    Happy thread

Jackson had his first flag football game yesterday and scored two TDs! They got this great photo of his second score and he made the leagues FB post highlighting the play on Saturday: Then I got to lace them up with Grady in his final learn to skate session of the summer. It’s been over 10 years since I’ve been on the ice and it was a lot of fun to skate around with him and Grandpa too. He has golf camp this week so I’ll get the bonus of hitting a few buckets. So we’re both looking forward to that!

  2. Got in a early morning round this weekend with the group. Haven’t been playing well so I went out without any expectations. Started off playing pretty good. Hitting fairways and greens and on a few bad drives I punched out to the fairway for bogeys saves. Outside of literally cold topping my 3 wood off the tee I had a good front for a 42. Played phenomenal on the back. Unfortunately missed a 3 foot birdie putt on a side hill lie. Ended up on a 215 yard par 3 not taking enough club and dumping it into the water for a double. Finished with a birdie on 18 for a 38, playing the back 2 over. 11/14 on fairways and 10/18 on greens. Really a great round. I’d replay a hole or two different to elongate a double but outside of that I couldn’t be happier. I didn’t do anything great and really played simple golf. Lots of simple shots and good 2 putts. No 3 putts the whole round, which I love after practicing putting all week

  4. A few additions recently. Since I'm a putting headcase (and a putter ho...), decided to give this baby a shot. Wanted it quickly and roughly knew my specs (although with other putter styles...), so went to the L.A.B. outlet site -- a little more than I intended to spend, but the cheaper, comparable spec'ed putters all looked kinda beat up, so I went for it. Well... Must've been someone's cancelled custom order or something, because this thing came brand new, wrapped, stickers still on it, etc. First few putts on the BirdieBall look promising, so we'll see if it stacks up on the course (first time out will be Tuesday night). Then, snagged two of these copper Daly coins to use as ball marks (yes, had to censor it): And then... Picked up the PRGR monitor from SuperSpeed, intending to actually start using them again, but we'll see.

    How'd you play?

After the atrocity of my range session on Friday, I went in with pretty low expectations today. Went out in the heat of the afternoon and had a bit of a round. For one, I ended up losing my phone around the 4th hole so my normal score tracking app couldn't be used. Strangely enough, that might have helped as the only score keeping was my Shot Scope. It was only one shot better than my previous best, but I guess any personal best is a good day out there. I just didn't know about it until I got the round to sync off the device. Ended up going 42/43. It was not always pretty, but I mostly just did a good job of avoiding big numbers. One double on the front and 2 on the back. Four pars on each side and a number of fairly standard bogeys. Had a bit of a mental breakdown in the middle of the back going double, double, bogey, bogey. No real excuse for it other than just that I got kind of pissed about the guys behind me hitting into me a few times because I was waiting on the group in front of me. Best hole for me was #12 where I hit driver over the trees to cut the dog leg, leaving myself about 40 yards to the pin. Didn't do any better than a two putt par, but it was my longest drive of the day. The driver is definitely still a work in progress, but this was enough to give me hope that it can become something useful in my game. Positive note. My phone was found and returned. Realistically, I can see another few strokes coming off that if I can find myself in the fairway more instead of having to punch out under the trees so often. The swing is still coming along, but I'm in a much better mood than I was on Friday.

Had a breakthrough round today! The first day back from a week long cruise through the Caribbean, so I had no expectations after not touching a club for over a week. I shot my best score of 77, not my best swing but I was able to stay in play and get up and down. I didn’t even realize where I was score wise until 18 tee, but just focused on fairway and green like I was for the day. Looking forward to see where this can lead. Score: 77 FIR: 8/14 GIR: 10/18 PUTTS: 33

  7. Thank you to all who applied! We got an overwhelming amount of inquiries about the position and an amazing selection of candidates moving forward. All who applied will be notified if they have been selected for further follow up or not. Regardless we truly appreciate the time and effort that went into all the responses and applications and it just goes to show what a truly great community we have. For what its worth none of the decisions were/are easy and they are about to get a whole lot more difficult with the next stage. Selecting testers for tests is a walk in the park compared to this! We hope to have a decision and notice up for our new Mod Team member late next week or shortly there after. Again thank you very much to all who applied!

