As we approach the weekend, I just wanted to give people a quick update on where we stand.  Currently, we have 15 of the 33 Year End MGC Stapleford Championship registered players who have submitted scores.  That's a little less than we've seen in other MGS special tournaments in the past, but that's not too critical.  We still have the weekend to get those rounds in.

I leave early Monday afternoon for a trip out to Pheonix, Flagstaff and finishing up in Las Vegas where we've got tickets to see The Eagles in the Sphere and Earth, Wind and Fire the next night.  It should be a great time.  We'll be returning the following Monday on the red eye getting back home about 6 pm.

I have two favors to ask.  First, if you can get your scores posted for week 1 before the 9 am cut off time, I'd appreciate it.  That should give me enough time to run all the last scores through the spreadsheet and post the list of who moves forward into week 2.  Second, as soon as I get home, I'll attack the week two scores.  It might not be until later Monday night before I can get all the scores loaded and I can reveal the top 10 moving forward to the final round.

So, if everyone gets their scores in before the established 9 am (Eastern Time) Monday cutoff and the following Monday being a bit more patient on getting the top 10 results for week 3 I would appreciate it!

So good luck everyone.  There have been some super rounds so far and I expect more to come!

Have a great trip and enjoy some down time as you deserve it!

Play like a champion today!

Fought through back and hip pain for a good score for me today.  3 birdies on the front.  Wedges and putter were on point.  Missed lots of fairways but not by much.  Beautiful day!

Played an incredible course and it kicked my butt. Greens were stimping at about a 12 and I could not get it figured out. Lots of three putts.

Even though it probably means I won’t move on to the next round, I highly recommend that folks check out Big Cedar in MIssouri. Buffalo Ridge Springs is an incredible course.

Day 1 of the South Texas Am Tour playoffs. Top 100 in points cut to 72 for tomorrow’s round 2. I played from the blue championship tees in my second flight and I had the scrambliest “no big damage” round imaginable and I think my 83 will be enough to move on to make the cut and play tomorrow.

How did it happen you ask? Well, 0 birdies on the card. Only 5 fairways and 6 GIR total, but NUMEROUS 2-putt bogeys baby!!! That and a sweet chip in for par on 9 (after flubbing my previous chip). Only 1 double!!!

And don’t know if it’ll be enough in this Stableford format, but I think I’ll get another tournament round tomorrow!

Swing was a little shaky and my short game has crumbled since school has started back up. I did manage to string together a long run of pars which helped. Putted the ball well but left a lot of putts a little short that were tracking dead center. IMG_2107.png.9eade71491e09ab3320cb84e3c77b032.pngIMG_2108.png.2992efb27f71f040a69ad245f72f04d4.pngIMG_2109.png.88b777891018439f0d8cd5faa01a1b4e.png

Trying out GolfShot since I had a discount offer ready to go. Not overly impressed yet but will give it the rest of the fall to see if it is good enough to replace ShotScope.

Managed to get out for 18 this afternoon and beat my PB by a shot. Played nice and steady with nothing that particularly stood out. Didn’t realise how well I’d played until I’d finished and downloaded the round onto ShotScope.

I believe you are supposed to post your gross score. Notate which tees, rating and slope. Then upload a picture of your scorecard. The mods will do the rest.

Because we are playing different courses from all over the world and players have handicap indexes that vary by almost 37, we're scoring based on net score.  We have just about everyone's current VCT handicap index from @GolfSpy_BEN.  Each player provides the course, rating and slope for the tees they play.  From that I calculate their course handicap for that round.  I ask for a representation of each score card so I can get the assignment of the calculated handicap strokes on the appropriate holes based on hole handicap/index.

