Beautiful fall day, sunny and temperatures in the low 50’s (12* C).   Hardly anyone there in the afternoon so my wife and I were able to finish the round in 3 hours. As a result got into a very nice rhythm. Nothing spectacular, just a very solid and enjoyable round, 1 birdie, 15 pars and 2 bogies. Lots of good scrambling with short game and putter saving me on numerous holes. Even better, my wife shot an 83, one off her low round of the year.

Had two absolutely outstanding back to back 9 hole rounds yesterday and today. First time I’ve ever felt like I was in control of my game for the majority of the time I was on the course. The outdoor season is coming to a close here in Wisconsin so hoping to carry it all over through the winter into next year. I have worked HARD at improving this year, and it feels good to feel like it is translating to lower scores. Don’t expect low 80s every round, but damn if it isn’t good to know I CAN do it. Hoping it’ll drop my handicap nicely, too!

My regular broup has turned into fair weather players, and shut it down for the year. I therefore haven't touched the clubs for two weeks, and it really showed this morning. I got off early for a solo round, and I'm glad there were no witnesses. At least on the back nine I hit a couple of really good shots (wedge and 4H) that resulted in kick in birdies, so I was reminded that I'm not all that bad.

First round back after 3 weeks away from the game. Front nine started abysmally with a snowman on the par-4 first. I hit into two different bodies of water...

Managed to settle down on the back with 5 GIRs, 4 pars and 2 doubles for a 43, but the damage was done after Hole 1.

In other news, the tweaks to my putter are definitely showing progress! My alignment is much better now and I'm able to start the ball on my intended line - which means I now need to unlearn all the subconscious adjustments I've been making for the past 2 decades with this putter.

Been here 3 years and finally played a Pinehurst course. I have some gift certificate left, so next it'll be #3 or #5. Played pretty well, and if I didn't hook the hell of out of my driver all day and score a triple on 18, could've been a lot better. Other than a 216 yard par 3, it's a pretty short course, and the 80 year olds I played with were a good group.

Partly cloudy, breezy, and mid 70's for temperature on October 27 in Michigan made it a great day to be out on the course. Played with a co-worker and his wife, and SWMBO came along for the ride and to socialize. Course was crowded, but with this weather here it is easily understandable.

Played extremely well on the front 9, the wind increased in speed as the afternoon moved along, and some iron shots I played were to limit any big scores, rather than taking a club which could have led to trouble spots around the greens.

Also had 2 penalty strokes on the back 9 due to not being able to find the balls in the fairways due to both the large amount of leaves, and soft, mushy ground in spots. That happened on holes 13 and 18, and without those strokes would have had an even better score.

Hit 10 of 14 fairways, 9 of 18 greens, and had a total of 31 putts.

Twelfth day of the latest injury. Actually, that’s today. I only made it 6 holes. This round I’m posting was on day 10 when I played it. I injured my left knee and other stuff last week. Just bumps and bruises. I thought I was mending fine until on day 11 my swollen left knee turned dark purple overnight. On the back of my thigh was completely dark purple like it settled while lying down. Lividity like in a dead body. 

The doctor said based on the color and pattern that among other things I tore some muscles around my knee, but seemed to be heeling nicely but shouldn’t play golf. So my best round of the week was Wednesday. 

Following the doctor’s advice, I quit after 6 holes today.

This morning I thought, “I don’t want to sit here this afternoon when I could be playing golf.” Then after 3-4 holes I thought, “why am I out here struggling when I could be sitting at home comfortably.”  

But it is not seriously injured and should be back out next Wednesday.

For the last two weeks we've had 20-30 mph winds blowing constantly.  Throw in my recent trigger finger and I haven't scored very well lately.  Today, I played a bit better.  

My driver was fairly consistent.  I hit over 70% of the fairways and my misses were close and even both left and right.  My approach fairway woods were acceptable but my approach iron shots left a lot to be desired!  Only one green in regulation which typically points to me not hitting the shortest of the par 3's in regulation.   Four up and downs is about right for me.  I made a slight change in my putting stance and my overall putting improved.   I had three good two putts from 37 ft., 42 ft. and 55 ft.  

I've seemed to have found a temporary grip that doesn't seem to aggravate my newly found trigger finger.  I'm still three plus weeks away from seeing an orthopedic PA on potential solutions.  I've ordered some Tumeric supplements to see if it helps reduce the overall inflammation in my hand's tendon.  I'd cross my fingers to not have to have surgery....if I could cross them!

I am glad that I got to play earlier this week due to finding out that I tested positive for covid on Thursday and it's laying low for me.  My Front 9 I hit 6/7 FW and 5/9 GIR's and my short game was on fire. Back 9 was 3/7 FW and 4/9 GIR. 

I need to focus more on hitting center of the green instead of shooting at the pin.  Most of my missed greens are just off the green.

Man I am jealous if those of you in the warmer areas.  I drives me crazy that I haven't played in 4-weeks; almost played Monday, but it was mod-50s, overcast and windy and soggy from a couple of days of rain so I (probably wisely) decided it was a no go.  I should get some rounds in next week or so and then start getting some rounds in while traveling to the warmer weather areas of the country. Winter sucks!

One of the last remaining days of Fall in Indiana required a PTO day from work  Nice Gary Player-designed course on the southwest-side of Indy.

Windy would be a understatement...constant 10-15 MPH wind with gusts topping 25 MPH made club selection tough & some humorous ball flights 

Gained shots off the tee & with approaches = finally an off-season with no foreseeable changes to the bag 

Lost shots in the short game & with putting can be recaptured (we're talkin' 'bout practice) 

Two huge drives (for me) of 310 yards & 286 yards were DEFINATELY wind-aided!!

Overall, it's been a good season of SOBER golf & my winter training should make for a solid start next season. I hope to squeeze-out one more round before Indiana's handicap cut-off (11/15/2023)
