    9 years and 5,000 posts

It's taken 9 years but I now present to you my 5,000th post. It's slow compared to some of the have a chats here, but I got there. Hopefully I can get the next 5,000 before 2029. Thanks to all of you for making this, as far as I'm concerned, the BEST golf forum on the interwebs.

  2. 2020 continues to suck in every way possible. I had to put my big boy down last evening. I had him for 12 years... from 5 weeks old. He saw me through a bad divorce. He was my best buddy. I can't stop crying.

  4. you are like a squirrel on crack my friend. by my count you’re in like 4 different threads discussing equipment changes (driver, putter grip, putter, iron heads, iron shafts) while also trying out a few different instructors to fix some flaws in your swing. that is A LOT of moving parts when trying to hit a ball with a stick is hard enough as it is. i know equipment testing is something a lot of people on here like, and more power to everyone with the time and desire to go through that, but i wonder if getting one thing figured out at a time might help the rest settle in to place? just my two cents man. no harm meant by it at all. like my old man says...that and $5 will get you a cup of coffee. (or maybe a latte at the roastery in Cap Hill)

    How'd you play?

No. I would have not handled it any different. In my opinion, your friend knew your club and should have told the other two in advance to be prepared to wear something decent. I feel that all golfers should be prepared to dress appropriately while playing golf. It should not matter if it's a private, semi-private or public course. Kudos to you and maybe they learned a lesson in golf etiquette.

    How'd you play?

I wear golf clothes no matter where I play, never even considered golfing in jeans... Costco has it all for very cheap. And I wear my "good stuff" when I know Im going to a nice club. not repairing ball marks or replacing divots... I learned from an old goat years ago to respect the grass. Because you will probably land in a divot for every one you don't fix. Ive turned into the guy who uses both sand fill jugs each side filling the endless divots. Probably since I play the same track 90% of the time. You would think that other people would see all the repaired areas, and think about fixing their own... but sadly, I find many new ones every day... But oddly, most seem to fix the greens thank goodness...

  7. Working from home now that Michigan is back on modified COVID restrictions. Has the perk of being able to get outside to do protocols at lunchtime. I started the fourth protocol per the recommendation of the SuperSpeed team in this thread. Very happy to see my speeds have stayed steady despite some layoff time. Also, I continue to pass the turf tear test...

  8. I enjoy having a few beers on the course. I feel like it makes me play a bit better because it relaxes me and just kind of puts me in my happy place. Beer for me always just puts me in a good place, theres just a fine line between having a good time and getting wasted though.

    How'd you play?

Well, I played the front side fairly well. A poorly executed hole led to a double on the front for a 38. Then, an alien entered my body for the backside. I don't know if I lost focus or what, but I struggled big time shooting 43 on the back for an 81.

    The Masters*

Exactly my point. Love him or hate him, Tiger is a very big draw for casual golf viewers and since DJ had such a big lead heading into sunday, it almost made it a foregone conclusion he would pull it out unless something catastrophic happened...you know, like scoring a 10 on a hole... Funny enough, I recall watching sports center and even just evening news and all the mentions were "yeah, DJ won, set a record, BUT DID YOU SEE THIS 10 TIGER SHOT ON A SINGLE HOLE!!! Let's watch the reply!"

    The Masters*

Let’s face it though. The majority of sports watchers are going to pick football over golf most of the time. I bet If Tiger Woods was about to win jacket 6... those numbers would look a little different.

  18. I don't know them all, but there are actually rules on what can be submitted. All clubs submitted must be available to purchase without any upcharges. There have been manufacturers eliminated from testing because the clubs they submitted where not available for consumers to purchase. MGS does their best to fit the testers to the clubs that have been provided. In most cases the OEMs provide the clubs, but there are instances where MGS purchases clubs for the testing; this generally happens when a high profile OEM doesn't submit clubs. As @Golfspy_CG2 indicated, most people don't get fit; they walk into a shop hit a few clubs and decide which one they want. From talking with golfers on the course most have very little knowledge about clubs. As an example I was asked by someone on my golf team what kind of shaft I had in my driver because he previously had one and he didn't hit it well. I responded that is was the new KBS TD Wood shaft and it was an aftermarket shaft. His response was that he only wanted to know if it was stiff or regular.

  19. We had a total of no one, nada, not another soul on the course yesterday at Coyote Wash. We played 18 holes in 2:26! I did manage to bounce a drive into a fairway mower. He had his earpods in, felt the whack on his thigh, and the ball bounce ahead. That was the only person we saw until hitting the parking lot.

