Current bag set-up

Recommended Posts

Hi all, new to this forum. Want to start a discussion on what people think the best bag set up is? I.e. what clubs people are gaming.

Currently my bag consists of:

  • Driver : Cobra SZ
  • 3wood: Cobra SZ
  • 3 hybrid Cobra forged tec
  • 5-PW mizuno 921 forged
  • 52,56,60 cobra min wedges
  • And ofcourse a flat stick

It's the shots on the 18th which keeps you coming back.

Best bag setup and what clubs people are using don’t always mean the same.

The best bag setup is what works for the golfer. It’s what gives them the best gapping with the optimal ball flight for what they are trying to do with each club.

some people don’t play the best setup, some have close to a good setup and others maybe not at all because of how they buy clubs. None of its right or wrong as long as the person is happy and enjoys the game.

I have 3 different bags and will swap wedges or the top of the bag depending on what clubs I feel like playing and what course I’m playing.

I'll be honest there are so often changes in my bag that it's hard to say what is best. It flows and often some clubs work better than others and the following week it is a different animal.

You have a great setup! I'm not a 52/56/60 guy tho and much prefer 50/54/58 for my uses.

My bag changes about once every 2 years. As a senior (78), I don't think it's clubs that matter so much as physical ability. Seniors lose distance once they hit 65, and  lose a lot of distance once they reach 70.  How to maintain distance without losing accuracy is the big challenge. And my pet peeve is that they call seniors once they reach 50, while everyone else calls seniors once they reach 65.

I'm probably going to change out my wedges and move to a 50/54/58 setup as well. I play the GW more from the fairway and feel like I have to much gap between my PW and GW at 52. Plus I just like to spend money on golf equipment, lol.

Hi guys,

New to the forum as well as the OP. I'm a 19 Handicapper and swing my driver around 103-105mph

I tend to be a bit "fluid" with my bag, can't turn down a bargain on shiny "new" clubs (love an eBay bargain). My current bag has been relatively static for a few months now and I had a lot of lessons over winter and my handicap is steadily dropping, although i'm getting fitted for a new driver tonight so we will see!

Driver - Titleist TSi2 shafted with Oban devotion, although had a Fujikura Motore F1 in X flex before which I loved and broke at my last range session 😞

5w - Sim2 5w with Hzrdous blue

7w - Callaway UW in 21 degrees with Hzrdous black rdx

3i - Mizuno Fli Hi (new one) in 19 degrees with Project X Steel Shaft

4i-PW Mizuno MP20 HMBs with Shamada tour mid shafts

51, 56 - Mizuno S18 with DG S300 - Honestly tried newer wedges but keep coming back to these

60 - Cleveland 588 RTX - Collects dust, use it once every 3-4 rounds. Normally take it out to make room for the 3i

P - Evnroll ER2

Ball: Currently kirkland v2 but find them a bit spinny.

I fall into the same wedge category as you as it just seems to fit my game just a little bit more. I have to ask though, what flat stick do you use? I am kind of a putter junkie so I have to know!

I use a odyssey Dualforce 222.. was my grandads so probably will not never change it. It does need refurbing if you can point me in the right direction?

It's the shots on the 18th which keeps you coming back.

Just a general uplift, polishing, repainting and if possible maybe replacing the insert

  • 2 weeks later...

Changed mine uo today. Felt clunky I had my putter in the bottom middle slot. Moved it to the top right. It feels much cleaner now. All 3 wedges bottom slot

So excited to get my Jones MGS bag yesterday from GolfSpy_BOS. I wasn't sure if 5 slots would work for me but I like how it is set up. I think the umbrella will stay in the truck most days though! The bag is much lighter than my old one and fits well on the pushcart. I can see myself carrying this bag for 9 holes!!!!

I believe your bag set up is always a work in process.  it’s also what you feel comfortable with as well.

For me, it can change over the year and can also be course / conditions dependent.  Also some weeks I have good club head speed, some days I don’t.

I like borrowing a GC Quad to get my gapping checked every so often to make sure I have the right lofts throughout my bag.  Also it’s a good test for loft and lies of my irons as well.

I stil don’t think I have the right make up near the top of my bag.  I waiver between a 5W, Hybrid 19 / 21 deg, 2 iron, 4 iron…  I have been playing Hybrid and 2 iron, but in some conditions the gapping is quite close.
