NFL thread! What are you thinking?

The Patriots scored 2.32 points per drive, including the playoffs during the 2018 season. The Chiefs led the league at 3.25 points per drive. Odds are a touchdown will not be scored. In my opinion you gotta stop them. For what it’s worth I was born and raised a Chiefs fan growing up in KC. Just happen to live in New England now.

To be clear I’m in no way calling this a stupid rule - I remain convinced that my suggestion or some variation of it would be an improvement over the current rule. If you play a full season and then a full game and nothing is settled in the playoffs it only seems reasonable that both teams have a crack at the ball.

In regards to Chisag’s comment on the refs - agreed - I actually think they do a reasonable job - there’s just too much happening.

A booth official overseeing the game and no more time wasting challenges would be an improvement. There will still be missed calls but it will be better.

BTW I still haven’t seen the negative to the OT rule change that I’m proposing.

I’m on a mission to shoot my age - lifetime lowest round is 66 and I’m currently 67.

The problem with having someone in the booth overseeing the game and deciding on reviews is the fact that there will always be controversy. You can't have everything be reviewable in today's hurried society so there will always be people that think they got screwed on a call.

As far as overtime goes, I don't think it is bad the way it is. It is certainly better than it was before. If you lose the coin flip and want to win, play some defense and stop the other team. I would hate for defense to become obsolete like it has in some college football games.

Surely it would be discouraging if the defense intercepts a pass for a TD in overtime thinking that they've won the game and then have to come back out again and stop the team a second time....

Too bad defense is no longer allowed in the NFL. The NFL is becoming unwatchable.

Some of the changes I like, this year had some of the highest scoring games, and they were absolutely amazing entertainment. That KC/Rams MNF game? Whew.

With that said, I wouldn't want to be a DB/Safety in today's league. All this defenseless receiver stuff is great in terms of the health of the players, and I get that they're humans, but the selective/subjective enforcement is aggravating. Yes, we need to protect them, but you need to do it on every play, for every player. I can't believe that with today's technology we can't have live oversight of the officiating. If you're unsure you should be able to call the penalty for review, and give the booth 1 minute to decide. How much could that slow the game down?

I like it!

Have an on field and off field crew for every game and off field only gets involved with a blatant missed call ( ahem, Rams/Saints)

With the amount of cameras and money in the league it's a no brainer.

There were some serious questionable calls in the KC game against the DBs....and when they should have obviously called it in the other game they swallowed the whistle...SMH

I actually thought the low scoring made it a lot more interesting, but that's me.

Now, the half time show on the other hand... it was like ordering oatmeal at a once-a-year visit to a high end restaurant.

The Patriots were not bigger, stronger, and faster than great opponents like the Chiefs and the Rams.

You can't be that when you're picking so late in the draft season after season.

But they can game plan for size, strength, and speed.

How do they game plan for pedigree?

I'm not a Patriots fan in any form or fashion but dam, you have to respect what Brady and Belichick have accomplished.  To be that dominant for that length of time ranks right up there with the 50's, 60's and early 70's Celtics.

What's amazing, the rest of the league have had 20 years to catch up to them and have fallen further behind!  The frequency at which they reach the Super Bowl has increased dramatically.

  • 9 Super Bowls in 18 years
  • 3 consecutive (winning 2 of those)
  • 4 of the last 5
  • 5 of the last 8

I owned Gurley, Michel, Edelman and Gronk in my fantasy football. They all took a steaming dump on me during the first playoff game and I scored my lowest output of the entire year.

i think gurley got hurt in the KC game on the horse collar tackle, he hasn’t been worth a pile of beans since.

This was one of the most boring Super Bowls to watch that I can remember. The patriots executed their game plan just like they wanted (which was expected), the Rams looked like they completely went away from whatever got them there in the first place, their offense was pathetic, they looked like they didn’t want to take any chances. Horrible play calling. Both defenses played okay, they both made plays when they needed. Don let care for either team really, but it’s hard to take away from what the pats have done for the last 2 decades.
