I need to replace a 3 wood and had seen these. Has anyone played them?  Any feedback?  Currently playing Ping g400.

I have the KE4 4 wood and love it. It was the right gapping for me phasing away from a 3 &5w but giving me plenty of forgiveness and pop.

Ok. Good to know. Being a lefty they only have the STw2 and it comes in 3w and 5w.

Stuck in the lefty predicament. I haven't tried the STw2 but I have yet to disappointed in any of Maltby products.

Biggest think is knowing what you need for a shaft and go from their.

The Stw2 are ok, but older and not as good. As a lefty, you have tons of options. Like for $100 this new Sim Ti 3w would be a great buy since you have the shaft

https://www.ebay.com/itm/166340747847

And there lots of other options

TM m5 (all titanium)

https://www.ebay.com/itm/134730520271

https://www.ebay.com/itm/134711639805

Cobra ltdx

https://www.ebay.com/itm/354960587793

Ping

https://www.ebay.com/itm/186051468983

Callaway, titelist, PXG and so on. Just search left hand 3 wood head only. Great deals can be had for lefties but that Sim Ti and m5 is a bomber and theres some slightly used for under 100.

If youre looking for even less expensive theyre out there

Finally finished My Ts1 set. I really like these clubs. I wanted a clean minimal look, so I removed the paint from the emblems for a silver and black all around theme. Went with high quality black and silver ferrules instead of my typical BBF and went with the new Sonar black out grip. Shafts are DG 120 but I am interested in trying Accra Isteel series or the Vista Graphite shafts I was fit for. These are my fav of the Ke4 max, TS3 and older Maltby stuff I had. While the max are little more forgiving, the proportions of this club is perfect to my eye and and feel and consistency is on point. So 6-gw is TS1 and then the 23 degree Srixon ZX takes over, gapping is solid.

I love these clubs. Play the same heads and have found them incredibly forgiving and soft feeling. I like what you did with the logos and now, doggone it…. I feel compelled to do the same. How did you polish out the paint? Just curious what you used and how long it took.

Enjoy them!

Thanks. I have a paint stripper that I carefully put a few drops till it fills that logo circle and perimeter and wait 30 mins-hour, then brush with a nylon part of a club brush. Sometimes I have to do a 2nd app of paint stripper and then it comes off clean and easy. Easiest when heads are off because you can lay them on the table end and they remain flat

I did the same when I had my TS-1's. It's amazing how this simple aesthetic touch-up completely changes the look. @ZoonORamaI did similar to @KOGwith some acetone and a 3M scouring pad.

I'm almost certain that the guys at Maltby have seen some of the pics of the "clean" logo and that inspired the new lineup.

Had this head collecting dust and an extra shaft so I decided to let Dr. Frankenstein out today.. stuffed about 6g of Polly fill in the head (this also really improves the sound) and put a hybrid length high launching driver shaft in my KE4 Tour TC 3 wood.

I call this the "3-brid".. or maybe the "tribrid"?

I realized it won't get the same distance as a standard 3 wood.. but if I can turn this into a fairway and green finder, 230-250 yds is really all I need. The shots below are off the deck. I'd say add 10+yds off the tee. I'll take some tee shots later today or tomorrow to compare. Not completely sure how practical this will be but experimenting sure is fun!

Awesome experiment and from the dispersion data it looks pretty successful so far!  I have a never used Adams 3w head in the shop that was included with some club making equipment I picked up and I may try the same thing.

  • 2 weeks later...

I went full ape and ordered a "pak" of TS4s even though the company allows people to test only one club before buying. I've played 2003 (one year older than me) Mizuno blades in the past, but thay had to leave the bag simply because they were too old and beat up. I'm a decent ball striker (I can go +4 at home course) even though my official handicap is 8-12 (varies by course and tees), so I'm not at all concerned about my ability to hit these blades well. I just hope they feel as good as people say. For the past year I've been using TEE C722s that I got for cheap, but they just dont feel as good as my former forged Mizuno's. So I'll be posting updates in this topic, and when they arrive I'll maybe try to get some LM numbers at my local super store.

What Mizunos did you play? I got a set of MP33s that are always begging for time on the course.
Excited to hear your feedback of the TS4s I'm really wanting to blend a set or replace my full set but worth winter approaching and my course time limited this year its been a tough sell.

I played the MP33s as well (I think the seller said 2003). Unfortunately I don't currently have them for comparison, but I will compare the TS4s to my brother's spare Mizuno MX-23 set (2004 so a similar year and forged as well).

No, I have not played a Maltby product before, but don't ever want to knock a budget brand until I try it.

You won't ever think of the TS4 as a budget club head again. It gives up nothing in looks or performance to any other club.

I'm sitting here looking at the MPF numbers for the TE+ and the TS3 and I'm just...that's unreal.  838 for the TE+ and 849 for the TS3.  Those are CRAZY. I have the 6/9 irons of the TS3, that I bought as a little experiment, but didn't love the shafts (the Score TT's - not BAD, but heavier than I'm used to and it was noticeable) , but REALLY tempted to blend a set of TS3's with the TE's, since there'd be no need to bend anything (as I may have to do if blending with the TS4's).  I far (FAR) prefer the look of the TS4's, but that ease-of-use factor with the TS3/TE+ is hard to ignore.

