Maltenator
Came across this video by Rick Shiels about this SK7 Standalone putter. It is a 400 gram putter with a graphite shaft and a foam yes foam grip. It can be stood up behind the ball by itself. Then you step back to look at alignment. It does have a milled face and is retailed for $170. What's your thoughts fellas? I find it quite interesting. Don't know if it's legal, don't see why it wouldn't be to USGA rules. https://www.s7kgolf.com/get/s7k-putter/ Length: 34.5” Loft: 3.0˚ Lie: 72˚ Moment of Inertia (MOI): 7,000 g/cm2 Grip: Midsize, EVA foam Total Weight: 400g Shaft + grip weight: 50g Head Material: 431 stainless steel Shaft: Graphite Balance: 40° “toe hang” Quote C130 USA bag Driver - 0811XF - Tensei Ck Orange - 65 G Stiff 3 Wood - M6 - Tensei CK Orange - 65 G Stiff 19* & 22* Hybrids - M6 - Tensei CK Orange - 82 G Stiff Irons & Wedges- 0211 5-PW, GW, SW, LW 45*. 50*, 54*, 60* - True Temper Elevate Tour 117 G Stiff All wrapped in Standard Gray/Red Dri-Tacs Putter - - Mustang - 33" - 5.0 FATSO Ball - TP5 Tracked with V2 I'm a righty from Mechanicsville, VA (Richmond Area)
cnosil
See also: bloodline putters Yes, they are legal. I didn’t like them when I tested during most wanted putter testing. Felt like I would break the shaft if I actually gamed. If you don’t like a line on the ball then this putter probably wouldn’t be you best choice since the line will most likely look different at setup than behind unless you have altered your setup to fix any parallax error. azstu324, Rickp, downlowkey and 2 others 5 Quote Driver: G400 Max 9* w/ KBS Tour Driven Fairway: TS3 15* w/Project X Hzardous Smoke Hybrids: 915H 21* w/KBS Tour Graphite Hybrid Prototype 915H 24* w/KBS Tour Graphite Hybrid Prototype Irons: TR20V 6-11 w/Vizard TR20-85 Graphite Wedge: 54/12D, 60/8M w/:Accra iWedge 90 Graphite Putter: Sacks Parente MC 3 Stripe Backup Putters: Milled Collection RSX 2, mFGP2, Futura 5W, TM-180 Member: MGS Hitsquad since 2017
bluesmandan76
It’s not a new concept. Every few years one of these will hit the market. Recently Bridgestone had one out... about 4 years ago. And I remember infomercials for one when I was a kid... maybe around 1990? A guy in the group my dad played with got one. PlaidJacket
Been watching the GC this morning and the S7K commercial has been running a lot. It's not a putter I'd buy. However I did enjoy watching Rick Shields demo it. Besides the wind issue - you still have to make a stroke and have the correct read-line and feel/speed/face angle/etc. And... that's the problem with a lot of putting problems guys have. And for those that put a line on their ball you now have two lines to align. (putter and ball) I think there would be too much fidgeting with this putter. So... who has bought and played one of these things? Come on - I know you're out there. Admit it. azstu324
So my dad bought one of these a a few months back. As usual, before consulting with me, he just threw $175 at a guy for another piece of golf wizardry. We went out one morning and he got up to the green, put the putter on the ground standing up and stepped away to line up his put. (Just like the commercial). I think he played out a scenario in his head where I would be amazed and awe struck. I'd seen these before so I asked him if that magic putter also came with a magic golf ball that rolls right to the hole.. we laughed.. he 3 putted.. I digress.. I took a few swipes and was very underwhelmed. Especially when he told me what it set him back. It just felt clicky, cheap, and not very well balanced or stable. In order to make the putter stand up, they use a really cheap foam grip (one that you wouldn't find on any high-end putter), and a full graphite shaft to take as much weight out of the top 3/4 as possible. IMO, you really are just buying a very expensive party trick. I use a Cleveland HB #11 and for nearly half the price it's 10 times the putter. the more I practice, the luckier I seem to get.. fixyurdivot
Put me squarely in the gimmick product column. So you align the putter where you think it should be, leave it "standing" in place while you walk behind and verify, then re-address the putter and stance w/o moving it from that perfect line-up... really? Next up is a putter with a momentary button laser line generator... yea, don't even think about it, I have already submitted paperwork to the USPTO . Both wait/waited until their turn to begin the lining up process and always it takes at least 2 tries to get the line up satisfactory to their liking. Then when they miss the putt they blame the alignment everytime, lol. B Den
Hi Guys. I read the first 20 or so comments on the Sk7 and I was really amused at the quick wit and the full on criticism of the club and the people they've seen using it . I know many golfers are blessed with a great sense of golf humor that's been honed and fine tuned over endless rounds of busting balls but I was really looking to hear from someone who has actually played with the club. It's OK if you bust my chops over this request but at least end up with an actual review of the club from a real user. On the other hand if you just want to give me a real users opinion without the ball busting that's ok too. Thanks.. RITZ
I do basically the same thing as the S7K putter self standing putter and it probably looks weird to some guys however at first but my playing partners are all used to me doing it. I plumb bob then kind of I align my Odyssey Marksman blade putter behind the ball, keep my finger/hand on the end of the the putter then step right behind the ball lining up the putter to my intended line. Helps me putt much better as I just don't see the line as well at address. Give it a try as my putter and yours too is way better than S7K in quality as i then get the same benefits. Slow play,..NOT as without taking practice strokes it is equal to or less time than my friends putting routines. tony@CIC

Nevin
My wife bought one of these and I decided to give it a try yesterday. The putter is pretty crappy itself and I don't like the feel at all, but the concept is not a gimmick. It took no more time to line it up that any other putter. The idea that it would slow up play is a canard. I ended up with one of my better putting days in quite a while. I actually made some birdie putts outside of 5 feet for a change. I'm giving this putter back to my wife but have decided to order a Bloodline mallet which is the same concept but clearly is of higher quality and better design. Whether I can get used to the different feel is another matter. Rickp 1 Quote Callaway Epic Flash Sub Zero 9 degree Fubuki stiff shaft.
