Wrapped up work early, and spent some time hitting on my net. Focused on ball position in my setup, as well as gripping/setting up with the shaft more straight. Fighting my usual grip which produces too much shaft lean. Practiced with 52°, 9i, 7i, and 3w. Getting more consistent strikes with better loft, worked on making a mental checklist when stepping up to the ball. Will try to apply that when I play tomorrow.

Also spent some time measuring out my space and prepping for the mlm2pro to arrive. Measured out the necessary 8ft from my target and found the back side of the mat was quite uneven. After a quick run to Lowe’s, I applied another layer of pea gravel and some paver sand to level it out. Not perfect, but much improved (white tee is the 8ft mark).

Nothing too crazy here, just rolled some putts indoors to keep the tempo sharp while working my way from 2' to 6' with consistently good results. Confidence is pretty high within this distance and truth be told it's almost becoming automatic even when on an actual green. Really starting to wish that I had longer mat though. 6' is great but I'd really like to get more practice in with something in the 9-10' range.

Ever have a practice where something just clicked? I've been working on the MLM, watching my swing, studying data. Grip pressure has always been an issue. I think it's been keeping my wrists rigid, hindering the ability to really create any lag and release the club.

Relaxed the hands, and focused on a new feeling of snapping a towel. YouTube videos suck but that's where I got this one. Sorry Tiger.

Gained about 6-8 mph on my club head speed and about 10-18 yards per club, not so much driver. Feels like a huge obstacle to overcome. Less technique and more a feeling.

Last week I was hitting my 7 into 140y greens. This today.

f6e78b14109485287d7d685b0d7cad96.jpg

And my 3 wood just doesn't do this!

5543ca392b4744438defc8c532bd65bd.jpg

It's something that I can repeat too. The additional speed that is.

Was going to rest the hands today; glad I didn't. And glad this community exists so I can share this W today.

Can you link that video that you were talking about? I’ve been working creating lag, and launch angle but I kinda struggling with it. I’ve been following Scratch 2 Scratch guy and learning from their drills but don’t know if I know where to get good drills for lag and launch angle.

Oh man I couldn't tell you it was just a short that got me thinking. And I'm not close to being good enough to give advice on what I'm doing is just a feeling... Kind of like snapping your left foot with a wet dish towel? Our brains can do it naturally before we put rules in the way.

Tough to describe. And my brain is in weekend mode currently...

Hope Jerome gets there before the novelty of his channel wears out. I've enjoyed watching some of the coaches explain different aspects of the game. He must be spending a ton of cash!

... Just a word of warning going down this path. Lag is a by product of a good swing. It isn't something you should attempt to achieve as doing so almost always causes more problems than solutions.

I was able to hit the range today and was able to work on a few different things with the Rapsodo. Wind really picked up after I arrived and made it a bit tricky to stay consistent but it did make for a more realistic game like challenge when I went into combine mode. First time using this and definitely see a lot of this over the winter.

Well, I didn't get any putting practice in over the weekend. The family was super busy. But that is ok. Started the week with another SuperSpeed training session and it was a great session! I found some additional speed with my actual driver by lifting my lead (right) heal. That little move gave me a new PR with my actual driver at 123mph. Which is pretty sweet. I need to make time in my schedule to get to the local indoor sim so I can make sure my mechanics aren't going haywire but consistently being north of 120 is new territory for me. Here's a quick video of the last half dozen swing speeds.

Today was a good day for practice in the garage. I didn’t hit anything very well, but slowly feel like my swing is becoming more fluent. I did work on putting and controlling speed. Hopefully that will transfer on to the course because that is definitely where I struggle on the track.

After a couple weeks off had another golf lesson tonight. Since we last met I’ve been working a lot on grip and setup, trying to be more neutral and minimize shaft lean. This really seems to be paying off, and I’m seeing better and more consistent numbers (especially with the shorter clubs). However, I have been over exaggerating the in-to-out path, pushing everything 7°+ out to the right. So we focused on that, starting with takeaway from the ball being less inside and finishing down the line. Started seeing the ball straighten out by the end of the lesson, now to do it a million more times!

At first, I had figured that I would be using the "How did you play" forum. Yesterday was a beautiful late fall day for mid MI. Lots of sun, temps in the lower 50's. Only set back was the wind. Gusts back up to 35 again, but I was ready to battle. What I wasn't ready for is the course had not done anything to try and remove leaves for the past 5 days. It appears they laid off most of their grounds staff for the year. I lost 3 balls in the first 2 holes. All in the fairway! To avoid frustrations from taking over I decided to walk a few more holes to about 100 yards and practice pitching to the green with a couple of balls. So my round turned into a mini practice session. Hopefully tomorrow at a different course.

