2024 Cleveland CBX 4 ZipCore Wedges

HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif., Jan. 17, 2024 – The all-new CBX 4 ZipCore Wedges from CLEVELAND GOLF® are designed to help golfers shake the dreaded chunk shot and get up and down with confidence, thanks to a modern cavity back design with a refreshed slate of performance technologies.

What’s great about the new CBX 4 ZipCore is that they share similar shaping and weighting to modern forgiving Irons, so the transition from your Irons to your Wedges is going to be consistent with what you’re used to. Golfers will notice the consistency around the greens, but especially during full Wedge shots. The swing feel won’t be drastically different, but more of the same as what they’re used to with their Irons.

Jeff Brunski, Vice President of R&D at Cleveland Golf

After researching the frequency with which mid-to-high handicappers strike Wedge shots on the toe side of center (more than half the time), Cleveland Golf created CBX 4 ZipCore Wedges to have a slightly toe-biased sweet spot. This was made possible thanks to Cleveland Golf’s proprietary ZipCore technology. This unique, low-density material helps reposition mass for more heel/toe and high/low MOI. CBX 4 ZipCore Wedges feature a 7% increase in heel/toe MOI and 5.8% increase in high/low MOI compared to the previous generation, resulting in the highest total MOI in a CBX Wedge ever.

To maximize spin in any conditions, CBX 4 ZipCore Wedges feature HydraZip technology. This one-of-a-kind face blast and laser line patterns boosts friction off the face for improved spin consistency from any lie and anywhere around the green. CBX 4 ZipCore is also outfitted with UltiZip grooves. These sharp, deep, and tightly spaced grooves maximize bite at contact, promoting purer spin, more control, and increased consistency.

When it comes to getting in and out of the turf, Cleveland Golf took the guesswork out of selecting sole shapes by creating three Dynamic Sole Grind selections, each optimized by loft. All three sole grinds (V-Shaped, S-Shaped, C-Shaped) feature a new leading edge design that promotes smoother turf interaction and helps prevent chunking.

CBX 4 ZipCore Wedges blend almost seamlessly with modern cavity back or hollow irons, giving avid golfers a high-powered option for more short-game versatility, more forgiveness, and cleaner turf interaction. These Wedges feature many of the same technologies as Cleveland Golf’s flagship RTX Wedges, but in a highly refined, sharp-looking design.

Get premium forgiveness and elite versatility with the all-new CBX 4 ZipCore Wedges from Cleveland Golf. Visit us.dunlopsports.com/cleveland-golf to learn more.

I can see myself using something like this for PW (44-48*) and AW (48-52*), but I like traditional SW (54-56*) and LW (58-60*).

The problem is that most of the time I can get a solid PW and AW with my club set. So I'm not sure where I see something like these fit in for me.

Just my own opinion, but these look really good.

They seem to have a classic, yet modern look to them which I can't quite put my finger on.

I agree. They just look less like a CB wedge and more like a normal one.

I hope the full face version doesn't have the super high tow like the last version. That was a big gripe of mine - keep the toe the same and offer a second option for high toe.

I'm looking to switch to a more "forgiving" specialty wedge set this next year (CBX, S23, etc) to see if it helps me more on less than perfect strikes.

They look more "grown up"  I think the simple black paintfill helps from keeping it look busy, and the shape looks nicely refined from the CBX2's that @Lacassem used to have.

I really like the looks of theses and the description in the article. I’m going to seriously think about these.   I am looking for at least one or two new wedges. I have a ping glide 3.0 56 that is probably my favorite club in the bag. From a 3/4 swing to barely off the green, I hit it better than any club in the bag. I really struggle with full swing shots with it though.  I wonder if a wedge like this would solve some of the full swing issues but would still be good around the green?

I have two CBX zipcores in the bag, unbelievably good for full swing shots and hitting a consistent distance and spin number, have been a gamechanger for me as a mid handicapper. I do find they are a bit hot for chipping around the green so I stick to a regular bladed wedge for the most lofted option in the bag, probably just user error though..

