Bridgestone MindSet Golf Ball Testing - (Sampling and Shot Scope Ops)

Recommended Posts

I received my test RX dozen balls today after applying for the test just over a week ago.  Can't make it out this weekend with Mother's Day plans but I'm excited to give these a try over the coming weeks!

I received my Bridgestone Tour B X balls today after forgetting I had even signed up for them last week (it's been a hectic week). I am looking forward to some weekend rounds. Being that this is my first product to test for MGS, I'd love some ideas on the best way to test. I have a Garmin R10 I can use for numbers, but my thought was just to use it and my gamer ball and see how I do (alternating first shots each time).

Have played Bridgestone balls before I started playing the Maxfli Tour X.  Bridgestone is still one of my favorite balls and the Mindset Tour B RX did not disappoint.

With the Maxfli Tour X I have been using the CG arrows to line up my shots.  I like to pick a point between the ball and my target and line up the arrows accordingly.  The mindset logo does help me get this line set up much easier than the smaller arrows on the Maxfli.  As far as being able to visualize and focus I’m not sure how much of a difference it made, could just be my ADHD though.

The Bridgestone Tour B RX Mindset golf balls did seem to be durable and provide excellent spin.  I also felt that I got a few extra yards with the Tour B RX balls than I did with the Maxfli Tour X.

Three rounds in this week so far, with a tournament this Saturday.  The week started off poorly with a serious lack of Mindset….1st round was 42/41 and 36 putts, the food that came from that round was figuring some things out and applied them for the next round.
The Mindset was back on track for round two started with a birdie, had a bit of a sloppy stretch going to the turn finishing the front +3 and 15 putts.  The back 9 is where the fun started bogey on 10 finishing 11-18 minus 2 with birdies on 15 and 18 and 11 putts!!!!

Best round in years…..

Today was good as well, long irons and fairway metal created some issues but I was able to get my Mindset back on track.

started the round bogey/bogey with one more on 7, but followed up with a birdie on 8.  Front 9- 38 with 15 putts.  3 more bogeys on the back 39 with 16 putts.  77 with 31 putts. And a sand save!!IMG_2319.jpeg.99df024b06fec2d9fdc222c92a75d823.jpeg

Congratulations on your first opportunity!!

There is definitely some that really enjoy seeing the numbers comparison between different balls. But,  I'd say start with just using the mindset process while playing. As this is the specific reas9n behind the test.

Make some notes (mentally and physically) if the process helped you focus better, hit better, and the outcomes.  See if you can deploy the same methods using your regular gamer ball.

Then start collecting the various data and provide a breakdown of how they compare.

Have fun, and.good luck!

I've been talking about this ball as part of the overall test over on this page on the forum, but figured I needed to post here as well:

May 10 update: Today the ball that I had knicknamed "Scruffy" as it has gone a solid 3-1/2 rounds making it through several cart path bounces, pine and oak collisions as well as irons, wedges, driver, hybrids, etc.  I thought the ball would be unloseable as it would venture off only to be found.  Today it met a timely exit as the tee on shot on #7 of my local course sent it deep in the muck that is the ditch that crosses the fairway.  So it was good-bye to Scruffy today.  Overall this ball has proven durable, playable and downright enjoyable.  I am convinced the Mindset reminder on the ball keeps me focused on what I would like shot to do.  Great ball Bridgestone and thanks for the opportunity to test the ball as well as the Mindset concept.

I feel like there was another thread that was for users that do not have Shotscope. Have they all been merged into one thread? I received a surprise box in the mail today with Bridgestone balls! My wife asked if we can take them out for a round on Sunday. Well yeah! That's a great idea!!! I had not received any other communication about the balls. I will happily write a review, but I'm curious about where I should put it. Thank you Bridgestone and MyGolfSpy!!!

I took the Mindset RXS to the backyard with my 60° and 3 other brands of balls. Immediately after hitting the Bridgestone I said "I found my new ball". It felt more consistent with more pop off the club than the Kirkland Peformance, Shankit Shank Soft, and Pro V1x. The Bridgestone felt softer which I prefer. I'm hoping to play a full round with them this weekend

Received my BXS balls a week ago but haven’t been able to get outside lately with work and family obligations. This week looks a lot better so going to get my opening post loaded. IMG_1060.png.d971bcb72a42e7dec302fdcb3b5d20b2.png

I’m a new user with Shot Scope and this is a small sample size with 5 rounds using my gamer ball the Srixon Z star Diamond. I’ve been real good off the tee to start the season but my irons have been on the struggle bus. My short game is normally one of my strengths but having to rely on it more than usual I think has taken a toll on my confidence. IMG_1054.png.9a8a0a2f9d6d5966c44ed9da01e4cf49.png

My distance with my driving clubs has been as spot on as my accuracy as well. IMG_1055.png.0b80db26749489f976c808c6c861855c.png