With the course handicap calculated and handicap strokes assigned based on the hole handicap/index, I input par for each hole and a player's gross score for that hole.  The spreadsheet then calculates the players net score to par for each hole and assigns points based on that score.  The scoring is as follows:

Two or more over net par over par=0 points
One stroke over net par=1 point
Make a net par=2 points
One stroke under net par=3 points
Two strokes under net par=4 points
Three strokes under net par=5 points
Four strokes under net par=6 points

The spreadsheet totals the 18 holes to get a total number of points.   Once the scoring deadline has passed, I'll sort everyone's Stapleford total scores and draw the line to see who moves on to week 2.  The cut line plus ties will move forward.

I hope that helps.

Scores can be input to the week 1 thread until 9AM Monday, October 14th.  Right now, I can say it's a tight race to get into week 2.  After the week 1 cut (depends on the total number of actual scores received), the top scores and ties move forward, week 1 scores are erased, and we all start scoring all over again looking for the top 10 (and ties) that will move on to the finals in week 3.

Thank you for all of you who have posted so far.  It's a little premature, but it looks like "and the ties" will certainly come into play with this first cut.   For those who have not posted, you have time.  After the deadline has past, I'll post the scores, cut line and those who move forward.

Best of luck all!!

@Golf2Much, round posted; I know you need the scores posted but I only play on Sundays.

Terrible round; guess I was due after playing some great golf the last few weeks. Struggled off the tee and had to punch out a few times.  Greens were in terrible condition; had a ball bounce about  1 1/2 feet into the air after hitting a bare spot….needless to say it ended up short of the hole.

I believe you are supposed to post your gross score. Notate which tees, rating and slope. Then upload a picture of your scorecard. The mods will do the rest.

Congrats on the great round!

Agree...just thought I'd put it out there...

Thanks....just thought I'd raise the q....

Wish I could have used another round from my annual golf weekend! Only got out for a quick walk. Course was in great shape, greens were surprisingly quick and intentionally didn’t hit a ton of driver on the round. The goal was to hit fairways and greens, and that led to a solid round. A few birdie (and one Eagle) putts I wish I had back but never going to complain about a 4 over, no matter what the course is. IMG_2922.jpeg.7635be46bedb296c23fa1f6b8e5a07d1.jpeg

Apologies and thanks for the nudge - I got out on Friday but played a Scramble comp - had hoped to get out properly yesterday to get a score in but didn't get the time thanks to kids and housework!

Unfortunately I have been impacted by Milton and the storms leading up to it and I have not been able to play this week.  My course has been closed since last Sunday due to excessive rain, tornadoes and Hurricane Milton.  Hope it is not a problem, I hope to play this Wednesday.  The course is scheduled to hopefully open tomorrow.

Day 2 of the South Texas Am Tour Playoffs for this round. I made the cut to 72 and with the goal of making the cut to 54 for next weekend I started fantastically by hitting the green in regulation on the par 5 1st…and then proceeded to FOUR PUTT! But I kept my wits despite missing a 5-footer for par on 2 and birdied 5 (the hardest hole on the course) but hit a drive OB on 7 (by 3 fricking feet) and turned in a 43 front. Had an eagle putt on 10 but settled for the tap in birdie, had some 3 putts on the back (including a 3-footer I left short!!!) but scrounged my way to a 41 on the back and an 84 total.

I think I’ll make the cut and get to play next weekend!

I played the blue tournament tees again. It will be interesting to see if this 84 beats my 83 round in the Stableford scoring!

@Pinetree best of luck in your and your course's clean up.  Living in Key West, I totally understand.  Luckily, we only got brushed with tropical storm winds and rain from Helene and mostly tropical storm winds from Milton.  We dodged a bullet for sure.

We'll have to look at how many players in the field were impacted by both storms and see if moving the scoring deadline makes sense.  The tournament committee will have to make the call before the previously set deadline of 9am.  We'll certainly post something as soon as a decision is made.

In the long haul, being safe and successfully recovering from these two storms are the most important things.  Best of luck!

I need your scorecard with hole by hole score and handicap index to officially establish your Stapleford scoring.  Also, you need to add the rating and slope for the tees you used.  Without that information, I can't run the numbers.