With the earlier sunsets post-DST, I went to PGATSS and hit for an hour in the Sim.  I tested driver shafts, and confirmed I am in the correct one.  Then I hit some 7 irons for distance and accuracy.  I am much more consistent hitting off grass but it was still good work and I am grateful it is available nearby.

One 160 yard 7 iron shot stood out.  This was close!

Working at getting better ... and very slowly getting there.

Had a live lesson with jayson today. First time hitting golf balls in a month. Mostly foam balls or just slow recording work until this. Backswing is looking really good. New task is focusing on the torque of my trail hand to stop it from torquing in the wrong direction. Just a different way to feel the move and it works well for me. Swing video is like at 30% speed

Hit balls for the first time in almost two weeks today and it was not good. Everything was short and/or offline, the only thing I was hitting well was my 3-wood. I was smoking it off the mat, carrying 220 very consistently.

This past week in the match play tournament one part of my game was glaringly off. Pitching and chipping out of thick deep rough (summer and winter grasses here in AZ) was completely frustrating. In the middle of my home course back nine is a fine practice area. A large slightly contoured green, a decent sand trap, grass cut to fairway length and an expanse of rough that travels away from the green in a 60 degree arc and at its deepest is about 150 yards away.  I measured off 40 yards and started dumping sleeves of 20 balls into the deep grass and played every one of them from where they lie.

I drove off in my cart feeling better, not great, shoot not even good about the results. But I did hit the green better and that is a good start.

Practice is done for us, we might get one more round in on Monday and that looks like it unless we get unusually warm weather like last winter. I'll be in Arizona for the month of March hopefully get a few rounds in there. Hope everyone has a safe and happy Thanksgiving.

Had the chance to attend a preview session at GolfTRK today, and I was really impressed. It's a new indoor golf facility that opened up near my house. The concept is a paid membership to have access 3 Trackman bays and an interactive PuttView practice green, open 6am-midnight everyday.

The preview session was great, got to demo a lot of the different features/modes of Trackman, and the showstopper for me was the interactive PuttView green. Look at this thing! You can have it overlay as much or as little information as you want, and there's different modes/games. In the second set of pictures the challenge was to utilize your speed control to roll past your last putt, but just barely trying to make as many putts in an ascending ladder.

I also got to play a full round (Sea Island Seaside, 49/46 with autoputt), and I hit the top end of my bag to check my gapping which produced some interesting results... Very inconsistent with Driver and 3w, 3-iron overperforming, and 7-wood being most consistent. The impact data was showing I almost exclusively hit off the heel of my woods.

Continued practicing staying more centered over the ball on full swings (trying to reduce lateral hip movement). I have been working on this for a few weeks now and am making progress. There are many different ways to achieve the goal and each seems to have it's own pluses and minuses.

Back to GolfTRK today, been working on getting gapping numbers for my bag. Have some numbers for the top end of my bag (Driver-3i), so today I started from the bottom working on 60°-PW (50° is my AW).

Used the driving range mode today, and set pins roughly where I thought I'd be hitting. Clubs seem to be gapping nicely, and was able to keep most my shots within the 15HCP averages from the pin. Managed to get all 10 of the 60° within the tour average 7.5yds. 🔥 Total distances shown in pics.

After that, I played a virtual round, Lofoten Links, very challenging, lost count of the number of rehits off the tee on this one. Then wrapped up on the PuttView, first the speed challenge, and then just had it pick random holes with start line and ideal lines shown, had a streak of 4 made putts (3-8ft).

Got off work early yesterday for Thanksgiving, so I went to the range and got to enjoy an amazing fall afternoon. I didn’t have to rush to beat the sun going down, so I really focused on keeping my club head outside hands in my takeaway. I started slow with my PW and just did a rehearsal then a half swing, and just slowly worked it into 3/4 swing. Then the same with my 8 iron. After half a large bucket I started doing full swing 8, and I was really loving my ball flight. Naturally, I got greedy and jumped into 4 iron and driver. Needless to say these did not go as well, but I was not missing any left. I was push cutting them way right, but this is definitely working in the direction I want to go. In time I think I will get back to power fades. I then ended with 20 balls going back into half swings with my PW to get that same feeling.

Course is closed today for Thanksgiving, so I got out to the putting green after coffee and throwing the bird on the smoker and worked on chipping and putting.  Really focusing on positioning and stroke/speed for putts.

I have been putting a strong focus on 3-6ft putts to prevent 3 putting.

Might consider working on lags to get everything inside of a 3 foot radius if you are having to make lots of 3-6 footers to avoid a 3 putt.

For sure.  The challenge with my course is our green conditions are rough and speeds change from hole to hole and day to day.  So one day they role fast and the next are half the speed.

We are long overdue for renovating the greens but it has to pass thru the city this next year.

Are they consistent?  meaning are the slow greens always slow and the fast greens always fast?  If so,  that comes down to the adjustment preround or over the first couple of holes.  No different than playing a different course day to day.