I had the previous CBX and gave it to my son because I wanted to try the Hi Toe 4 and also my son needed a forgiving wedge in the worst way. My 52 is a full face RTX and I like it wish I hadnt bought the TM hi Toe and had the new CBX in 56 instead , then look at adding a 58 or 60 strictly for greenside work.  I do not know how to pitch and chip properly so I taught myself how to get by, I commonly chip with a 5 utility iron or even a 5 hybrid if its in the bag at the time . The 52 RTX full face has improved the partial wedge chip shots and reps bring more improvement.

Have always been a long time fan of the CBX wedges - started with CBX's when I wanted to go to a more forgiving wedge.  Had just updated to CBX2's Zipcore when I got to test the INDI wedges last summer.  The INDIs proved capable and moved to the CBX wedges to the spare set of clubs.  With the announcment of the CBX4 wedges, I pulled the CBX2's out for some backyard swings today - against the INDI's.  It reminde me why I still love the feel of the Clevelands and will continue to play them from time to time.  Looking forward to hearing how the golf world takes to the CBX4s.

I have the 2022 model CBX4 Zipcores (54 and 58) and I didn't recognize these as the same model club. I'm kinda partial to the ones in my bag, but these do look pretty sweet.

Obsessed with chasing the dimpled orb.

Conforming - it was a requirement of the test. Here’s the link to the test:

That was my guess. I wasn't on MGS then and I'd never heard of Indi, so I looked them up, and was frankly shocked to see them brazenly promoting nonconforming wedges. Maybe the people who think golf ball companies will make conforming and nonconforming balls starting in 2030 are not that far off the mark.

First, these look good ... much improved over their previous CBX models, IMO.  Second, I most definitely prefer to strike my wedges (and irons down to 6-iron) on the toe side of middle.  For me, it keeps me more consistent with a reliable baby-draw shot shape and keeps me far away from the dreaded you-know-what.  So, these definitely have my attention!  It's so cool that they tried to make a product especially for that kind of strike - I've kind of been pining for that with wedges and irons in general.  For me, I find that my Edisons (version 1) do well toward the toe side.  A couple others that I've tested that did well toward the toe were the Mizuno T22 and the Edels.  What's cool about the Edels is that you can kind of make them biased pretty much anywhere on the face with different weight configurations.

I'd love for a whole iron set to be created around that toe-side bias.  With my current gamers (Rogue ST Pro), the toe side works well down through the 6-iron, and even the 5 somewhat.  But, the 3 and 4 are not good from the toe.  Maybe I should try some lead tape out toward the toe?? I've never tried that before.

I did try hitting the Edel SMS Pro with heavier weights toward the toe and felt they had some very good potential for me.  However, my preferred shaft was not available for the fitting, nor anything close to it really, so it was hard to get a good guage ... not a good enough guage to convince me to switch with that price tag.

Looks-wise, when I compare them to my CBX2s …

I don’t think I’d say that they look better, but they do look a little less different from other offerings. I do think they look complementary to the XL zipcore irons, so that’s nice.

The fact that CBX4s are supposed to have more versatility without losing their forgiveness is intriguing. I’m not sure it’s enough for me to want to switch. A couple weeks ago I was thinking that there’s a 46° CBX wedge available to in LH, I might go for it. But alas, they are only available to righties.

I’m sure they could be more appealing to folks with lower handicaps than mine.

I have loved my Cleveland CBX, CBX2, & Zipcore wedges.

I've got at 48 Zip, a 54 CBX2, and my original CBX in a 60 deg.

When I saw the CBX4 article, I set my sights on replacing the 60 with one

if it's not radically different from my CBX2.

I am very much looking forward to trying them out in the next week or two!

Very cool! It looks like we have musical instruments in common too?  I'm a band director in public school.

Love playing the saxophone! Not my main instrument, but I have a Yamaha YAS62 that is really nice.

I often wondered why Yamaha didn't get into  golf club-making...
