HardcoreLooper
Resurrecting this because I just got an email that Caddie 2.0 is available on Android now. Maybe they pushed some other android updates to 360 as well. Screen Shot 2018-07-16 at 12.21.40 PM.png bardle - I'll use the Android this Saturday when I play and report back! Very excited to see what they've done. Ah the old "oh no I'm playing so bad" then boom 90 percent fairways trick eh 😎😉 Oh, he's totally sandbagging on expectations. Don't believe the hype. I'm only going to get one round in this week, and it's on a course I've never seen before. Stud's going to need to be my seeing-eye dog for the day. Hey, don't cry for me, Argentina. Played in a scramble for work today. Since it's woods and hybrids week, I'll report that: The three wood is still a rocket launcher. I played with my boss's boss (who I know fairly well and like, he's a good guy), and several Walmarts were built between his drives and mine (with a three wood. A decent configuration with the driver still escapes me. I was getting good numbers on Trackman with an 11.5* setting, but on the course, no further than the three wood. I took it down to 10.5*, but still nothing to write home about. And much harder to control. I am tempted to take the three wood down to 13.5* and see how I do with that. The three hybrid is an unmitigated hook machine. The face really seems to sit closed at address for me. I feel like I need to play it a little farther back in my stance, push my hands ahead a bit and make a cut swing to hit it straight. When I do, then I can hit a useful shot with it, but it's a lot to remember. It's not point-and-shoot for me by any stretch. Popular Post MDGolfHacker
Since this week is about the driver and fairway woods, I thought I'd talk about the driver today. Here's a link to more photos I took of the driver and fairway woods. As usual, make sure your volume is turned on... F8 Woods Review: The Cobra F8 Driver, Cobra F8 3 wood and the Cobra F8 5 wood. These are the driver and fairway wood weapons I choose to combat the rising tide of bogey, double bogey or worse on those long par 4 and par 5's or on those not so stellar drives, lol. So how has it turned out? More of a mixed bag for me right now. Sometimes when you go to a demo day, you just click with what you are hitting. With the driver, this was the case. It was easy to hit, went in the general direction I hit it (kind of important in this game, ha ha ha…) and looked like it gave me a bit more distance than my current driver. With the fairway woods, not so much. I chalked it up to having hit a bunch of balls with the driver and went ahead with the 3W/5W setup. I've never been a long baller so having fairway woods in the bag would alleviate some of the distance gaps in my bag, or so I thought. In this two-day post, I'm going to first review the driver… COBRA F8 DRIVER: So, what does Cobra bring to the table with the F8? According to Cobra, the F8: Brings the first CNC milled driver face to the market Has 360° Aero Technology Smartest driver via Arccos Fastest most precise driver Oversized for maximum forgiveness What does that all mean, well let's start with aesthetics. It has a classical shape but modern look to it. It is an oversized driver and at some angles, does look like it is, but overall, it hides its size well. The carbon fiber crown really looks cool and doesn't detract during address. It has polymer crown trips at the face edge which is said to help improve aerodynamics, and decrease weight (90% lighter than titanium). The one thing that really stands out about the driver is the CNC milling done on the face. This lets Cobra get a more precise yield for face thickness, allowing the F8 to have a thinner, lighter and faster conforming face resulting in faster ball speeds on a face that is 10% lighter. The multi directional CNC Milling pattern also frames the ball in the driver's sweet spot. Cobra also used lightweight 8-1-1 titanium for the body and face. The weight saved permitted Cobra to move the center of gravity lower for improved launch and ball speed. The variable thickness face also allowed for increased distance on off center hits. Cobra also designed and patented a dual roll design on the face which featured more of a curve on the top half of the face and flatter bottom half. This is said to optimize launch and spin for shots hit high and low on the face. Additionally, the CNC milling allowed Cobra to design a more accurate bulge radius to compensate for gear effect and deliver more accuracy on shots hit on the heel and toe. Cobra utilized Computational Fluid Dynamics to streamline the shape of the F8 driver. This reduced the drag the driver generated which in theory gave you more club head speed and more distance off the tee. The last bit of technology is the adjustable weights on the bottom back and heel of the club that can promote higher ball flights or lower launch with draw bias and the MyFly loft adjustments that can maximize distance and spin up to 400 RPM's. So, does all this technology work? I can't say that I am swinging the driver faster due to the aero technology built into the head. I can't say that I am seeing some of the crazy distance