yungkory
Gauss nailed it. Lately my miss has been pull hooks hitting the ball off the heel. A "good" shot is usually a block. Any ideas for drills to help with coming over the top? I also wonder a little bit if a different head/shaft combination would help me out. Would like to fix swing issues first though. Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy I used to fight a pretty big fade that would slice if I compounded my swing with a heel strike -- part of it was swing, the other part was too soft of a shaft, which just compounded things even further. The way I helped myself to fix it was to make swings where I felt like I was going around my body more. Exaggerating it in my practice like a baseball swing almost, but keeping that feeling in actual shots. It also helped me keep my hands lower (watch Rory's swing, I always thought high hands = higher power). On the down swing, I would try to keep the feeling that my right elbow was going to clip my right hip almost. Maybe sticking a headcover in your right armpit would help you retain that feeling? Once you come over the top, your right arm will become "disconnected" from your body and fall out. You can see what I was working on a few weeks ago on the previous page. YouTube viewing tip - you can pause with spacebar and use , & . to go frame by frame when people don't upload slow motion shots. Your swing is solid, and I like it. The video editing was solid as well! gaussman1
So I took the advice from Plaid in another thread and got the Michael Breed book on video analysis. Haven't made it too far into it but I've got a few takeaways to apply. 1. Think I'm standing too close to the ball. My arm angle at address is way too wide. IMG_4272.PNG 2. I'll try your other tip about moving the ball forward a scoche. Somehow it always works its way back in my stance and I have to pull my arms in to get to it. IMG_4273.PNG 3. I fight this problem throughout the bag of taking it back too far. I should stop here: IMG_4277.PNG But end up here: IMG_4278.PNG Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy Stud I don't know that your ball position is much of an issue. Yes it's back a little relative to your left foot, but we don't really care about the left foot as much as the left shoulder. You're basically under the left shoulder which is fine. It could move up a ball width from there to encourage swinging up a touch more but nothing drastic. Someone else in the thread recommend the head cover under the right armpit drill and I think that's spot on. Looks like the lifting of the right elbow at the end of the back swing is your culprit here. Getting that thing to stay in it's position better will move you into a more rounded turn at the top, which should put you in a better position to attack from the inside. STUDque
I made it a few more chapters into the book and it talked heavily about ball position in relation to your spine, not your feet. Then I received this comment on my Hudl video. While well intentioned, it did give me a little laugh since the information from Gauss, Shanks, Kory, and Breed made much more sense. Ball stays put, arm pit needs to stay connected. Once I started swinging more around my body and keeping my elbow in, I got a lot more consistency. I figure the best place for that level of detail would be its own thread since this thread is just "post your swing." While an analysis of my swing is mostly only valuable to me, there may be other spies with similar issues that could benefit. I spent a good portion of yesterday reading a section then analyzing then collected screenshots. Now I'm getting to the downswing portion of the book and I'll post the full analysis once I finish. Little bit more work to do on that but I can see I'm already limiting the over-the-top move that it promoted. Biggest difference is I'm actually horizontal at the top vs going way past.