  22. Today is 1 week in the books. Did a little more in depth review on the tracking sheet (in my signature and 1st post). Overall was good definitely had cravings but nothing worse then when i stopped dipping. intiial weight drop was surprising wasn’t expecting a very big initial drop. Maintained after than and have not been under 200 in several years. Was never at any point “starving” and I use that term loosely, also my overall energy seemed to have an increase. I also found pains and swelling to go down as well (knees and hands). going to keep on keeping on and hopefully see some more losses and maybe a waste shrink we shall see. oh and I had a surgery last Thursday so the NA for swing speed is because I won’t be swinging probably until next week some time. Tonight had some chickpea pasta with vegan meatballs, broccoli and marinara. Was actually pretty damn good

  25. Tiger has committed to playing in the PNC Championship on Dec. 19-20 with his son, Charlie. With no Hero World Challenge this year, this will be his last event of 2020. The event is 36-hole scramble featuring 20 players who've either won a major championship or the Players Championship. Bernhard Langer and his son, Jason, are the defending champions. Some other notables in the field include Justin Thomas and his father, Matt Kuchar and his son, Gary Player and his grandson, Annika Sorenstam and her father, and many others. 30. Spent some time w TSI2 driver this week. With ranges Mats Only and a unusual amount of “Seasonal Residents” making it a bit difficult. Played Tuesday & Wednesday and didn’t play for score but getting to know the Driver. I’m not having the phenomenal results some Testers are getting. I kept thinking distance was short but actually same as G410 maybe slightly longer. I’m not getting the height (carry) I like but run out is very long. Not a good trade off but it’s still early in the Honeymoon and playing again tomorrow morning and a range north of me is threatening to open up using grass Monday. Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy

  31. Release in a normal year would have been August/September time frame. When they had to make the decision in the spring to push back the release, A January launch and big push at the PGA Show in made the most sense, as there really isn't a ton of golf purchasing going on in November or December in most of the country. Christmas sales for Golf Clubs isn't really a thing. Trust me I've given Santa enough hints on that, and end up with no brown boxes under the tree every year As for price, if you go to the Wilson Raw bal thread and read a lot of the comments in there on the Wilson Tour Model ball being priced up in the TP5 and Callaway range, Barbs gives some pretty good reasoning on why it makes since for the challenger brands to price near the premium brands when the quality of the product calls for it. And these irons are without a doubt of the same quality as he current lines from the "Big 4"

  37. The idea of this is particularly fascinating, and when the "Titleist Natural" or whatever comes out, people will be tripping over themselves to get it. Kirkland Signature Unpainted Balls? Suburban Mayhem. Wilson is solid. I will have to give these a try, and it seems like something potentially overlooked. Ball technology now is different from an era where finishing might have been more important in the overall process, so it stands to reason the more pronounced dimples and lack of paint pooling could make a difference.

  38. ... As a 21.5 index, you need the best fitting combo you can play. Of course this is true for everyone regardless of index but high index players may not know their swing well enough and might be using equipment ill fit for their games. I made the mistake of installing some Steelfiber i95 stiff shafts in my irons and they were just too stout for my swing. Several years later after talking to Aerotech I installed a set of i95 regular flex and the results are excellent. As a shaft ho I didn't mind all that much but I would have saved money along with some time and the aggravation of shafting, removing shafts, boxing and selling them had I been fit to begin with.

  41. it’s amazing how fast things change when you remove the s*** from your diet. it’s usually the subtle changes first, followed by the more obvious ones. firsts it’s the energy, mood, skin, your pants fitting a little better...then after a few weeks you're down a few pounds and look visibly better.

I did not do it as much this year but I do enjoy it and they needed it! My wife always asks how I can just sit there for an hour and do it lol....because it’s golf.... Oh they’re about to be very happy! So I got the SM7s from @B.Boston same style grip MCC4 but I have not regrouped yet they are all only a year of use so far. When I regrip I’ll match them. yea we just decided to not go to my parents. Wife is in the school and my son goes beteeen houses and I am not going a 2 week time period of not seeing him if we tested positive because we did a meal. Couple of family members not direct will be going so is what it is. Sounds like a vaccine is almost ready...I won’t be getting it but everyone else can lol

  47. Obviously spin is important, but remember the target audience. If you're consistently flying the ball to the green and wanting it to stop, you're probably going to move up to something that is either weaker lofted and generates more spin, or you probably swing the club hard enough to launch the ball higher and rely on the peak height and descent angle to help stop the ball. Flippers, who probably make up a good number of these golfers, are going to present a ton of loft at impact anyway. My Cobra SpeedZones don't spin the ball a lot either, but by combating it with a spinny ball and enough swing speed/launch angle, I can't recall having too many issues getting the ball to stop this year. That being said, I do play most of my rounds on a course with old and soft greens. I hate generalizing because I know several in this thread play these types of irons and have games that are better than your typically 110+ player who is more concerned about the quantity of beer drank than quantity of strokes during a round. But when I'm thinking of the target audience who is going to their local golf store and buying off the rack, I'm thinking about my father-in-law who needs every ounce of distance he can get, and is likely running the ball onto the green unless he's within chipping distance. If it comes in from the air it's going to have so much left-to-right slice on it the ball isn't going to stop anyway.

I wouldn't overthink this or let it bother you (it would me as well). Some people just don't care and unfortunately you don't have to look too far to see that. Just yesterday my wife and I were in a Walmart and a gal came in wearing a skimpy bathing suit. Yes she did have a mask - and it was possibly larger than her bathing suit. Some people just don't get it. Lesson learned - don't invite your friend back.
