I am pretty sure we will see a brewery or 3. friends that I am going with have a plan, so I just rolling with the plan. I have been there for a day at a time. This is my first multi day trip to Newport. We tend to go to Seaside as my neighbor has house there 2 blocks from main drag.

Mo's is good, but we have found a few smaller localist joints that are better.

Definitely better spots than Mo's. Having grown up in Oregon I learned early to know the local joints as opposed to the tourist hot spots.

This week has been pretty good calorie intake wise. My only hiccup was that I pounded through about 8 oreos yesterday afternoon. I haven't been tracking on an app, but I used to and have a pretty good idea about it. I should probably get back on the calorie tracking in an app.

Workouts have been good for me this week. It's the final week of this "Everyday Fit" Tonal program and I'll be happy when it's done. I do have to admit that even though I've been down on the program, I have lost weight during the program and gained muscle, so the results were solid.

Keep at it everyone!

How do like the Tonal? Is it worth the cost?
space wise, how much room do you actually need?

I could start a small gym just with the stuff I have in my garage.

I could start a small gym just with the stuff I have in my garage.

I like the Tonal:

I really like the Tonal a lot. It is hands down the best and easiest strength training setup I have ever seen. Also, I have never strength trained as consistently as I have since owning the Tonal. It's definitely worth it for us because the closest gym is more than 15 minutes away and with 3 little kids it's hard to get out of the house for anything. We have it arranged where my wife works out in the mornings and I work out in the evenings, after the kids go to bed. I use it 5-6 days a week.

The only people who would not be able to use a Tonal are people who are striving for the highest single rep max weight or body builders who are too strong for the max digital weight the Tonal can provide. I consider myself pretty strong and I'm not close to maxing out the weight on any workout program.

Cost:

Even though I say it's worth it for us, it's probably not going to save you any money over most conventional gyms and definitely will not save money over most free weight setups. However, you are basically doing workout programs with a personal trainer all the time and I know that costs a lot of money at gyms. The purchase cost is about $4k (you can do payment plans but the interest rate is bananas) and the monthly cost is $60. It was easy for us to justify the cost because of the convenience, no easy access to gyms, it has pre & post natal workouts for my wife, no room for free weights and it'll be used by the whole family eventually. There are other benefits also, but those were the list we had going when we made the purchase.

Space:

My ceilings are 7' high and that's enough room for me at 5'9". If you were 6' tall you would definitely need a 7'6" or taller ceiling. With the Tonal arms out, it only takes up about 3'x4'. With the arms stowed it sticks out 6" off the wall. If you were to put a Tonal in a bedroom, I think the room would have to be 8' wide x 10' long to be able to do all the workouts.

Let me know if you have more questions about it. Here's my setup with it:Tonal.jpg.83ff838c3ee0ecf2beda5e53abd0b53f.jpg

Nice job @BallsLeon! I'd say walking 27 holes would be pretty good cardio.

What does swing practice look like for you?

@jbern 1-2hrs of full swing clubs at the simulator. Some days I’m swinging one club and focusing on a swing change, and other days are much less structured/sim rounds.

For my weekly update; I finished the last 4 workouts of the "Everyday Fit" program on the Tonal. I also did one stretching workout on the Tonal.

I'm glad to be done with the Everyday Fit program, but now I've got to select another program. There are golf specific workouts, but no full golf specific program. So I'll probably end up choosing a HIIT style program for maximum calorie burn.

I also did a meal plan with my wife for this week. I'm going to try to stick to it! So far so good today.

It's been a couple days since I've been able to get on here and put up what I've been doing or not doing.

Last week I was in Miami for a work conference, had a little too much fun on Wednesday night and skipped my Thursday workout. Shoulder workout was completed on Friday, and after a series of maintenance delays on Saturday I spent 20 hours traveling home, so nothing happened Saturday or Sunday. I also did minimal caloric tracking outside of what I ate during the day last week, as I ate out at a couple of nice restaurants with the rest of my group and let myself enjoy some very fine cuisine with next to zero regard for its nutritional value. It was pretty fantastic.

First time posting to this thread but no better time than now as I was just given the green light to resume strenuous exercise after about a month of forced rest because COVID did a number on my lungs last month.

Before that I was doing a lot of running, with the hopes of running a marathon in the fall of this year. That plan may have to be abandoned now, but I got back to both running and workouts this past weekend.

I did a 4km run on Sunday which used to be a short and easy run for me, but I struggled and my heart rate was quite high the whole time. A bit demoralizing that I lost the fitness so quickly but looking forward to some of those newbie gains again.

Also did a home bodyweight workout, mostly push-up variations and core for this first one back. I plan to ease back into to some kettlebell workouts that I was doing before. But would welcome anyone's tips for home workouts that are golf focused now that my season here in Canada is fast approaching.

Welcome, Dude! Sounds like your marathon plans have been delayed, not abandoned! Long COVID can be brutal, sorry you have to deal with it. Just keep plugging away and getting a little bit better everyday - you'll get back to where you were and can celebrate with a White Russian and doing a J. BTW, it's my favorite movie.

Covid did my lungs in when I had it in Oct 2020. Walking 500 yards would put me on the couch for a 2 hr sleep.  Took me a few months to get close to where I was. It does get easier, just be consistent which it sounds like you are.

Hope you heal up quick.

Ok so I suck at taking pictures. Only got a couple I’ll put up.
seafood and wine festival was fun. Kinda funny how ( I don’t mean to bash my wife here) has no issues spending $500 on 8 bottles of wine, but if I want to play a nice course for $100 it’s the end of bank account.

Saturday was the festival and Sunday was a 2 1/2 mile hangover beach walk.  That was way too far but it did a headache good.

last week I over did my workouts. My back was pretty pissed and decided to be a little biotch. So walking the festival, the beach and hooking the trailer all took 4 times longer.
incident track food intake either and haven’t this week yet.

I did play in a simulator tourney on Tuesday. it was a scramble, indoors and basically no walking. I feel ok today

im hoping to get back to workouts next week, just need to be more mindful of frequency

Did a 30 minute "sport training" program on my elliptical as part of my exercise yesterday .. it's basic interval training and I managed to keep a fairly steady pace going of about 60 rpms.

Last year I wouldn't have been able to do that!

So thx all in here for helping me get motivated and staying on track to a better '24 👍👏

Wednesday - No workout. Wife got me a massage for my birthday, so I spent the morning getting put through the meat grinder before working from home the rest of the day in the basement.

I went to the gym around 4, which meant it was packed. It was jammed full of college kids that have stopped caring about how they smelled, and it makes me wonder. This place is literally crawling with good looking girls with a thin layer of clothes barely painted on, what factors lead these dudes to the decision of "Nah, showers just ain't for me"?? When I walk into a 258,000 square foot facility and it smells like an onion chopping contest on all three levels with the high level opportunities walking around there I start to lose faith in the next generation. Rant over.

Welcome to the forum! I highly recommend adding a profile photo and filling out the rest of the profile so we can get to know you a little better! This is the best golf community on the interwebs!

Sad to hear about the COVID situation, but glad you're on the tail end of it and can resume normal exercise! Do you have a new goal in mind, since you might be moving the marathon to another time?

Great idea to change it up and go for a walk instead of lifting. I should probably do the same. I haven't gone for an extended run or walk in quite some time. Wednesday weather was 20* and 30mph winds, so hopefully yours was better! 😆

Awesome that you got a massage for your birthday! That sounds nice!

I never went through the smelly gym rat stage of college life, so I can't relate. I did have a few nights after a Call of Duty game release in college where the shower didn't get much use! No females in sight during that time though!😆