Monday Exec9, nastiest course in area. All holes all carry, wet even in drought!! I lost one ball 2nd hole the other 3 guys I didn’t bother to count. I didn’t feel comfortable over the ball all morning. Third hole had to give the other guys a “let’s go, ready golf” too much standing and whining. Didn’t keep any scores, too depressing.

  11. 411 yard, dogleg left Teeshot was hooked into the woods right before the corner. Red stakes so I took a drop. Grabbed my 4i, hit another low hook for about 190-200 yards, avoiding all trees on the way and saw it land about 3m from the pin... 1 putt to save par... one of the best 4i I've ever hit!

  12. Well, if I ever needed proof that consistency was my problem, today was it. I shot 89, which for me is not too bad. 45 front, 44 back, no 3 putts. However, for the 9 consecutive holes in the middle (6-14) I was only 1 over par (par, bogey, and then 7 consecutive pars). So to shoot 89, I had to shoot a combined 16 over on the other 9 holes. I don't think I've ever started a round so mediocre, only to turn it around and play great, and then go back to absolute garbage by the end. I really need to work on eliminating those big number holes. and keeping my swing under control.

    Sub70 golf

Just got back from a Trackman sesh with the new 659CBs, hit them great, unfortunately the bozo at Golf Galaxy set it up wrong so the data didn't upload into my account for comparison but the 6 iron to 6 iron from my fitting looked to be a few yard longer on the 659s than the Srixons. No complaints the clubs felt great and performed and felt very similar to the Srixon 7 and Apex Pro 21s I was hitting at my fitting a few weeks prior. The guys at Golf Galaxy were drooling over them a bit and asking a lot of questions about Sub 70 after watching me hit them (pretty slow day in there). No issue on dispersion either, saw a couple flyers that looked more like trackman data issues than real life, and the toe hits (my miss) only lost a few yards and generally looked playable. Hopefully I will be able to get them out on real grass here soon. But all indications as of now are these are the new gamers.

  19. i finally made par on the hardest hole at my club. #7 plays about 400 - 415 from the blues, par 4. its a dogleg right with houses on the right as well as trees. if you hit the ball anywhere left, even down the left side of the fairway, you leave yourself a long approach shot. Hit it too far right (and still in bounds) and you don't have a good angle to the green. 1. Hit a solid drive, fade down the right center of the fairway. 2. Had about 180 into the green, slightly uphill. Hit a 5 hybrid that landed softly on the green. 3. Lag putt 4. Made the par putt

  22. First off A sharpie on a blue putt putt ball! Is that the best you can do. Sheeeesh amateur hour. Secondly, I wouldn't worry about me getting laid. Have you ever looked at your profile picture? With a hat like that you couldn't even keep up with Santa and he only comes (spelling is not correct) once a year. So You know I was at the Spies Meet in Maryland outing. You know how many yellow balls were lost to the course. A special thanks to @cksurfdude for being a large contributor in that area. So you should know what I have been doing. I just got home from taking a new batch to the driving range to get them broken in for what lies ahead. Then I read this crap about not getting any and being a blue ball. Say hello to my little friends! And by the way there was a little mishap. Someone didn't come out just right. So I was thinking this could be yours. So in the slight chance you weren't wearing that ridiculous sombrero looking hat and met someone, you should show them your special ball. This way they will know not to expect much.

Stick Mobility Sticks - Actually purchased these thanks to my wife's recommendation. Anything to help keep/gain some flexibility as I get older.

