Okay, one of my soggier adventures in golf. I think it’s bad when my footprints in the fairway are filling up with water. But I will say that it is one of the most beautiful golf courses in the Bay Area.

This was my home course back in the day, and it’s why I fell in love with golf.

My game? The back nine fared better than the front. Only parred once, while coming close too many times. I just couldn’t find the rhythm. Next week, I’ll be on the sim, and I’ll be interested to see how I do after being away for a 10 days.

My best round in a long time, and on my former home course. My driver was a little erratic at the start, but everything else was on point. Been waiting for this to happen for a long while.

Finally a good round! A solid three under! I am not going to shoot the 200 net net birdies of the higher handicaps (whose handicaps never seem to lower) and I probably won’t win the tournament with my handicap. However, this was a great round! I hit 17 greens and the one green I missed I got up and down. Hit a par 5 in two and two putted for birdie. This round had no bogeys! Only 31 putts and much better putting round. A really low round is coming!

And he’s back. Great round. Wait until you get the new driver and putter really dialed in. Well done Javs.

What a round! Everything was working. My swing is starting to feel good again and I'm getting some distance back. Despite the front nine being 30 mph wind that always seemed to be a crosswind that pushed my ball near trouble, I managed to keep all my shots relatively safe. 

I even managed to get a "hole" in one!  I actually had to look up the ruling on something like this and it looks like I get relief according to Rule 16 since it's a burrowing animal hole (beaver in this case). Needless to say, I made a trip back to the cart for my ball grabber so I didn't lose it further in.

Course itself is pretty and in decent shape. We have a vote in November for a bond in order to get the greens redone but I'm not hopeful.  Bond for the irrigation is already approved.  The use all the affluent water so it has a ton of potential and used to be a great course.

Have no choice but to figure it out!  Ha. I'm kinda scared of what will happen on good greens and how it will affect my putting. 

There are a few holes that depending on pin location I try to miss the green so I can chip to the pin.  My short game is one of my strong points and it pays off on this course.

That's the hope. Learning to read multiple breaks and humps should help in the long run.

Did about as well as expected, but putting was terrible.  Very unforgiving greens, could not get the speed down, they were fast!  Missed a few putts that I normally wouldn't have, and pin position was in about the toughest places they could find.  Shortgame was missing, as leaving a long putt was pretty much going to get you in trouble.  Had 11 more putts than average for this course.

Highlight was mis-hitting an 8-iron shot at the green over water on par 5 #13.  Skipped it three times and found it resting on the other side of the pond perched on a tuft of grass.   A bad footing chip with front foot above the ball and back foot on a wiggly rock got it over the nutria and onto the green for a bogey.

Sometimes holding together a round when you don’t have your best stuff is the most rewarding.

This weeks Trackman SIM course takes us to the desert and La Quinta, California playing at the Hideaway - Clive Clarke course. Visually stunning.  Even played well although short game saved my butt again. 

 

I have never played a sim round. Looks fun!

When you live in Canada, you have no other choice in the winter.  The beauty of Trackman is that it allows me to work on my game and play some pretty cool courses from across the world.

Yes, seems to be a thing in the colder climates. I like the idea of being able to use the Trackman. Seems like a better way to get in your off season practice!

Lately, I'm getting the impression that the worse the weather, the better I play!  Tuesday it was cold with 30 mph winds and I shot 83.   Thursday, the weather was better and I shot 87.  Today, we had rain for about a third of the holes and I shot an 81.

It was an unusual round for me.  

I had a great driving day.  I only missed one fairway and it was by two feet.  My performance average drives were about 180 yards with a longest drive being 191 yards (which is good for me).  I hit double (4) the normal greens in regulation.  What gave me hope was that one was on a par 4 and another on a par 5.  My up and downs were slightly below average at 4.  The round only took 28 putts as I one putted 8 times.  Though I had two sandy pars, on our par 4 fifth hole, I went from one trap, across the green to another trap and then back to the trap I hit out of first.  Not pretty, but we've all been there!

Overall, I was pretty happy with the day.  I had positive strokes gained in tee and approach shots and three plus strokes gained with my putter.  The negative strokes gained in my chipping was a little unusual.

This was a good week.  Hopefully next week I can keep it up!
