Looks like more indoor testing for me.

With 9 straight days of rain and then the hurricane on top of that it sure did a number on the course. 
Would you believe that members are bitching that the course has closed a couple times in the past few days.

If that's the Cobra on the left, the Vice look HUGE in comparison if they're the same iron number. It looks like there's more meat from the hosel to the scoring lines on the Vice but similar toe size/length. The Vice look taller too, at least in the picture.

The Cobra is on the left and I used the same iron number for direct comparison. The heights are the same though.

The front 9 was dry enough for play this morning. The VGI01 irons are still doing well with the combination of the Vice Pro Air ball.  Nice higher ball flight and dropping and landing softly with minimal roll out. I will say the PW, 9, and 8 are strutting their stuff lately with a lot of birdie looks. I won’t bore you with more ball marks and ball sitting by the pin photos today. I had to get done playing as quick as I could. Mosquito fest was on strong with some requesting permission from the tower for landing. I swear I thought I saw one with a saddle on its back.
I finally got to use the Vice Gap Wedge. Now that baby was hot right out of the gate. I had two 100 yard approaches and they were within a few feet of the pin. I also had two chips with it. One lipped out for a tap in birdie. The other left me with a one foot putt for par. So far so good for its maiden voyage. 
It didn’t take long to get used to the full face grooves.

Finished with two under for 9 with three birdies.

I’ve been curious about Vice Pro Air.  How does it compare to your usual ball?

Did a round with the new irons today. Played a 2 v 2 team scramble. 

How the round went

Front nine were a bit of a wash, we were three behind the other team. 

Back nine was amazing, we seemed to turn into back nine bandits and ended 6 ahead.

 

How the clubs performed

So I overall felt that I didn't do the clubs justice to start with. On the front nine I couldn't have bought a good shot. It's not down to the clubs, it was 1000% down to me.

I was spraying left and right like an incontinent fire hose. For the first time on the course going from steel shaft to graphite seems to be something I need to get used to. 

On the back 9 I seemed to settle down a little and pulled off some really nice shots. The best one was 190 yards away in the rough and managed to land it on the green (we walked off with a birdie on that one).

I am heading out tomorrow after work and will take some pictures. I am hoping a few more rounds will mean I get used to the clubs a bit more. 

We finished 13 over so not exactly unhappy with that for a score (83 total).

On normal days I play the Maxfli Tours and on windy days the Titleist AVX. 
I figured since I got 3 dozen of the Air’s I would give them a shot since they claim a higher ball flight with lower driver spin.

The Air’s feel a little softer and feel like they pop off the club face well. They do give me more height. Which was what I was looking for. I can say that I am quite happy with them so far.

I actually have never played Vice balls before this season other than one or two Pro plus balls I found and a couple Pro Softs. I didn’t like the feel of the Pro plus. The Pro softs I felt I lost a little distance. The Air’s are quite nice.

Thanks, @Tom the Golf Nut.  When I tested the Maxfli Tours earlier this year I thought they were a solid ball but launched a little low for me with all my clubs.  Looking for a higher launching ball so will have to look seriously at the Air.

Check the vice ball thread.  I tested the vice pro air. It’s a solid golf ball

How are the faces holding up? Just wondering if they are marking up quicker than you expected. 

 

Also, it might be a bit too early, but do you think these will replace your regular irons?

Between two driving range sessions and a round of golf I have no marks on the faces at all.

How confident are you with these irons in hand? Additionally, which iron from the set gives you the most confidence?

For me, I am still getting used to the feel of them. I am more confident in using the long irons than I was with my Cobra King F8's. Tonight up the course I am going to be focussing on using the irons to get more used to them. I feel like I need the practice on the course with them.

I have had the irons in my possession the longest of the group. The faces are holding up just fine with no marks or scratches. The forgings are a softer material, so the polished back sides show bag chatter quickly. I went to using iron head covers to help as long as possible. I have much greater confidence in these over the King Tours. 

If I'm standing over the ball the PW, 9, and 8 irons give me the most confidence. Not because the others don't but these are the ones that see the most use. I carry a 5 hybrid and a 7 wood normally. They cover the longer distances that a 5 and 4 iron would for me.  But for testing I have the 5 iron in the bag. We will see who earns the spot after some more time. It's a tight race. The 7 iron is just fine but based on my course it doesn't see a lot of action except for one par 3. 

I do find my thought process is different already. It was just aim for the center of the green and now is how close to the pin can I get.  My margin of error is less if that makes sense. 

Not part of the set and not part of testing is the 50* Gap wedge I ordered separately. This is a flat our performer so far. One round of golf and it proved its worthiness. The full-face scoring lines does take a bit to get used to at first. 

So, you ask if it's too early to say if they are staying in the bag. Let's just say the King Tours are already boxed up for my son. He is ready to come out of his Wilson D200's.

But it takes a while to come out of the honeymoon stage. It took a couple of months to realize the King Tours just weren't a perfect fit. But all signs are very positive and I'm a bit more excited to go play. Don't get me wrong I always enjoy going to play. But there is just this little extra excitement going on. I'm looking forward to finding our potential as a team.

Move to one of the front tee boxes and go irons only for a round.  I've seen several iron testers do that in the past. Forces you to use all of the irons throughout a round.

