Will have to see how it does tomorrow....hopefully I find a place to hit it When considering angle of attack, the 1.5 degree difference is quite small and according to my garmin data over a year, my Stealth 16.5* averaged 233 and the 2 3 woods fixed at 15* was 244 for my Yamaha RMX and 239 for My Exotics EXS Pro 15*. However, the consistency or standard deviation of the average was lower or more consistent with the 16.5 loft. Overall, if you struggle with 3 woods off the deck like the majority of the world, a 16.5* or adjustable 3 wood with added loft will serve the majority of people much better. The Callaway trade-in bonus should be available at any "brick & mortar" store which sells Callaway clubs, as they would have a Callaway account. Doesn't have to be a specific Dick's Sporting Goods or Golf Galaxy. Popular Post rkj427
Well as I mentioned we lost power Wednesday night and it was out almost 23 hours, so Thursday to beat the heat and humidity, I took SWMBO and headed to Carl's Golfland, more to see some people I know there and to hit a few clubs. I did make an online purchase earlier this year for some Mizuno irons for my son to play. He would rather fish than golf, and so I thought I would see if I could either sell them there, or use them for the Callaway promotion. I only paid $400.00 for the irons, and honestly was a little shocked when the trade value of them was $480.00 with the double bonus making it $960.00. Spent some time warming up, unlike any of the rounds I played at Kingsmill, and then thought about comparing the Smoke Max and Smoke TD. I am friends with a fitter there, so using the grass tee area and Trackman went through a couple of shaft changes, more due to the fact that I am borderline between flexes as far as swing speed and profiles go but have a quicker transition. Started with the Project X Black in 6.0 as the EI profile on this model has a slightly softer mid-section than the Hzrdus I play in fairways and hybrid. I hit it OK, but the launch and height were not where they needed to be. Second shafts attempted were Tensei AV Blue 55 in both R and S. R flex was too high launch and too high spin, S flex in 55 had better launch but just a touch too much spin. Swapped to Tensei AV Blue in 65 S and all numbers were more or less ideal for my 97mph speed. This was in a 9-degree head, the 10.5 would have been an option with the Project X shaft, but those numbers were not as good as the Tensei set-up. Then hit the TD 3 wood in similar shaft but 75 grams and again ideal numbers and from what i could tell comparable to my TSR3. So, with the $960.00 trade-in allowance, I also had a $100.00 gift card from them received when I retired, and the difference would have been about $50.00 or so including tax. Not wanting to leave without using the whole gift card amount and have an irregular balance, I also bought a dozen Pro V1's and my total out of pocket after the trade-in, and gift card was $3.15. Sorry for the dark pictures, it was late here, and I used camera flash so they at least would show-up. Hoping to get them on the course on Monday. The golf shaft ei profile site, don’t remember the URL and don’t feel like searching, is probably the best source of info since they measure the shafts the same way. Yeah, thats the source I use, though its become members only for pay recently. It measures bend point in inches from the tip with lower suggesting a higher launch and vice versa. That measurement, cfm of overall shaft (esp tip, mid and butt) and weight are the most significant stats when assessing probable staff performance *when testing with a robot. But that shaft review testing does point out the most significant in assessing launch is bend point and tip stiffness. I understand humans are not robots, but knowing the bend point location and the tip, mid, and butt stiffness can certainly help you find a shaft that will launch higher or lower, all things considered equal. I like a mid stiffness butt, softer middle and stiff tip in general, and weight range. So if you can read the shaft profiles, you can rule out shafts that likely wont fit your preference and ones that likely will. Especially when you standardize testing among them all. If you were fitted for a shaft but dont want to spend $600 for some Oban shafts you can look up that shaft profile, then seek a similar profile. Same if you tried a shaft at the store or one you previously owned that you really liked. In general I think we agree, but with the caveat that the vast majority of shafts labeled high launch, typically measure similar in the profiles. I also tried on some Skechers golf shoes to see how they fit since I see them on sale from time to time. They were so comfortable and I thought about picking them up, but am looking for a different color than white. I'll have to check places like Golfetail or Golf Discount to see what they have. Try Dicks website for clearance. I got a pair of Skechy Lynx shoes for $48 incl Calif sales tax and shipping. Fit me perfect. Might get a 2nd at that price. (My thumbs are tired from typing the name.) I have not yet had range time with it but have played 27 holes now and results have been excellent. I hope to get to the range later this morning to test some different shafts and dial in the weights. I am very excited about this driver and its combination of distance and forgiveness. Also, several of you have heard me rave about the results I get with my vintage Hogan wedges in my backup set. After playing that set again Friday, and holing out from 30 yards with a sand wedge and hitting a bunch more close, I picked up two more vintage Hogan wedges to try in my gamer set. Both for less than the cost of one of my Cleveland wedges (which will fight to stay in the bag). These are eBay pics; will post more when the wedges are in-hand. I have the same chrome Hogan Sure Out. Love that sole, weighs in at 3 pounds, I think, like a 15 inch bass. Might not be the most accurate sandy but is very reliable. I am on my 2nd. I keep thinking I should buy a bunch of them and donate to a local range teacher who teaches lots of kids. (I also use a very vintage Don Martin chipper.) cksurfdude, Northern Monkey, IndyBonzo and 3 others 4 2 Quote #1 PXG 0211 10.5 deg, Evnflo Riptide CB 40 gram A flex. 3W: Callaway Steelhead Xr, Tensei Blue CK 55 gram A flex. 5W : Titleist TSi 1, Aldila Ascent 40 regular flex. I liked the Paradym woods I played last season, so I’m sure this one will work out great for you Got the club out to the course today; I loved the ball flight and it was easy to hit. Hit a few off the tee and hit one from the fairway (not a great place to try but it was the 18th hole and distance seemed about right) and it was definitely higher than my TS3 was launching the ball. Sweet! Sounds like you found a good one. The mini driver is fun to hit, but isn’t very practical otherwise, so I may be in the market for a new 3 wood at some point this summer. sirchunksalot, cksurfdude, Rob Person and 9 others 12 Quote WITB: D: G430 Max 10k 10.5° turned up 1° w/ GD Tour AD-UB 6s 3w: 14.5° G425 Max Newton 6 dot 3h: G430 18° Tour 2.0/Stiff 7W: 21° Rogue ST Max LinQ 7X 4i: Pro 225 with Project X io 6.0 5i-PW: Blueprint S with DG S300 50,54° & 58°: SM-10 P: Link.1 Ball: Pro Plus Drip Bag: Ghost MGS Anyday 14 way "And so, we beat on, boats against the current, borne ceaselessly into the past." - Fitzgerald ” The woods are lovely, dark and deep, But I have promises to keep, And miles to go before I sleep, And miles to go before I sleep.” - Frost "That you are here—that life exists and identity, That the powerful play goes on, and you may contribute a verse." - Whitman
