  1. Well I wasn't here to watch it play out, but Week 3 sure seemed like an interesting one. Hope you guys enjoyed the challenge. Here's how our testers' CCNet scores finished up: @B.Boston - 71 @daviddvm - 68 @edingc - 79.1 @GB13 - 71.3 @Headhammer - 73.4 It was a tightly contested week. Although I know our competitors could do better, they're collectively SPANKING you challengers. Step your game up! I'm not going to finalize the members challenge yet because I want to give @HeathS16 @toehold57 and @yungkory a chance to give me the data I need. You guys have until 6pm EST tomorrow or else you're counted out of this drawing. Updating the chart for weeks 2 and 3. @B.Boston is leading the way with stellar consistency while @daviddvm moves his way up thanks to the win leaving @Headhammer and @GB13 locked for third. @edingc we know you've got the social game, but it's time to start living up to that handicap! Week 4 - Woods and Wedges a.k.a Bash it like Bryson Competitors: Our competitors will be playing only woods and wedges this week and will be scored by the CCNet formula. This will give our guys a chance to try the outer edges of the bag they so badly missed last week. Time to feel what it's like to be Bryson out there bludgeoning golf courses. As usual, the competitors will decide which tees they play to maximize their chance of success. Let's get it on! Fans: I know you guys can do better, so let's see it. To enter this week's drawing, challenge a competitor at the Bryson Bash style. Beat them, and gain 2 additional entries (total possible of 3). This week's drawing will be for a pair of Puma Golf Shoes. One Caveat, you must challenge a different competitor than you challenged last week. Key Definitions: Woods: Any Driver, FW, Hy Wedges: Higher loft than standard PW

  2. It seems like an appropriate time of year for this... I’m taking the kid to school! @GB13, let’s do this!

  3. I'm an unrepentant putter buyer. Over the years, I've been able to fit myself into a style of putter that works well for me, but I can't ever see myself settling on a single putter for the rest of my life. I just find putters too interesting. This year has been a very, very solid putting season for me. (I've gone on a dive into my putting stats starting with this post.) Last winter, I bought an Odyssey Stroke Lab R-Ball Slant Neck. I'm definitely a mallet guy, and with a pull being my most problematic miss, a bit of toe hang helps slow the rotation of the face. I also love the R-Ball alignment setup: not only does it help me set up on the proper line, but I use it during the stroke as well. Often, my image during my stroke is to imagine the rear ball passing through the "gate" of the alignment lines. That encourages the "held off" feel I want when I'm putting (I don't release the head). So why would I buy another putter? [insert maniacal laughter, because let's admit it, we're all a bit nuts here] I have one objection to this putter: the sound is awful. High-pitching tingy noises annoy me in golf clubs. I know this is a nice putter, but that sound feels cheap to me. I can deal with it, but I certainly don't prefer it. So the question: can I get the benefits of the R-Ball without the obnoxious noise? My go to putter last year was an Odyssey EXO Indianapolis Slant. We had some good times together, especially after I built a DIY Stroke Lab shaft for it with a Gravity Grip. It's a nice putter. Might see the course again sometime. The only thing it lacks is the alignment features of the R-Ball. But what about this? This is the EXO Seven Mini Slant. I've had a Seven before and loved it; it's a head shape I already know I get along with. The Seven Mini, though, has that bar across the back. Anyone else seeing that the void space in the putter head creates an effect very similar to the R-Ball? I thought so too. So now it was time to find a deal. The logical starting place was Callaway Pre-owned. Having learned a lesson before, I not only checked CPO's own website, but also their listings on eBay and Amazon. Turns out that right now, the Amazon listing was the cheapest, at $133. That's OK, but we can probably beat that, right? So I scoured eBay for other sellers (nada). I bounced around to the various discount retailers (RBG, Dallas, Global, Hurricane). Nothing so far. Then I hit 2nd Swing. BOOM! Their highest condition rating (9.5; mint) was going for $115. Adding tax, free shipping, we're up in the low $120s. One more step: search for coupon codes. I found a $20 off $100 code that worked. Final price: $100.69 shipped. [I'm so glad this forum exists. Where else can you tell a story like this and find anyone who cares?]