My distances with my irons has been all over the map with this small sample size. Some of these rounds were very windy causing some odd distance averages to start the year. I’m sure this will work itself out with more rounds. IMG_1061.png.b0318c4bcf41af5483cc16b36ad4493d.png
IMG_1062.png.6a77f16994dc45b101b9bd089ddec8e6.pngIMG_1063.png.606b7646d59bf521c87a9c82bf3b67af.png

You can see by my strokes gained on par 3s and 4s compared to 5s how my irons have been hurting my scores. IMG_1065.png.afe23f436a3365021a756229c74dd889.png

My putting hasn’t been terrible but the green conditions in early spring has posed some challenges that will also work out by this summer. IMG_1067.png.4745e911ee49dcf1d7c9034b31a93000.png

Overall, I’m excited to see how the Bridgestone ball impacts my performance.

Round #2 with the Bridgestone BX mindset.

Let me remark that this ball dials in your focus. I'm constantly reminded to stay focused and not have a mental lapse. Really noticeable after I have a horrendous hole, really helps get you back in the game.

I have two courses I typically play at, this year I'm again back at the short one (6700yards) where it's narrow AF and I struggle to break 80(par 70). The other course is more links/mountain style where if I play half decent I'll shoot around 75-76 (par 71). Ihave a couple years of data to pull from, but it's just confirming my "holy $hi7!" epiphany.

There are two holes that generally ruin my scorecard, #1 and #12. Hole #1 I have an all-time find the fairway average of around 30%. Hole #12 it's about ,40%. The bigger issue is of you miss the fairway on those holes due to placement and # of trees you are basically guaranteed bogey at best.

Both rounds I've played with the mindset ball I've hit fairway on BOTH holes. And it's not just hit fairway, as if you are too far left on #1 or too far right on #12 you are blocked out/no shot at the green, I am in good position for my second shot

Take a look at the tee shot history on those two holes (noted in the footer which year it was) and I've circled the mindset balls in purple. Once, ok possible random number generation I got lucky on both shots. Twice is a pattern.

Also finally had a non windy day where I made a decent swing off the tee..and sweet baby jesus. My 5wood Pavg is 235. Hole #2 I hit it 260. The 2i is a new addition to my bag but at 250 yards on hole #1 seems to indicate launch monitor performance indoors does not seem to be reflective of how it performs out on course.

When you're a low index, a couple poor shots/non ideal bounces can ruin your score card...as was the case today. Hole #3 hit drive too straight (no fade), stuck behind trees but had a shot if a mid height cut could be tread thru. Hit the shot but clipped a branch which took all the sidespin off and left me basically dead on my next shot aka bogey. Hole #7 just overcut the drive, had a 4' window to sneak it thru (which I did) for a 80 yard wedge in, which I proceeded to wuss out and hit 30 yards short and then proceeded to 3jack from there. Not mindsets fault for a poorly placed drive that left me with zero chance to salvage par, bogey best case. #8 I hit the literal worst shot I've hit in about 4 years on that hole, chunked a 9i into the water, however salvaged an up and down from 30yards to rescue a bogey. Add in recently punched greens and it's not fair to blame the ball for some poor swings/course conditions.

More testing to follow!6c1266191f842ca899cdcd472c586814.jpgcd78165fd4309379bbefa480c5adac14.jpg0fbe17e89461e1a2b1e97851c44601f8.jpg9b79456def2fc1881c963a78a217e4bc.jpg87cb31f3840e5c881a92a50061adbd42.jpg17043ae47da2762c343ce89cfde720df.jpged52dfa226ef773dcebbc4bd00fed7b9.jpgaf26ff26b8e09904401b0d31bf544009.jpgf3592c4a4f73dde353509f213dd4bcac.jpg7c28477aa447cdddb2728030e0359b72.jpgf3ff10aacde8f96bb332af13219613fe.jpgcf5ac529fa483137d094f25b402876ab.jpg

Today was my third round playing with the Bridgestone Mindset Tour B RX.  As in the previous rounds, I added the "visualize" process step to the "identify" and "focus" steps that were pretty much already there.  Today, can say I made a more considered effort to basically put the first two steps out of my mind and just focus on the green dot as I was ready to pull the trigger.   I also used the Mindset graphic to line up every one of my putts.   So, what happened?  I ended up shooting my best round of golf...ever!  I shot a 75 (five over on my par 70 course).  Here's the link to my VCT submission:

I was the most surreal round of golf I've ever shot!  I had two birdies, both set up with great approach shots (including a hole out from 75 yards on our toughest hole).  If I got in trouble, I wasn't a hero, made smart plays and executed great chips and putts to minimize the overall damage.   It was funny that I seemed to execute almost every shot that I identified and visualized though the round.