gains the other testers are seeing. In fact, according to Arccos, when I compared the baseline from my previous driver, I have gained an average of only 1 yard. Yep, all this technology and I have a 1-yard gain. What I can say is that I have hit some of my longest drives with the F8 when I actually put a good swing on it and I have hit more fairways than my previous driver, an average increase of 13%. I can say that I don't hit the middle of the face as often as I'd like, but the dual bulge does seem to work as I don't lose as much distance as previous drivers I've owned and I can also say that the driver feels easier to swing, most likely due to a better pairing of my swing with a better fitting shaft. I was asked a few weeks ago what would it take to have this equipment replace my current gamers. For the driver, it needs to go further, plain and simple but with more control. Has the F8 driver earned a permanent spot in my bag? Ask me in a few weeks as my testing is still inconclusive. Fairway woods review to come tomorrow so stay tuned, same Cobra-time, same Cobra-channel 😊 MDGolfHacker Nunfa0, HardcoreLooper, russtopherb and 8 others 11 Quote What's In This Lefty's Bag? Distance is nice and all, but If I had to choose between higher FH and 10-15 more yards, I know which one I'd take.. It really needs to be a combination of both. What that combination is, is going to be player dependent. I'm an average driver of the ball, but having to hit a fairway wood or hybrid in to a par 4 isn't my most favorite thing to do at the moment. So I might forego a bit of accuracy to get me another 15 yards closer to the green. Of course ask me that after I've played a course where the rough is up and my answer will most likely be different I'm also not making light of the fact that I'm hitting 50% of the fairways at the moment either. MDGolfHacker You seem to hit the ball a good ways based on your intro stats. When you got fitted did they try you at a lower loft? Just curious...I gained some yards by dropping the loft on my F7, I dont think thats typical and I'm sure you have tried it, just curious what the difference was in terms of length and accuracy with lower a lower loft. I don't see many guys that average 230 and 45% FH with a 10.5 driver loft....but then again I don't play with that many people. Popular Post MDGolfHacker
Part II of my review of the Cobra F8 Woods, this time talking about the Fairway Woods. You can read about and see pictures of the driver and fairway woods in my initial post: https://forum.mygolfspy.com/topic/24440-official-cobraconnect-challenge-2018-week-2-of-8/?p=440698 Let's talk about the Cobra F8 Fairway woods. In my bag, I opted to go with the 3W and 5W which was a slight departure from my previous bag that had a 3W and hybrid combination. I was hoping with the 3W/5W setup, I would be able to eke out a bit more distance, from all lies and rough because of the dual rail system. I ended up pairing the Cobra Fairway woods with the Even flow Blue 75g shaft in stiff to keep a consistent feel in all the Cobra woods. What Cobra says about its F8 Fairway woods: Features the Baffler Dual Rail System which provides more versatility and forgiveness from every lie Designed for 5 to 25 handicappers with moderate to higher swing speeds seeking maximum distance and forgiveness Has 360° Aero Technology Smartest fairway wood via Arccos My initial impression of the fairway woods was exactly the same as the driver. It has a classic look to it with a bit of modern thrown in. The carbon fiber crown looks fantastic and reduces some of the glare at address during those sunny days. The Cobra logo on the top front of the crown is a great way to line up the center of the club face at address. Cobra uses the exact same Aero technology as the driver - Lightweight polymer aero trips on the crown and titanium trips on the sole that optimize aerodynamic performance while maintaining a low CG for faster clubhead speeds. Does it work? I don't know if it added anymore to my swing speed to be honest. Cobra opted not to have any movable weights on the fairway woods, instead opting to have a fixed weight position low and back resulting in a high ball flight that is extremely forgiving. They also designed the fairway woods with a low face profile the further lowers the center of gravity for improved launch and increased ball speed with reduce spin. The big selling point for Cobra is the Baffler Rail system which is designed to get through questionable lies and rough a little easier. Cobra designed the rail system to be progressive – shallower or steeper rails depending on the loft and angle of attack for improved versatility and consistent contact from any lie. For example, the 3w/4w features shallower rails to accommodate sweeping attack angles while the 5w/6w have more of a medium rail height to prevent digging and retain more clubhead speed and the 7w/8w has the tallest rails compared to the other two with increased bounce that optimizes turn interaction for steeper attack angles through tough lines and bunker shots. I won't talk about the Arccos system in this portion of the review as I'll go in depth more on that