  4. No. Based on the definitions, your set is fine. No to this as well. The breakup is only for guys that can’t play a continuous 18. For example, play the front on Tuesday and the back on Friday. That counts. PREFERABLY you’re just submitting an 18 hole round. Play as many as you want, just submit the best. PS if you guys aren’t sure which score on which course slope/rating is best for the CCNet, just shoot it my way and I’ll run it through the formula for you. Sorry. Some things get missed in the shuffle of vacations. HEY EVERYONE, I HAVE AN ANNOUNCEMENT: HAMMER WON WEEK 2 - FIR/GIR BURGERS

  6. RU seeing the same pattern I'm seeing? Also, if you ever want to know which line at checkout will be the slowest, or which slot machine will eat your coinage the fastest... Apparently my "maximus rotation" strategy is flawed . But this week could be the week. #TeamCalvesLikePhil finds that 6th gear and out runs the field. Come on Edin... time for your best Collin Morikawa impression .

  9. This feels biased against the west coast! I just got home and cleaned up after filling in for @yungkory against @B.Boston! I came in as a reliever, and let’s just say this... Here’s the scorecard. Here’s the bag. HC 13.1 Played the whites, 70.5/124. I think that works out to a net 70, though I could be wrong. Credit where credit is due...I spend a lot of time with these two lovelies!

  10. @daviddvm - the results are in! My handicap according to GHIN before the round was 13.0. My round was played at Beacon Hill GC in Commerce Township, MI. I played from the blue tees which measure 6324yds. Course rating is 69.3 and slope is 132. Since I don't carry a hybrid, my longest club is my 5i. I exclusively used it off the tee where I would normally have used my driver. This really had me playing from different parts of the course, which was a good thing. I honestly didn't have to think on the tee box at all. I felt incredibly confident that I wouldn't miss in dangerous areas, where my driver brings more danger into play. Where the challenge really challenges you is missing the wedges from your bag. I spend the majority of my practice time with my 52, 56, and 60 wedges working on various shots from 90yds and in. Having irons only really put a premium on hitting the green with your approach shot, or missing in a place where you could bump and run along the fairway entrance to the green, rather than needing to carry any rough. I have no idea how to stop a bump and run with any of my irons. I was really pleased with my round today. Having double bogey's on two par 5's really hurt. The first one came from a bad chip attempt with my 7i, where I normally would have used my 60* The other came from hitting a ball into the water trying to reach the green in regulation after hitting a less than stellar tee shot, and a not great second shot. It's really difficult to be upset with an 83 considering I don't believe I broke 90 in any of the challenges last season. My golf game is certainly in a better place this season than last, and it is really nice to confirm what I said last year. These F9's are legit! Hopefully with the creative accounting that goes on to calculate our MGS totals, I can defeat @daviddvm. But for know, he can rest easy knowing he clipped me on Gross score.

    How'd you play?

We managed 16 today when the pro in our group said, “I see yellow popping up on my app - lets get somewhere safe.” The somewhere was my buddy’s house off the 15th tee with a bottle of Glenlevidt 18 in the bar. As we drive our carts into his garage the rain started and lightning was jumping. I had 68 for 16 holes. Key was that I had the straight D7’s in play. Can’t wait for those forged bad boys. They have a touch more loft. According to my fitter more loft is good for me. I hit lots of approach shots long today - that was cool - it include a 5 iron that went 180 with no helping wind. 13. It's on! It's going to be an interesting challenge. There are a few holes where I'm going to need to decide whether I want a wedge off the tee or bomb the ball near some trees and hope for a good bounce. I'm excited to see the scores for this one!

  14. Ok this is going to be a lot harder than all irons, going with driver, 3 wood, hybrid, 52, 56, 60 and putter to DESTROY @edingc!!

    How'd you play?