Long time lurker first time poster. Found this thread after I ordered a set of the VGI01. I figured with a 60 day return policy if I  only hit the 7 iron I couldn't go too wrong.  Glad to see the testers like theirs so far.  I'm currently gaming some PXG game improvement irons and they did their job and I've dropped my handicap about 15 points  since I got them. Now looking for something with a little less outrageous lofts.

 

Looking forward to having these on hand to compare.

I need to try that myself since we don't have any executive / par 3 courses around. Lord knows my iron play needs a ton of work.

Some picture updates of club wear after almost a month of testing. 15 rounds, with a good chunk of them being 9 hole rounds. Also heavier use than normal for that stretch due to hitting more irons off the tee and multiple shots at times when course is slow. Overall faces look great, obviously signs of use but what else do you expect from something repeated slammed into a golf ball and the ground.

Bag chatter example. 8 iron has some dings but 7 iron completely clean. As Tom has pointed as well, does appear to be a softer metal for the body if the clubhead. Mainly seems to be from other clubs going into the back and hitting the bottom.

 

This was my first time giving them a full cleaning and thought worth mentioning. Cleaned up really well, not many spots in them that dirt can get stuck other than the grooves and numbers. The numbers are engraved fairly deep so takes a bit more to clean out but I suspect will keep the paint looking new for a long time.

I placed my order with the specs I usually play and then Iread here about the phone fitting. I have one scheduled for couple hours from now. Hopefully I got close and they won't have to modify the order much. 

 

Any insight on what information I should have ready? I've got a simulator so I have a lot of information available about my swing. Went and did 12 holes last night to get a bit more used to the clubs.

 

I took @Shrek74's advice and played from the forward tees last night. I've never tried this before but it is astounding how a few feet makes a difference. I made sure to use the irons off of the tee every time to force myself to try something new. I found that my 5 iron (previously a club I could never get on with) was amazing off the tee. On the picture above I got the tee shot past the trees on the left and onto the fairway.

 

Second shot was 190 yards from the hole and I completely overshot the green and put the ball in a lake...I guess I should have clubbed down a little

 

Second hole was a nice par three over a lake and a sand trap. 132 yards to the hole so I relied on my "cheat sheet" and grabbed the pitching wedge.  First shot bounced off the bank and went towards the sand trap, the second shot landed on the edge of the green, the third landed on the fringe on the back of the green.

 

 

I think because I had nobody around me I was nice and relaxed. I found that I was swinging steady with a good tempo and hitting the lines I wanted. I didn't bother to putt out the holes as that wasn't what I was there for, but took the time to practice chipping from the rough, from near the green, pitching onto the green from 25, 50, 75 yards, and after finishing the 12th I used the last light of the day to get a feeling for the sand wedge out of the sand trap.  

 

I was worried that the difference in bounce and shape of the sole of the sand wedge between the Vice and my old one would impact getting out of the sand but I found it easier.  The bunker was really high sided so it gave me a good chance to get the ball up into the air and stop short (except for the couple of times I thinned the hell out of the ball and sent it flying but baby steps ).

 

 

So overall a really fun session on the course.  I found it to be more useful from a practice perspective than being on the driving range.

 

Weather permitting I'm going to go back up Thursday to get and other practice session in. I'm hoping my photographer (my lovely fiancée Tabby) is able to come next time to get some action shots.

If you aren't gonna put again try some just off bump and runs with the 8 iron. One thing I've noticed with super game improvements vs player distance irons is the short bumps on the game improvements tend to lay flatter and are a little harder to control distance on. I attributes this mostly to the loft differences. I like my 9 iron in the game improvements I have but find the 8 in my mizuno set to be more contolled.

How does the sound compare to your old ones on each shot? Maybe a video with the phone right next to the ball with every 3rd club and  then the same shot with your old ones for comparison would add to the test. I've watched all the videos I can find on these so far and they sound great but it's deceiving cause they only hit the one brand and the speaker and compression change sound a lot.

Just spoke with Wade on the fitting for these clubs and he was great. Since I'd already ordered we went over some of my numbers and what I had previously been  fitted into. Ended up standard lengths and -.5 on lie. My current shaft is a true temper 115 s300 and I like them a lot but I wanted to go graphite this time so getting the 95 whiz.

Hi guys new here first forum post! 
 

Ordered the VGI02’s last week (7/aug) had contact with vice with a lead time as the website states longer than usual production rates, they were great and replied with a 3-4 week lead time! So excited as these will be my first ‘proper’ set of clubs.

Been playing hand me downs this year, my first year actually on the course, prior I had just been to the driving range, so I think the excitement of my own stamp on the colours etc that vice offers is gunna give me such a boost to go and learn my swing more and enjoy my time on the course with ‘my’ clubs 

can’t wait!

p.s Tom those red VGI01’s with the black shaft and red grips look so damn goo!

Fingers crossed dude!

Lime heads, lime ferrule, white 95g graphite shafts and then offset the colour ever so slightly with the green lamkin grips

if I’m not sold on the grips per the feel I might try to source the matching lime grips we will see!

Side note

Was very tempted to do a multi coloured combo set and have every colour 5-p, 5 in black vgi02, 6 in white vgi02, 7 in pink vgio2, 8 in lime vgi01, 9 in red vgi01, and pitch in light blue and white vgi01 

the fact you can choose all of this and match the grips would be so dope but I want to get good at my game so I thought best to stick with one type of club haha!