later but all I have to say is truth hurts sometimes. There are times you walk up and hit a club during a demo day and think, this could go in my bag and there are times when you want to like the club and that it has potential, but you get it anyway and regret it. The Cobra Fairway woods for me, is definitely the second thought initially. I didn't hit it well during the fitting and I really can't say in the beginning of the tests that I had confidence in using the fairway woods for what I intended – attacking greens on long second shot approaches on ar 4's and second or long approaches on par 5's. This isn't to say it is the fairway wood's fault. Part of the issue is my swing just isn't stable right now to truly take advantage of the fairway wood's potential to help me score. I went through a recent round where every time I pulled the fairway wood out, I was toeing all the shots. More likely than not, I would hit worm burners or flat out top the shot. But, when I did make solid contact with 3W or 5W, they truly were shots to be proud of. Cobra succeeded with the fairway woods as I truly had some long towering shots from them. Going back to the question, what would it take to get these a permanent spot in my bag? Well, as I stated yesterday, I need a few more reps under my belt with them, but if the smile I had last night during league play while hitting them is any indication, then they might, just might be in the bag for a while. fozcycle
https://youtu.be/iJwmN83xxXM So what is different about the Cobra F8's? The Cobra King F8 Driver features COBRA's thinnest and hottest face, it delivers the perfect blend of speed and forgiveness with precision face milling, aero and adjustable weight technology. The Cobra King F8 Fairways feature the industry's only Baffler Dual Rail system. The Cobra King F8 Hybrids are fixed lofts this year. I selected 19* & 25*.
The Cobra King F8's are for 5 to 25 handicap golfers with moderate to higher swing speeds. Its oversized shape makes it ideal for those seeking a more forgiving profile and improved distance on mis-hits. The Fairway Woods provide maximum distance and forgiveness from every lie.
These clubs were engineered to deliver more forgiveness to fit a wide variety of playing abilities. The King F8 is COBRA's most technologically advanced driver featuring the industry's first ever forged CNC milled Titanium face with E9 Technology. I went to my local Golf Galaxy (North Tampa, FL) and told them about the #CobraCONNECT Challenge and they were more than happy to provide their monitors and bays so I could try both F8 & F8+ Driver heads along with several different shafts. The F8+ was consistently slicing, so I tried the F8 which smoothed out the flight. The Mitsubishi Tensei shaft is the first new line from Mitsubishi since the introduction of the Kuro Kage. Where most shafts use 3 or 4 different materials, Tensei uses 11. It provides enhanced stability and feel in an ultra-lightweight shaft. Ideal for medium swing speeds seeking higher launching trajectories with reduced spin for improved dispersion. I tried the Aldila Rogue, ALdila NV 2KXV and a Matrix Red Tie. With my Swing Speed at 85 - 95 mph the Tensei CK Blue was Best for me. I ordered it for the F6 Driver, 3-4 and 5-6 Fairways. I put a different shaft in the Hybrids as I tend to swing them just like my irons. I chose the Recoil 460 ES after trying the Matrix Red Tie. I seemed to hit them much straighter. The stock shaft offered is the Aldila Rogue Pro (75 grams). The Recoil 460 ES (64 grams) is for the golfer seeking higher initial trajectory and maximum distance. Recoil Technology provides greater consistency, distance and trajectory control allowing for more efficient energy transfer to the ball yielding increased velocity and greater distance. The ES stands for Enhanced Stability, providing a stiffer mid and butt that produces better shot control. It also has a softer tip to improve feel and trajectory. MDGolfHacker
You seem to hit the ball a good ways based on your intro stats. Lol, I used to be a good ball striker, now it's kind of hit or miss with me. One week i might be hitting the ball well and the next, head scratching to figure out what went wrong. Went to the range last night and worked on the woods. Hit a large bucket and also made adjustments to the driver and fairway woods as well as tried the draw setting on the shaft. I hit some great woods shots but I'm still lacking the consistency need to score. Half of the bucket I was pushing the woods left of the target line by 15 yards consistently. Checked alignment, shoulder line, etc and all seemed ok. Hit a few irons too and the longer irons seemed to have the same issue while the short irons were dead on. I'll see if I can get more range time in the next few days and get the kinks worked out. I do have to say, the rails on the fairway woods do work. I was hitting off mats and the rails helped move through the surface. I had a couple shots trying a few different things with the swing and even the mats grabbed the heel and shut the face down, I can imagine what it would do in rough MDGolfHacker russtopherb and bardle 2 Quote What's In This Lefty's Bag?