So here's my question: what does 100MPF points actually translate to? My ball striking with my irons has been pretty great with the Caleys I have in the bag, and they're roughly the same size as the TS3's, so there's not really anything to "get used to" size-wise, but would doing something along the lines of TS3 in 5, 6, 7, and TS4 in 8, 9, PW (perhaps bent one weak to match up with the 32 degree 7-iron of the TS3), then segueing into my 48-degree Indi wedge - do you think I'd miss that 100 MPF points from the TE+ (or staying straight in the TS3s, which is obviously an option, too)?

This is all just spitballing, obviously, but figured I'd ask (again) if anyone had any strong thoughts on the differences (or potential differences) between the 3's and 4's.

So I believe Britt & Maltby have mentioned many times most golfers won't notice a difference of 100MPF points. That being said I would think Head design and technology would differentiate the TS3 TS4 and TE+

  • TE+ - Slightly wider sole, "Classic" Design, available DBM finish
  • TS3 - Progressive Offset, Tungsten toe weight, Highest MPF
  • TS4 - 1-2* Weaker Lofts, CNC Milling (Sole, leading edge, face), Minimal progressive offset, Tungsten toe weight

I have only hit the TS3 and TE (V3?) but I think the preference in head designs and your ball flight will be what should drive most of your decision.

@GolfSpy SAM I often game a combo set of TS3 (5-8)/TS4 (9,PW)/TS1 (GW).  My handicap is about the same as yours.  While I cannot tell you with any precision what 100 MPF points really mean, I can tell you, anecdotally, that I do not find the TS4 any more difficult to hit than the TS3.  In fact, I absolutely love the TS4, find it easy to hit, and incredibly accurate.  My iron striking has really improved this summer, but I surprised myself last weekend hitting 5/5 greens on the carry with the 9 or PW in hand from 125-145 yards.  (That had not been my typical experience before the TS4s went into the bag - not at that percentage of success.)  I fawned over the 145 yard 9-iron carry shot; the TS4 has that extra gear when you are between clubs (which I was) and need to go after it with the higher lofted club to nail a tight green.

Even when I game my Miura CB-57s, I kick out the 9 & PW to game the TS4 blades.

Thinking a TS4 8-iron is also in my future.

TLDR:  I don't think you will miss the 100 MPF points and recommend the TS4.

Working at getting better ... and very slowly getting there.

There is definitely a TE+ V4 DBM test club in my future. I just wonder if I want to go all in and get it with a Modus shaft in it or be cheap and just drop a FST 115 or 125 shaft in it. Hmmmmmm....

You won't ever think of the TS4 as a budget club head again. It gives up nothing in looks or performance to any other club.

I hope I find that to be the case, like I did for other budget brands like Wilson, Cobra, and Adams. But as far as true DTC brands go I've not had any exceptional experiences (I've only tested balls). True DTC ball brands, like Vise and Cut for example, have all had noticeable sacrifices in performance.

I'll be posting updates in this topic

UPDATE: GolfWorks called to let me know that they were able to drop the gap wedge and refund me the price of one club (I left an order note requesting this), and also that the builders have started on the order.

I am leaning towards doing the FST 125 in my test 7 iron. I am curious about that shaft but am a little worried that since there is only one shaft length (43") that all the shafts are cut from, that by the time I get down to the PW/GW lengths the shaft weight is only going to be 103ish grams. That is a decent drop from my KBS Tour 120s which are more of a constant weight through the set.

I used the FST 125 for a tester with TS1 7i head.  I needed them to be 1/2" longer and hard stepped them to try and lower the flight.  Worked out perfect for me because all I had to do was tip trim and no butt trim.  Shaft does not feel light at all.  On the range if feels and performs great.  low to mid ball flight that is very consistent.

And comparing them to the KBS you would only see a 5-6ish gram difference from what you currently are playing.

Yes, the FST shafts (esp the 90s) test half a flex to almost a full flex softer than typical. For example, DG S300 would be comparable to FST 125 X-stiff

To adjust weight, consider simple iron tip weighting.

Also check out Apollo Stepless shafts. A bit more stout and as good as most steel shafts.

I went ahead and ordered a 7i with the FST 125 shaft in it in the TE+ V4 DBM. Will share results and thoughts once I get it. The only shafts I have to compare it to are Nippon Modus 120S, Dynamic Gold R300 and KBS Tour 120S....though those are all in different club heads and slightly different lofts.

In any event, excited to see how the turf interaction is with the DBM and if it "feels" different. The FST shaft is the real wildcard and there is a world where the lighter weight totally throws off my timing. We will see. If it does, I may pull the FST shaft and drop in a R300 shaft that I have laying around but I am getting ahead of myself here. Will post pictures and all that once I get it.
