my dad said that his third putt (from 30') finished well short of the hole. His total of 80 is a solid number for his age group. If you check the results link (https://www.drivechipandputt.com/results) for Boys 7–9, you'll see that 80 is going to finish well in most local qualifiers. Here, it was good enough for a tie for third. The tie-breaker, unfortunately for Kirke, is the score on the 30' putt, and that knocked him to fourth. The top three advance to the next round. So on the whole, he did very well. He's a 6-year-old competing in the 7–9 bracket, so he has two more years to grow and compete here. It was his first taste of formal competition in golf. My dad said he kept a good attitude, which is what I care about most. Right now, I'm looking forward to my parents and Kirke getting back, so I can give my son a big hug and tell him how proud I am of him. robertson153, cnosil, edingc and 15 others 14 4 Quote TS3 9.5°, Tensei Blue CBX T3 15°, Project X HZRDUS Black Epic Super Hybrid 18°, Aerotech Steel Fiber FC HYB S C722 21°, Ventus Blue 8S CBX Iron-Wood 25°, Project X HZRDUS Black 6.0 639 CB, Aldila NV 95 Graphite, 6–PW CBX 48° T22 54° and 60° EAS 4.0, Garsen G-Pro grip TP5x and Tour Response Full WITB with pictures

GolfSpy MPR
Kirke is home! And I have a correction to the above post, now that I'm seeing all the pictures and video. I misread a text from my mom. Kirke's overall score was a 58; I thought she said that was his putting score. So he didn't get an 80 overall; it was a 58 overall. The rest of the story is correct: still tied for third and then eliminated on tie breaks. Video and pictures probably posting tomorrow. Popular Post GolfSpy MPR
And now, the report with pictures! Because of a schedule conflict at the church, I wasn't able to bring Kirke to the Local Qualifier, so Kirke went to Drive, Chip, and Putt with my parents. This change of plans came with perks. When I was planning to take him, I had originally planned to crash at a friend's house; Grandma and Grandpa get a hotel room, which meant Kirke got a queen bed all to himself! The next morning, they got to Eau Claire Golf and Country Club for registration (that's my mom with Kirke): Kirke (as always) loved to have a chance to get in some practice off the tee and around the green: Then came the events themselves. As I noted above, Kirke's first and third drives finished in the 75-99 yard range, good for four points each. He pulled his second drive off the scoring grid (you can seem him flinch a bit in his finish, knowing that he mishit it): On chipping, the first one is good for 15 points, but the next two are less accurate, one long and the next short: The putting was his strongest event. His six footer stops on the edge of the cup; the fifteen footer is a close one; but his thirty footer is left well short, which also results in his losing the tie-break for 3rd place: All told, though, it's a great showing, and he's looking forward to doing this again next year: sirchunksalot, perseveringgolfer, PlaidJacket and 7 others 10 Quote TS3 9.5°, Tensei Blue CBX T3 15°, Project X HZRDUS Black Epic Super Hybrid 18°, Aerotech Steel Fiber FC HYB S C722 21°, Ventus Blue 8S CBX Iron-Wood 25°, Project X HZRDUS Black 6.0 639 CB, Aldila NV 95 Graphite, 6–PW CBX 48° T22 54° and 60° EAS 4.0, Garsen G-Pro grip TP5x and Tour Response Full WITB with pictures

M. Parsons
Way to go @Kirke, you did great. I wonder why they chose to use the putting score as the tie-breaker? GolfSpy MPR
Official results have now been published on the DCP website. There doesn't seem to be a way to link there directly, but if you go to the results page, find the local qualifier at Eau Claire Golf and Country Club in Wisconsin, and check the boys 7-9 division, you'll find this: The key here is that Kirke is first alternate. I'm not expecting anything of it, but if for some reason one of the top 3 aren't going to SentryWorld for the next round, Kirke could get a call by this upcoming Thursday. edingc, robertson153, sirchunksalot and 5 others 8 Quote TS3 9.5°, Tensei Blue CBX T3 15°, Project X HZRDUS Black Epic Super Hybrid 18°, Aerotech Steel Fiber FC HYB S C722 21°, Ventus Blue 8S CBX Iron-Wood 25°, Project X HZRDUS Black 6.0 639 CB, Aldila NV 95 Graphite, 6–PW CBX 48° T22 54° and 60° EAS 4.0, Garsen G-Pro grip TP5x and Tour Response Full WITB with pictures
PlaidJacket
I just love watching kids learning and playing golf. In the vids above I especially like Kirke's chipping and putting. I was playing well (for me), and at the turn, Kirke and I were tied at 39. I shot 6 over on the back. He shot even par, and beat me by six. Just when I think I have a chance.... JohnSmalls
@GolfSpy MPR I have a confession. I took my girlfriend to play golf Thursday. Our practice putting green is right beside the entrance to the clubhouse. As I was walking up to the clubhouse to sign in, there was a little guy on the green wearing the same blue/orange titleist hat that Kirke had on in an earlier photo you posted and I presume who was his dad with him. I had to do a double take because I thought you both were at my club all the way in SC. Then I remembered that the little town I am in isn't exactly a tourist destination, nor a known golf paradise. GolfSpy MPR
A couple shots from a twilight round with Kirke tonight: It did run off the back, but that swing is a thing of beauty. And then: All told, an unspectacular round for Kirke: a 5-over 41. But I had fun on a nice cool evening, and had both boys with me. It was the first time Christopher has walked nine. At age 4, he reached the uphill 200 yard par 5 in three shots, something Kirke wasn't able to do until this year. There's some serious power in that boy. GolfSpy MPR
I must have put my last post in this thread at the wrong time. No one liked videos of smashing apples with drivers? Anyway, Kirke and I had a fun weekend last week. We drove down to the Lower Peninsula of Michigan so that I could speak at a men's retreat from the church I grew up in. The retreat began on Friday with a scramble. On a couple of holes, they put out coolers with candy bars. Anyone whose shot finished on the green was entitled to a candy bar. So of course, Kirke picked up two free candy bars: And then on another short par 3 (from the red tees), Kirke beat every man in the field to win a closest to the pin: This shot is about 95 yards. You can see him hold off a bit on the finish, because he's trying to get his driver to land softly. The ball finished two feet from the cup, and he tapped in for a birdie for our team. On Sunday between services, we went to a Golf Galaxy (we love hitting golf stores when we actually have the chance to do so). Kirke loved that they had clubs out for demo, even though they were adult clubs: Last note in this post: Facebook reminded me this morning that on this date four years ago, Kirke played his first ever nine-hole round. edingc, GolfSpy_BNG, JohnSmalls and 2 others 5 Quote TS3 9.5°, Tensei Blue CBX T3 15°, Project X HZRDUS Black Epic Super Hybrid 18°, Aerotech Steel Fiber FC HYB S C722 21°, Ventus Blue 8S CBX Iron-Wood 25°, Project X HZRDUS Black 6.0 639 CB, Aldila NV 95 Graphite, 6–PW CBX 48° T22 54° and 60° EAS 4.0, Garsen G-Pro grip TP5x and Tour Response Full WITB with pictures

GolfSpy MPR
As if I needed more evidence that Kirke's hand-eye coordination is better than mine has ever been, here's his attempt at a Happy Gilmore from our round today: On a more serious golf level: we played 9 holes, and he parred all nine, taking 15 putts. And nice clean round.
