Popular Post Byrnzee
Good morning Spies! Had a busy day at work yesterday, so I wasn't able to get out to the range afterwards as I originally planned. Hoping to be able to do so today, but thunderstorms this afternoon/evening might put a damper on that as well. Spent a lot of time practicing my swing at home in the mirror, but I definitely need some more range practice with all of the golf I have planned this month (I just counted and I'm tentatively looking at 8 rounds in June). Might look at getting my irons regripped before my big trips at the end of the month as well. Another busy day at work ahead. Second cup of coffee in hand and ready for a productive Tuesday! Popular Post Merlin1313
Good Mornin Y'all. Finally got some sim time (gonna hit the range sometime soon) and get ready for our first Faculty/Staff tournament of the year. It's on the toughest course of the rota(Colbert Hills)- hechuva way to start the season- it's all down hill from there. Apparently TW had something to do with the planning of the course (his dad is buried not too far away). It's definitely a tough course, but fair- just think of a links course in Kansas(complete with "gentle breezes"). If you miss the fairway- don't bother looking for your ball. It gets sucked up in the fescue and other wonderful things that line the fairways. Hope everyone has an awesome day and nothin but fairways and greens. Popular Post EnderinAZ
Good morning spies! Had a mediocre round yesterday. Drove the ball well, iron work was okay, chipping could have been better, putting was inside of a quarter of an inch off. 6 edge of the hole putts where the ball changed direction as it rolled past the cup, but did not fall in and three putts that went in the hole and back out again due to too much speed. I have been reading Every Shot Counts, a book by the guy who invented the strokes gained matrix. He says for pros and amateurs over all putts are worth about 15% of your total round. The other 85% are the other shots. So I had 8 putts that could have gone in, so 8 strokes. I also had a ball that went out (brain fart), two fat pitch shots, two skulled chips (on the same darn hole) that ended up with a triple. And some other issues. The thing is all of the non putting errors had the potential for greatness. The missed putts, just one stroke. I am not sure if the author is correct about strokes gained, but I do now see his point about counting putts. This requires more golf and research. A grey, wet, windy day here in north east England so could be an interesting round this afternoon. Played a nice little course yesterday on our way up to our tournament. Very picturesque but quite tight and the greens were unbelievably slow which made for quite a few 3 putt holes. Didn’t play too badly but those greens put paid to a decent score. This was one of my colleagues on the tee. Hoping that I can play better today and get in shape for the competition which starts in earnest tomorrow. Popular Post ILMgolfnut
Good morning Spies! Back at it in Philly. Very busy early, nothing for the last 30 minutes so have caught up on some other work that had been put aside and got some more studying in. Nothing golf-oriented today although I'm planning to get in some treadmill work at the hotel to prepare for all the walking I'll be doing in no-carts-allowed Scotland next month (leaving one month from today!). So I guess that's golf related. Last night's FFG workout really dinged my shoulder. I guess I'm going to have to omit or greatly modify exercises that the shoulder doesn't like. Not much good working out if it messes up my golf, or anything else. I've found my shoulder doesn't like schlepping luggage through the airport either, but that's an easy fix -- do the luggage with my left arm. cksurfdude, Josh Parker, Merlin1313 and 11 others 14 Quote Obsessed with chasing the dimpled orb. Opening the site this AM and saw the article about the new Wilson Staff Utility Irons and man do they look good! Wilson irons have definitely caught my eye in the past year and I will be looking to try these out! I am a big fan of a utility iron as hybrids often fly too high for me in the Oklahoma wind. Currently, I am gaming a Sub 70 699u v2 that I love. Prior to that I had the Srixon ZX which wasn't my favorite, but not at all bad! Popular Post Jim Shaw
Good morning spy's Back in Sooke this morning and have some time to critique my tournament this past weekend. I believe it is valuable to do this then move on. 80-76 is not a good performance for me, on the course I grew up on, in a familiar environment, staying with family and generally comfortable in all areas, outside of the game, which I find important when I travel. A couple of takeaways from my performance, I focused too much on this being my 49th year I have played in this tournament instead of focusing on performance, and I was overswinging, in every aspect of my game except chipping and putting. My competitive nature always creeps in when my peers are outdriving me and I swing too hard an get out of my rhythm. I am really dissapointed but I am able to get right back on the horse this coming weekend in another tournament so I will take my critique into that event. cksurfdude, Byrnzee, jbern and 12 others 14 1 Quote committed to performance excellence
Popular Post EasyPutter
Good morning MGSpies from a sunny must be finally summer WNY on the first day back from the Kingsmill meetup, having had experience from previous trips knowing the day after returning is still a recovery day to not be spent as a workday. CPAP recorded 10.3 hours so rest was needed after wife reminded me yesterday was first Monday of the month and family band performance at the open mic, old neighborhood bar - with 2 numbers featuring sax I made the effort but a couple slow fingers on keys proved I'm just there for fun and won't make a living playing music. Today is getting the camping gear out and put away from the days before the meetup ended with showers, the only rain during the meetup weekend until showers reappeared on the drive out of Williamsburg. Popular Post Shrek74
Good morning, Spies!! Well, mid-morning at this point. Got back from the MGS Forum Outing yesterday around 1:30pm local time, then spent the rest of the day unpacking and trying to motivate myself to gear up for the impending work week. Granted, it's a short week. But it's still a work week. Trying to get back into my good routines while also trying to not get back into my bad ones. That's always difficult after a nice little vacation like I just had. Also, trying to turn my brain back on to the "work channel" isn't the easiest thing to do either. Besides, I'm ready to retire now instead of 12 years from now. Still a bit rainy here and I was hoping with the calendar turning to June it might stop. It looks better on the 10 day, but still too much rain for my taste at this point of the year/golf season. Although technically Tuesday, it's Monday for me.