Was it the Mindset process?  Maybe?!  Could it have been putting my Squairz golf shoes back into my three pair rotation today?   Maybe!?  Could it have been the Northern Lights?  Maybe!  All could be true!  I just don't know.  One thing for sure is that it's only one data point (but a really good data point for me)!  Only time and multiple other rounds will tell.  But for now, at least I can have one day to celebrate my personal best.

Congratulations!!!

Very excited to be part of this testing. This will be my first official side-by-side comparison, but I have a feeling I won’t be comparing for long. The Bridgestone Tour B RX will be the first premium ball I have ever played, and I’ll be comparing it to the Wilson DUO Soft+. I’m going to start by reviewing performance on my local 9-hole Par-3 course, and I’ll get to driver further on.

Cheers!

Hey all, first real post here.

I got my Bridgestone Tour B RX last week and I tried them out yesterday.  (Can't play on Mother's Day, obviously.)  I did manage to use one ball the whole round, always a bonus.  The ball does have some scars for the effort - two cart paths and a tree - but it survived.

The real takeaway for me is the Mindset portion of the ball, more so than the ball performance.  The three-step process is the key.  Previously I would have thought, pick a target, visualize the shot, and focus on the ball would have been pretty obvious.  However, several times I caught myself not really doing all of the above.

Even picking a specific target.  Which seems crazy.  Why would you hit a shot without having a specific target?  Yet occasionally I found myself thinking (especially on a par 5) just hit it (in a general area).   I would have to stop, reset and pick a specific target.  Helpful!

On to visualization.  Having a little trouble with this.  Am I supposed to close my eyes and imagine the shot?  Or how exactly?  Anyway, I did my best to imagine the successful shot.  Sometimes it worked!

I think the green dot was my favorite part.  When it worked best, it did quiet the voices in my head (which is huge).  First round using it, it was hard to always slow down enough to remember all the phases of the Mindset program.

For one round, I liked it.  Not much on the ball performance here.  I found it similar to the Vice Pro I have been playing, and the Maxfli Tour that I recently added.  I will say I have also been taking some lessons and working on other parts of my game so I can't give the Mindset all the credit, but I did shoot one of my lower scores of the year.  Not the lowest, but the lowest in a while.

In the end, I liked the meditative nature of the exercise.  As someone who learned to play the game quickly (for speed of play), it was calming to have a routine that slowed me down.  I call round one a success!

One small comment.  There is only one green dot.  And there are times when you can't see it, you know, without manipulating it.

More later.

Lefty.  Calloway woods.  Taylor Made Irons. Will play in snow.

How many of you are:

A. Using the mindset process in conjunction with the logo as some form of alignment.

B. Only applying the mindset process.

C. Only using the logo as an alignmnet aid.

I already mentioned that I am a medium A, But a strong B everytime.

Wouldn’t the concept only be good for tee shots? I suppose it could be done for putting too, but many, including myself, already use a line or have a routine.

You're correct that the circles & arrow can only be utilized on the tee and for putting. Hopefully we can ingrain the Identify, Visualize, Focus mantra enough so it's used on every shot. But I agree, it works best for those who don't already have a pre-shot routine.

I've been doing A&B religiously in my testing. Ya I gotta spin the ball, but hey it's a test so do it even if it technically invalidates the round my men's league night I use my typical maxflis as people more stickler on z rules, any other testing rounds I'll be going strictly bridgestone

Today I am going to compare the new kirkland ball to the bridgestone tour BRX mindset ball. Using either ball I have always stood behind the ball and picked a target about 2 feet in front of the ball, then I address the ball take one look down the fairway than if it's the mindset ball I look at the green dot and pull the trigger. If it's any other ball I pick out one dimple to look at than I let it rip. So in reality I have been doing two of the three parts of the mindset process all along. Can't wait to hear from the new round of testers.

I played my first two rounds with the Mindset ball from Bridgestone and here are my thoughts.

I will first start with the Mindset feature before I get into the actual ball since I believe that is more the test here. I did find the Mindset image useful, it did help me focus a bit more before the shot. I am somewhat of a fast player so it was a good reminder to slow down and visualize. I always focus on a spot on the ball prior to my shot but for some reason this helped me focus more by giving me the routine. The only problem is that I wish I could practice with them, instead of range balls since it would hone my skill with the mindset feature, I will try to utilize it more on short game practice so that may help

As for the ball itself, I have tried Bridgestone in the past and I must say this ball has improved since then. However I did notice that just like the previous models you could tell that these balls were designed from the green back, with the focus on short game. The balls around the green (within 50 yards) are stunning!. They have a soft feel and great spin. Putting is a pleasure because of the feel, it may just be mental, but I feel I can attack the hole more because of how soft they are.

I noticed some improvements off the tee from the previous versions but my yardage still took a dramatic hit. Now it was only two rounds so I will leave my full review until I have more time. I also played a more target based course where I actually hit 6 iron off the tee more than the driver on the first round.

I will have a couple more rounds within the next couple weeks, we are still waiting for consistent golf weather here in Denver.