  28. Got out around the rain and walked 18 in 2:30. It was easy when you're a single and the first one out. No holes were birdie holes today @chisagbut that doesn't mean I didn't make good swings. Shot 81, no doubles either, just sprayed the ball all over and my short game kept saving me. Iron play was terrible again.

  31. Early 605 tee time this morning. 3rd group off and I was just paired with another walking single. Great guy same age as me and was a pretty damn good golfer. Guess he had been struggling with his driver and has a driving iron and he smokes the thing (hit his driver on 1 hole and that was it), was impressive. We passed the two groups ahead of us by hole 8 and cruised to my kind of round, 3 hours 10 minutes and done. Struggled on the front with alignment, struggled pulling everything left and just could not get myself in a good position setup wise. Worked it out by hole 10 though. Luckily was hitting the ball well so I was just off greens. Around the green helped me out big time. 79 with 2 birdies, 9 pars, 5 bogeys and 2 doubles (both on the front). Was not long off the tee today but the back was throwing darts with the irons and put a handful of short irons/wedges to 5’ and finally started making a few birdie putts.

Love all the pictures of the pups! Joining in late, but here is a picture of Maddie, laying on the floor like a good girl, and her son, Buddy Guy, having taken over the couch. Adopted them from a rescue--Maddie was abused and was working hard getting past fear aggression when we lost her in her sleep 2 years ago. I have a Cuddleduds headcover for my driver in her likeness. Bubs is a 85 pound lap dog.

at that fitting i tried this years apex, which were good, something from ping, which were my worst, and then the 225s. the 225’s essentially matched my cf16’s with 500rpm higher spin numbers(4000 to 4500) and slightly better dispersion. same ball flight. not enough to outweigh the negative change in feel from the cf16’s. especially at cc prices. in my case, I would have definitely swiped the card if the feel and sound were what I expected from a mizuno. now i expect less, and each line they choose to deliver where they chase technology to the detriment of their core competencies, less still.

  36. Hi All - I have been a Shotscope guy for a few years- was also on Arccos but finally gave up on it despite the (then) superior data presentation. V3 has been AWESOME as an experience with only a few minor quibbles (including temporary H4) and some comments: 1) for true flat top grips, the sensors will not move and can even be difficult to remove, but form any rounded grips, I have seen them to be less stable. Lost my first sensor over the past 2-3 days while using Golf Pride CP2 PRO grips with the lightly rounded butt. I've seen the electrical tape thing, but shrink wrap might be an ever better approach. 2) I will try the non automatic putting soon - I have lived with putting adjustments, but wondering if that really cleans up the data fixes for me as much as some have commented in this thread 3) I sometimes struggle to understand HOW to use the data - Strokes gained helped me be more focused, but I feel like there are gold nuggets in there for me that I cannot easily use 4) Arccos has really solved for the putter grip sensor issue with their specific superstroke fitting thing - simple and elegant - luckily I don't use that grip type anymore but when I did it was very good and maybe something SS could look into. That said, I am seeing fewer and fewer superstroke type grips around in my travels 5) I like the V3 watch but was wondering about the H4 - so bought one from amazon as a test. As I had the Arccos Link, I had already contemplated things like jackets, clips etc. I went to the level of adding a carabiner thingy since ly link fell off one day and I had to use "find my link" feature - look like a complete fool (easy for me) walking backwards on the golf course. Sadly the H4, and the magnet made me nervous and I did find it got dislodged more than once per round. Folks here said they kept It in there pocket - I thought it needed to have satellite "visibility" to function and this set of comments made me wonder. 6) H4 was a disaster for me in terms of tapping - I just could not find a way to easily inject it into my pre shot routine. I have questionable concentration at the best of times, but this experience showed me my grooved pre shot routine was impenetrable by the H4, sadly. That said, as above, I will try the manual putting option to see if that tightens up my putting data and reduces edits 7) as often mentioned, SS has superb customer support - it is truly an experience that I wish I could get from other companies 8 Has anyone found the end of the battery life for the V3? And I mean, won't charge anymore, need new watch etc? 9) Love the evolution of the data, notwithstanding I don't fully get how to best use it all - the PDFs etc are helpful, but ..... 10) When I order tags, watchbands, extra charger cables they arrive FAST to me here in Canada - they must have a local depot or something - crazy fast 11) love the fact you can have as many clubs/tags as you wish - I love trying different clubs and have been able to use the tags to help with product selection, in playing circumstance. What I don't understands is the relationship of the tags to the app data. I know that I can set up "my bag". So my driver is my PxG Proto 9.5 wth a D Tag. I also have a Callaway Maverick Sub Zero, also with a D Tag. I have seen references to the tag having a specific ID which is mapped during shot capture, but it seems like it might be more simple, like, if you ma a D tag in "your bag", and if a D Tag is found in a shot, then it uses the "my bag" mapping versus any thing like a tag technical ID, for example. Does anyone know? I know it might not matter, but t seems like if the specific TAG ID was captured, you would not need to "set up" your bag, meaning the tag IDs could do that themselves through data. Does this make any sense? 12) Wanted to love the H4, could not. I guess for just non-putts, if I remembered to tap often enough, it would be good. But for putting, it seemed very strange to have to carry this H4 around for tapping etc. Maybe someone could share their process flow of how they truly use an H4 successfully Lastly, this thread and the comments in it, have been fun and informative to read. And its nice the SS is participating - thank you Gavin. Thank you all for the entertainment in this shot tracking journey