Fairly decent weekend of golf for me. Driver played a little better after I adjusted it from 10.5 to 9.5. Saturday I managed to hit 5 iron shots catching the heel in the turf sending the ball left. I had adjusted the lie angle to 2º flat a couple of years ago, but I'm thinking that maybe they moved a little back to standard. Going to have them checked this week. Short game was pretty good and helped me have a DOUBLE BOGEY FREE weekend. So that's nice. On Saturday my wife and I played with 2 guys; one a pretty good player and the other has been playing a month. On the 1st tee I said, "Uh oh!! Great guys and while the golf newbie hit a lot of bad shots, he hit a few good ones. The best part was he played fast. With as many shots as he took getting to the greens, we still had to wait on the group in front of us on nearly every hole. I managed a 42/40 82; a round that had a lot of distractions. On Sunday my wife and I played with a couple we usually play with a lot, but not in the last month or so. A little better round for me at 41/37 for 78. I managed only one birdie on hole #14, which was matched by my wife. She also had two other birdies... I'm jealous.

On my way back from MI golf trip. Saw all my buddies, ate & drank too much, and played 90 holes in five days. A couple scramble rounds, but did card an 89 at Arcadia Bluffs South Course, which included five three putts and a four putt!! Can you say “FAST”?!? Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy

  20. #TeamCobraONE After week 3, I don't mean to gloat but I'm feeling like.... But this week may prove to be a little more difficult seeing how I lose the majority of my new found advantage in the ONE length irons. But I do feel I have a good strategy and I'm hoping week 4 doesn't end up like this

I had a fun three days of golf with some friends in central Illinois. Friday was Prairie Vista in Bloomington - pretty open course with some tough greens. Shot 82. Saturday was iron-only day at University of Illinois Orange Course. Perhaps a bad idea for that course at 6600+ yards from the most forward men's tees, but ended up with what felt like a good 88. Today was a muni in Jacksonville, IL. I sucked. Couldn't hit an iron, ended up with a 92 on a pretty easy course.

  41. Another round in the books, another pretty good day by my standards for fairways hit with the TR20: Not a good day with the flatstick, but that's for another thread. The TR20 continues to turn heads with the sound, and the distance. My regular playing partners have noticed I'm getting them out there farther than I have been. Again, several long ones in the 280-290 range. I got on a launch monitor yesterday to validate the heavy-weight-forward setting too, and I'll post that soon. The adjustment unlocked some distance for me to say the least...

  43. Since I need a new putter grip I will probably end up going to a golf store. since there is a lot of talk about wedges with the zip core review and the recent NPG episode on when to replace your wedges, I may need to get a new wedge. Thinking SM7 or RTX 4 to save a bit of money.

  46. PostScript. I think the game of golf is in a great place right now. i'm not going to proclaim Morikawa, Wolff, Hovalnd, Scheffler, JT, Bryson, Rahm or any of the other young guys are going to win 5 Majors. But I do think we are going to see all of them regularly on the leader boards of the majors for several years to come. It should provide a lot more thrilling majors and probably constant change at the No. 1 spot in the world rankings.

    How'd you play?

Truth! Our opening hole is a par 5 that is beyond my length to reach in two any more. I hit my 3rd shot to 4 feet below the cup, leaving me an slight uphill putt with no break for the bird. I missed the putt. Although I wasn't mentally distraught over the miss, I never did play well the rest of the round. Yesterday, I sunk my birdie putt and won a net skin on the hole. Today, my handicap was one stroke lower than it was yesterday and I wouldn't have gotten a stroke there...although the birdie would have been nice to have, regardless, and maybe the rest of my round would have gone better! (That's my story and I'm sticking to it!)

I chip and run often with my specialty wedges, I just don't know how to get the dang ball to stop the same way with my irons. It is a serious skill that takes lots of practice and can come in handy in certain situations.

It's a totally different game without those speciality wedges but its a skill we should all still practice. Many a time the little chip and run would be the best option but we let ego get in the way
