Play the tees that allow you to have the best chance to reach the greens in regulation, even if you don't hit your career drive on every hole.

Who wants to shoot 94 every week? I'd much rather have a few birdie chances every round.

Agree

We try to “sell” that concept here in FL but some of the guys believe they can still play like they did in their 30's. They definitely can if they move to the correct tee box for their current game.

Or, if they grab one of these G400 Max's. That bad boy'll take a few years off your tee game!

I fully understand the pace of play on golf courses. But I also think the constant demand to make higher handicappers play quicker makes them not enjoy golf. This is why the game is having issues with growth and # of rounds played each year.

More players would play if they did not feel the stress of having to rush their shots on each hole. Unfortunately it can be attributed to our must have it now society.

In my mind golf is a great game because it gets you outdoors with friends or like minded people, in most cases, and it's a time to enjoy the game but also being in Gods great outdoors!

Love the article.  Ego is no longer a factor at my age.  I'm just trying to enjoy the game now.  I average 200 off the tee and typically play 5600 to 5800 yard tees - a bit longer than the article suggests.  Problems I see - courses don't have enough tee boxes to accommodate the suggested brackets, especially for the ladies.  MANY courses I play have the most forward tees playing at 5000 yards.  My wife is a decent player and needs tees at about 4000 yards to be able to hit greens in reg.  That means that some folks (men or women) would have to follow the Barney Adams Tee-it-Forward model and tee it from some spot in the fairway to get the course yardage that matches their tee distance.  I think at the very least, more courses need to add teeing areas that are in the low 4K yardage.

Approximately once a month the local newspaper prints about 1/2 page in the Sports Section dedicated to slow play and helpful info. There is a list of tips on etiquette and hints you can do to help speed up your play. It's actually pretty good because we have lot of people just taking up the game and they are clueless.

I believe we have 5 tee boxes plus an added tee box called “Friendly Tees”. The page lists what tee should be played with your avg drive distance. From what I can tell most folks do try and adhere to the suggestions.