  38. There must be something in the air lately for lefty putters. I've liked my Odyssey White Hot Pro 1 blade putter for a while, but I had been struggling with alignment and leaving putts short as of late. I knew I wanted to at least try something new if for no other reason than to mix up my putting practice routine. I looked at a few mallet putters but eventually decided to give the Odyssey Two-ball Ten a try. For one, it's about as different from my blade as I could get while still keeping the feel that the Odyssey face insert provides. For another, I'm a lefty golfer but right-hand dominant. I suspected this might lend itself well to an armlock putter since it would be locked into my dominant hand. Even so, I was somewhat hesitant to make the purchase. I tried a non-armlock two-ball putter at DSG a few weeks ago and absolutely hated how the putter looked at address. However, the benefit of the two-ball alignment was immediately apparent and I felt it was very easy to aim. I fully swallowed my pride once I noticed the putter on sale for $100 off MSRP at PGA superstore. I practiced on my puttout mat in the basement and the improvement over my blade was so immediate and apparent that I audibly yelled "wow!" I took 10 shots each at 1 foot intervals from one to five feet away. Not only did I make all fifty shots, but I was making "perfect" putts roughly 20% of the time. I took it out on the course the next day and finally felt like the ball was going where I was aiming. I'll spend some time this week playing more in the five to ten foot range to help with my distance control at longer range. I still have work to do in improving my reads, but its deeply satisfying to feel like I can get the ball do what I intend. I might not always make the right read, but at least my misses aren't a compound problem of both poor reads and stroke quirks. As an added bonus, the grip accepts the Shot Scope putter tags that my blade's SuperStroke grip does not . I'm very excited for my putting future!

  39. Went to the course late afternoon and ended up as more practice than play. It was very slow so we jumped around after 6 and played 4 more. After playing my tee ball I was dropping a few on each hole from the 70 - 90 yard range to try a variety of shots with the new SM9. I thought it would take a while to swap out the gamer wedge while i dialed in the 1/2 & 3/4 feel shots but I had no issue controlling distance on those shots yesterday. And they were stopping at the ball mark rather than rolling out like the old 53* has been doing. I will do some more backyard practice with it today at the 65 yard mark and if I have the same good results it will go in the bag for league play tomorrow. If I have been browsing the Sub 70 wedge offerings does that mean I started "thinking" about a 50* to replace my worn 49* ??!!
