ThatKyle
Thankfully I don't hear that too often unless I get paired up with someone of the boomer generation. I play at least 50% of my round solo so get match up with random groups a lot and I've noticed there's a significantly higher number of millennial and younger aged golfers playing lefty. In fact, of my 10 or so friends I play with most often half of us are lefty. I think the ability to shop for clubs and learn the game via the internet has really killed off most of the push for lefties to switch to righties. It amazes me when I get paired up with a group at a course get up to the first tee box and there is always that one guy who says “o you're swinging from the wrong sideâ€, I don't get upset but I think to myself does he see me as a unicorn do people not often play with lefties MDGolfHacker and Rickp 2 Quote Lefty in the Mitten State currently carrying: TM '17 M2 9.5 w/ Fujikura Pro XLR8 · Exotics EX10 15° w/ GD Tour AD Stiff · F7 HY @ 20° · Forged Tec Black 5i-AW w/ Project X LZ 6.0 · MD2 56°+ 60° · Method B2-01 · Kirkland Signature · Clicgear 2.0 · Course photo albums: Boyne Highlands + Bay Harbor (Michigan) | Wailea Gold & Emerald (Maui) | Forest Dunes (Michigan)
txgolfjunkie
My brother-in-law played baseball lefty but does just about everything else righty. He was such a head case on the golf course about it that he had two sets of clubs in his locker...a LH and a RH set. It was ridiculous. There were a couple of times he would play poorly on the front nine and then switch sets for the back nine. It was hilarious. Now we plays left-handed...but putts right-handed. I used to play with a fellow lefty but I stopped answering his calls/texts when he felt the need to hit my equipment without asking. We'd be walking up to the 1st tee and I would notice he had my 3-wood in his hand. He just thought since we were lefties that we were some sort of blood-brothers. I wouldn't have minded so much if he had any sort of skill set...but man, he was good for putting a nice ball mark way out on the toe of a fairway wood or sky a driver here or there. I figured it was easier to just ignore his communication then straight up whooping his arse on the golf course. Rickp
So, are there specific Manufacturers that some of you like to go with specifically because they provide a decent amount of equipment for the Lefty? I have found that Cally, Mizuno and Cobra Golf do a pretty good job of making LH equipment available, so I try to look in that direction first, because the more they sell, the better chance we have for it to continue. Rickp
Put my name in the left handed rooster. I am confined to using my left hand for just about everything. My right hand is there just to sometimes support my left hand when needed. TheWahoo
I was going to go mizuno until I found out they don't favor lefties, so I went titleist for irons at least Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy A few years ago, in one of the golf publications, I saw that Mizuno offered some clubs labelled as extreme game improvement type clubs. So I contacted Mizuno through e-mail to explore purchasing them. They responded that the clubs were not available in a left handed model. They further explained that the lack of demand for them made changing the manufacturing process to produce them too costly for such lack of demand. They then suggested a configuration of their other available clubs that I might like. While I was disappointed that the clubs I wanted were not available, I genuinely appreciated their response and, more importantly, their honesty. In a sense, they just stated the unfortunate facts of life. I understand the costs of doing business and its not their fault that I was born with an apparent affliction. Kenny B
OK, I know I'm not a lefty. Sorry. But I would be willing to bet that nearly all right-handed people that wanted to pick up the game of golf would be better off learning the swing with left-handed clubs. Probably same for lefties learning with right handed clubs. Here's my point from my own learning perspective. People start playing golf using clubs for their dominant hand... naturally. Why is that a problem? Well, putting the dominant side of your body on your trail side tends to promote an over-the-top move; the dominant side just wants to... well, dominate! If the dominant side is pulling down from the top of the backswing, it's much easier to get the club on plane. I have been working this past week on feeling the left side pull rather than my right side trying to push, and I can immediately feel a difference in my swing with noticeable improvement in distance. Now, control is a little issue, but I think that will come with more reps. I have made some swings left handed, and I feel a much better downswing. If I weren't so dang old, I might consider switching to left-handed clubs!! I'm not saying that it happens in all cases. I'm sure that very well-coordinated people have a natural ability to make the golf swing happen as it's supposed to happen. I wonder what Charles Barkley's swing would look like of he took lessons with left-handed clubs?? Couldn't be any worse, could it?
